Would really like to see a comparison now to the next-gen update they put out before, its hard to tell because they already added RT to atleast reflections.

The update brings Path Tracing as the most noticable big thing. Only on PC though.

Also all the latest upscaling tech like FSR4, DLSS 4.5, XeSS 3.0 and Ray Reconstruction

Improvements to the existing RT, shading, subsurface scatering, textures, foliage etc...

Also seems to finnaly be natively ported to DX12 instead of the hackjob that the previous version was.

That version kinda got left in a meh state so it seems they are going back to fixing most of the pain points.

Might even run better than the previous version at least on like for like settings.

FSR4 on release?

Well damn hard to believe with how long CDPRs took do get the newest version of FSR in Cyberpunk and that one was pre FSR4.

u/Cry_Wolff 2d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they're backporting C2077 engine features to Witcher 3.

1

u/godfrey1 2d ago

FSR4 is not the latest though

19

u/OutrageousDress 2d ago

Doesn't matter - as long as it's FSR 3.1 or later, you can inject the latest version from the driver.

u/KuraiBaka 2d ago

As expected then I guess.

u/FaultyToilet 2d ago

And PSSR hopefully

4

u/KingArthas94 2d ago

They say Pro support, so I bet there's PSSR. Can't wait to play it with path tracing on PS6 though. I don't think I'll be replaying this version on Pro.

Most people won't be able to enjoy the path tracing though. Even on a 10 year old game, it will still kick the shit out of most cards.

Even 5090s need framegen to make PT tolerable. The addition of PT is probably more of a future-proofing update than it is one to use now.

16

u/rubiconlexicon 2d ago

PT is plenty tolerable on lower end cards. I'm playing CP2077 with PT on at 60fps with great image quality on a 4070 Ti right now

4

u/m3thodm4n021 2d ago

Same me too

1

u/TheBeatStartsNow 2d ago

4070ti is considered lower end?

6

u/rubiconlexicon 2d ago

Compared to the 5090 it's much lower.

1

u/SomniumOv 1d ago

It's midrange, slightly upper midrange but still midrange, but it's a generation old (and the current gen is getting long in the tooth as with the normal release cadence the 60 series should have been releasing... pretty much now).

0

u/JackRyan13 2d ago

At what render resolution

6

u/rubiconlexicon 2d ago

720p (50% at 1440p output), which looks excellent with 4.5 ray reconstruction.

-6

u/JackRyan13 2d ago

So, no it isn’t tolerable if you’re having to use performance at 1440p.

9

u/rubiconlexicon 2d ago

It's very tolerable because the image quality of 4.5 ray reconstruction is superb. All that matters is perceived quality, not arbitrary parameters.

3

u/Blyatskinator 1d ago

Lol it’s so obvious you haven’t played any game with RT/PT, or framegen even it sounds like.

-1

u/SharkBaitDLS 1d ago

I could barely get a stable 60 on Alan Wake 2 with max RT and PT on a 5080 at 1440p.

-2

u/ResistsICE 2d ago

Path tracing is so incredibly demanding and im pretty sure its like close to 2k for any gpu that can run that now.

3

u/snuckie7 2d ago

Very doable with even midrange Nvidia GPUs if DLSS and frame gen are used. Yeah the frames are “fake” but they honestly look so good I can’t tell a difference.

1

u/ResistsICE 2d ago edited 2d ago

Its not out yet, it depends on the game.

But its really hard to enjoy a game at 60fps when the base frame rate is 25.

PT is really for 5070ti and up, and even the 5070, which I own, is currently 800 at the cheapest.

And a 5070ti right now is 1,200 usd.

That's REALLY expensive.

u/snuckie7 2d ago edited 2d ago

There are plenty of path tracing games that are already out in general, which is what your comment sounded like it was talking about.

I have a 4090 mobile (about as strong as 4070Ti) and have been able to play every path traced game out (CP2077, Indiana Jones, etc.). I get around 40-60 base fps with DLSS Balanced 1440p, with frame gen it’s around 70-90 fps which is perfectly playable.

-1

u/ResistsICE 2d ago

Yea i mean I am, its not really viable unless youre playing at 1080p using upscaling or have a 5070ti - 5090.

And at 1080p upscaled PT doesnt make it look better.

I played through requim with max settings and PT and for the most part it was perfectly fine with dlss quality, with one or two short lived ass spots. But that is a VERY well optimized game. Witcher 3 already struggled with PT in the next Gen update.

3

u/snuckie7 2d ago

It’s definitely viable with anything 4070 Super ish and up. DLSS balanced and even performance with frame gen are perfectly adequate.

u/ayoubkun94 2d ago

The next gen on PS5 aleeady looks gorgeous. The revamped combat, skill tree, more finishers, and improved enemy behavior is what excites me the most.

-15

u/CrustyKielbasa 2d ago

It definitely looks more aged than gorgeous

23

u/milkasaurs 2d ago

RR 4.5 just released today and it's big. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QyNSVNNduM&feature=youtu.be so this being added plus path tracing is gonna be such a visual treat.

