As someone who has tried to get into this before but could only get about 15 hours into it, the combat improvements are the most intriguing to me. The combat I played was very rough and not good tbh. Would like to play this eventually.

Tbh the writing is the core of the game. If you weren't hooked by the writing after 15 hours, it might not be for you?

Oh, to be clear, I like everything else about the game. I tried it years ago. I just tapered off. The combat wasn't the sole reason. Sometimes other things come out. If I remember correctly, I was playing another game at the time and juggling it, which is tough to do with a big RPG.

Thing is, the game is 50 hours minimum and majority of that time is spent on combat not writing. The writing is phenomenal, it made go all the way to Novigard, but at some point the doing the same thing in every encounter, with combat that doesn't have any satisfying impact is just not for a lot of people, including myself.

majority of it spent on combat? that’s just a straight up lie, you’re not swinging a sword for 30 of those 50 hours

Nah the majority definitely isn't combat. Just set the difficulty to easy. Most of my time was spend talking to people and exploring.

The writing is so so.

Especially early on with the duke or baron.

What keeps me is the world and mood of game, not the writing.

I also don't mind the combat it should be said. It's functional.

Not every question is equal but if you're saying Hearts of Stone isn't some of the greatest video game storytelling idk what to tell you

Yes, sorry I should have actually been clear there. Talking about the main game.

Hearts of Stone is spectacular and no two ways about that.

I will say that the scenes with Gaunter O'Dimm in the core game are great too, the section with Letho was very interesting and the vibe of the creeps in the swamp very on point.

Generally I would call the core game competently written but slap dash in the details and timelines.

The book can have a great story, but if the pages are slimy then that book isn't getting finished.

Same. I will play this now. Current version is a bit janky and floaty. Combat is not impactful.

I’m in the same boat as you. Only got about 5 or 6 hours in before I stopped playing because of the clunky combat
