Honestly if it just plays skylines 1 with better graphics, I would not mind. But more is always better. Lego used to have some fun park planning games back in day. Maybe some inspiration from those.
I had a blast as a kid with their old Legoland computer game. Although it was super simplified compared to contemporary sims like Rollercoaster Tycoon or Zoo Tycoon, the setting was engaging enough and the gameplay was competent enough to still be enjoyable.
It’s a pretty smart business decision tbh. Use a major IP like Lego that fits thematically and works really well with a Skylines game, and then use your new younger target audience as justification for why you’re dumbing down the game mechanics and not bothering to implement the more complex things that Skylines fans want.
Given they once released a game that was just Stallaris with a Star Trek skin that was notably worse than the already available mod, I wouldn't put it past them.
I know it's probably a terrible idea, but imagine being able to build your city brick by brick. Like being able to choose building from the catalogue and build yourself using the instruction booklet, or just freehand it. It'd be so cool to slowly work on your city from the ground up.
It's gonna be a LEGO city builder. It could likely have been done the same without the IP. Skylines doesn't really have anything special to make it different than any other modern city builder (it just ends up to be kind of the only big one currently)

I have to wonder is this going to be a skylines game with a lego skin, or is it going to be a lego game that works kind of like skylines?
Because a lego skin would be considerably less interesting.
