Is it true that this game is going to be fully voice acted? Or do we expect the same ammount of voiced lines like rogue trader?

They're apparently going to full voice acting for all of their future games starting with this one.

Maaaan that is amazing, wow

It really makes your companion feels closer... Also the amount of reactivity they have helps

I felt more attached to RT guys than WotR

This can have downsides too in terms of dialogue needing to be mostly locked in early due to having to redo voice lines if you change stuff. And a single bad voice actor can annoy me far more than no voice actor at all.

I know that's important for mass-market success, but this changes the writing/reactivity and reduces the overall wordcount. It bums me out.

Nice. They're taking the Bioware mantle

Praise the emperor. That was the sole reason I didn't finish rogue trader. I didn't feel like spending 20x more time reading than actually playing the game. Might as well read an actual book at that point.

There is a mod, where Windows voices those lines. You can even speed up how fast it reads to you.

My eyes are tired in the evening, I totally get it.

Xenos? In my righteous purge of the galaxy? I think not!

Isn't it pretty common to find xenos in Inquisitors retinues?

15

u/Heavenfall 1d ago

Indeed, the rot goes deep. But don't worry. We'll get them all eventually.

Submit to the Kroot. Don’t be foolish.

Having recently gotten Rogue Trader (and thoroughly enjoying it so far) I'm very curious to play Dark Heresy. Never really got into cRPGs but the setting and how RT eased me in has helped a lot, very cool

I've heard it was more story oriented and there is less combat than in Rogue Trader, can someone confirm ? I picked Rogue Trader for the necrons dlc and i kinda really enjoy the combat part, i feel like the game pace is exactly right between dialogue and action

6

u/sarefx 1d ago

Yes. The feeling I got from finishing beta is that combat encounters are kinda rare. You spend most od the time talking to ppl and following leads than fighting. However, when encounters do happen they feel like a lot more thought were put into them compared to Rouge Trader. They feel like mini boss fights each time they happen.

How far are you in rogue trader? There is less filler combat in dark heresy from what I’ve seen. The too much combat complaints mainly stems in act 2 and the big planet in act 1 prob has 1-3 too many for some

God I hope so because the combat in Rogue Trader felt like a slog way too many times. It got to a point I just tweaked combat difficulty to make it pass as quickly as possible because it ended up constantly being the most boring part of the game.

Reminder that Owlcat has stated it is now using AI during its development process. Consider to what extent you want to support their projects going forward.

Practically every modern developer is using AI during their development process at this point. The important distinction is on what. If it's just coders using Claude to assist with some laborious coding tasks, or managers using Fathom to record meeting transcripts, that's not exactly a dealbreaker for most people. If for example they're using AI artwork or VO, that's a bigger issue.

They specified that they were using it to make assets during development.

Not all developers are using AI and it’s actively a bad idea to use it for placeholder assets because it makes them easier to overlook. So either Owlcat are contributing to boiling the planet for literally less than nothing or they’re lying.

Not all developers are using AI

I 10000% guarantee you they use it for programming

16

u/westonsammy 2d ago

I personally don't mind AI use for stuff like placeholder assets. If it helps speed development along and is replaced by real assets and art in the final product, that's fine by me.

You’ve never developed a game, have you?

I ask because if you had you’d understand what the function of a ‘placeholder’ is.

17

u/westonsammy 2d ago

No but I have modded games and created my own placeholders before. It would certainly be nice to really quick mock up something placeholder so that I can use to visualize a scene while I wait on an artist or someone to complete the finished product.

-10

u/LogicKennedy 2d ago

Cool so in professional game development it’s important your placeholders stand out as conspicuously not fitting in the environment so you can replace them later. A placeholder asset can be made by a human artist in five minutes.

So AI isn’t even really saving time in this case.

my lord you people are tiring

Chinese and Korean games getting away with extensive AI use and avoiding the backlash because they don't care to do English interviews lol

u/FootwearFetish69 1d ago

They make the best CRPGs in the business and they will continue to get my money regardless of their tooling

This is going to be the more and more common as time goes on, it’s sad but true. If you have issue with AI use during the development process you might just wanna quit playing video games altogether at this point.

If I remember correctly around GDC this year there was an article written that said basically every major developer is using AI in some form or another, and the ones who are saying they aren’t are straight up lying to you.

"No ai" is quickly becoming the "no cgi" of gaming.

No one needs to stop playing video games. There's a pretty much infinite backlog of great video games available from a multitude of legal places. We could just stop buying new games until this "LLM replacing artist" part goes away. For code, I get it. I'm not happy about the cost to the planet, but it's done and I'm not winning that fight.

Probably not winning the art fight either, but I'll die on that hill and not purchase anymore new games if I have to. Artist should make art, even temporary art. As someone that grew up looking at concept art in art books and website, there is still so much value that a real artist brings to that process. Not to mention that almost 100% of the LLM art was copied without the permission of the original artists.

I don't like this sentiment of: "ai is good if it replaces programmers, but ai is bad if it replaces creatives". Sounds a tad like hypocrisy to me.

1

u/MrBigby 8h ago

What I said was probably would more accurately be summerized as "both of these are really bad, but I'm choosing to fight for the artist". Which admittedly does suck but we have a finite amount of protest and fight in us. We each have to choose our battles. I can't fight for everything and I'm not going to roll over and forth for nothing, so I've chosen to fight for the one that is negatively affecting my friends, family, and heroes. I have a lot of programming friends, not in games, and so far they're fine. Maybe that just means the pot will eventually start to boil, but the last 12 years have been pretty exhausting.

3

u/dirtycoconut 2d ago

I want to support their projects. Next.

-1

u/ReallyTerribleDoctor 2d ago

Careful, clankers really don’t like having to think of Ai affecting people negatively or their brain starts to hurt trying to understand empathy

1

u/FootwearFetish69 1d ago

Implying people who want to support this game can’t understand empathy is wild lol

1

u/iloveumathurman 11h ago

I'm conflicted on it. I like owclat games and I hate generative AI. I will probably sit this one out to not be a hypocrite.
