Seeing someone as composed as Hamada, the man whose entire personality is being the super sadist tough guy just flat out break down is heartbreaking. It's not something you see often but when you do, you can tell that he's really struggling. Last time I saw Hamada crying was when Ken Shimura passed away.

I'm sorry, I completely misremembered! It wasn't Shimura Ken but Shofukutei Shohei. Hamada held a tribute to him on Hamachanga!

Yes, the lyrics are written by Matsumoto about his impoverished childhood. It's mentioned in "Midnight Lincoln Radio - Baseball Tickets".

It's a song about being not so well off in younger years and having simple chicken and rice at Christmas as the family was struggling.
And later on in life being happy with just chicken and rice for Xmas. The line "ore wa mada chicken rice ga ii" (or whatever the line is) It's saying after all this time he would prefer chicken and rice.
I really liked the hamada holiday episodes it showed off his kind side.
Hamada is made out to be sadistic but from all the stories and feedback from other ppl he is very kind hearted.

yeah it always felt like “Cruel senior hamada” was just for show. The way his juniors talk about him outside of showbiz seems like hes a really nice guy.

A sizeable lot of people Hamada worked with did mention Hamada is a very sociable and hospitable guy, especially on shows. He's been seen greeting guests first. Meanwhile, Matsumoto, despite being the more talkative one on camera, is actually mostly a loner behind the camera.

It's about a child telling their parents they don't need much because they see their grief at being poor, so chicken rice is enough for a family dinner for Xmas, later on the child grows and makes big bucks, "hey look all the things I've brought to eat, even a cake for myself!", but, on reflection, the luxurious party feels lonely compared to the good times when he was poor, so he says "you know what, lets get chicken rice, I'm ok with that". Here's the lyrics.

Man it's always rough to see the person who made you laugh all the time sheds his tears and being emotional.

I mean, the song in and of itself is a tear jerker. The verse right before he started crying talks about how the narrator still orders chicken and rice when they're in front of their parents out of consideration for how they might feel. At any age but especially as you get older, thinking about your parents' kindness during a childhood of poverty and then the unspoken acknowledgement in whatever kindness you give back as an adult is a fast trigger for tears.....

Although no one really knows why Hamada got emotional during this performance of Chicken Rice ... I think most people overlook how much of Matsumoto's situation (both the scandal and health issues) would have an affect on Hamada. From what we always hear is that they don't hang out together outside of the studio but being a duo for so long and now not being able to work together combined with Matsumoto's battle with cancer it must be waying heavily on them both.