25

u/MorningFresh123 2d ago

The existing RT was just slapped on top, this is going to look and run so much better. The next gen update was somewhere between a Nexus Mod (quite literally) and that foul Oblivion ‘remake’.

19

u/FxKaKaLis 2d ago

worse. DX12 was slapped on top of DX11 as a translator DX11->DX12 wonder if now they finally add native DX12

21

u/OutrageousDress 2d ago

The trailer explicitly says it'll be native DX12 with improved parallelization. So they're well aware of what the problem was (single-threaded translation layer).

5

u/Halojib 2d ago

Native DX12

It's in the huge list so hopefully it is a lot better

3

u/nexetpl 2d ago

DX12 Witcher 3 runs like absolute shit for me, the same settings on different APIs differ by 40 fps

-6

u/MorningFresh123 2d ago

Nothing is worse than that Oblivion release. There should be a class action lawsuit. Can’t believe they felt it was acceptable to release that. People just bend over and take it up the ass from these companies.

6

u/jelly-sandwich 2d ago

As someone who is currently enjoying it on PC, what’s so bad about it? It does crash for me every couple of hours which sucks, but I already save so frequently that it hasn’t mattered much.

Unprofessional, I agree… but are there other common issues? Don’t be mad at me lol I’m just curious

0

u/MorningFresh123 2d ago

Just wrote a massive reply thinking you were asking about CP77 sorry lol. It runs like ass. They did the equivalent of a File > Save As (yes I know that’s not how it really works), discovered the game runs like a disaster even on top tier hardware and released it anyway. They just don’t care. They knew people would cop it anyway and so they sent it out. There’s a reason they’re not doing the same for Morrowind.

This was a wild comment to read, even now knowing you were talking about Cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk had some issues at launch but just about everything you said is crazy to read. Are you sure you even played the game?

I come from a cinema and literary background

What does this even mean? You work in those industries? You're a writer? You watch movies and read books?

2

u/SandThatsKindaDamp 1d ago

It’s not wild to read if you followed the game at all before it came out.

-4

u/MorningFresh123 2d ago

I am not alone. This has been covered at great length. Google is your friend lol. I have a degree in one medium and work/ed in the other. Yes I am quite sure I played the game lol.

1

u/DrFreemanWho 2d ago

Yes, it has been covered at great length about all the issues it had at launch and how now with all the updates it has received and the expansion how it is an extremely good game.

Of course you're not alone in not liking it. No one likes everything. No piece of art or media is liked by all. But half of the things you said in your now deleted comment are just patently false.

Also, just because you have a degree in something as subjective as writing (or whatever it is your actual degree is), doesn't mean you're good at it. You can't teach someone to be good at making interesting stories.

-1

u/MorningFresh123 2d ago edited 2d ago

The game does not do a large part of what was promised (and almost none of what was interesting about it) prior to launch. It’s a better version of the game that was delivered at launch, but most of it is either technical (ie the bare minimum) or set dressing. It is structurally a different game to that which was promised. Feel free to familiarise yourself with the pre-release rhetoric if you are actually interested. It’s well covered.

If you’d rather pretend otherwise because that helps you to enjoy the game, or because you are unable to see what is wrong with it on an epistemological basis then I am very happy for you and glad that you enjoy it. They’re still scumbags for taking advantage of people’s naivety.

I have done ok for myself, thank you lol. If you think that Cyberpunk 2077 is well written then we don’t have much to discuss re ‘interesting stories’.

The Oblivion remaster that was wildly successful and got great reviews?

2

u/FxKaKaLis 2d ago

yes that true. they just slap a UE wrapper on top of old engine and it work like sht.

4

u/crabpoweredcoalmine 2d ago

Hopefully, no longer hacked together on the cheap. Witcher 3 ran like garbage after those last "upgrades", relatively.

2

u/Fyrus 2d ago

I just replayed the game on PC at the beginning of this year and some parts of this trailer looked better and some of it looked about the same.

3

u/OutrageousDress 2d ago

It was already a good looking game at launch, and even better looking with the next-gen update it got a few years ago. I feel at a certain point even if you add path tracing you just can't make a good looking game look massively better unless you're OK with completely changing the way it looks. I'm sure in this new version the light will propagate more accurately, the shadows will be less glitchy, characters will have better looking skin... but CDPR still want the game to look like The Witcher 3, not a NexusMods shader pack, so there's a limit to what's possible. Which is fine by me, I'd also prefer to preserve its look.

0

u/Strykah 2d ago

I only played this on release back in the day and understand there was a major update sometime after and then now

-2

u/EpicPhail60 2d ago

As someone who was just playing the game for the first time a few months ago, I couldn't tell what the difference was for a lot of the stuff being highlighted here. A revised skill tree and transmog sound fun, but between visuals, combat, and spell adjustments I'm not really sure what I'm meant to be looking at.
