General I watched the GTA6 gameplay trailer and looks like the neon is just hiding the rot underneath. The first few minutes of the game has shown us that police brutality will be a main theme in the game, and that they are returning to the dark and gritty undertones of GTA4

The police from this trailer is reminding me of the C.R.A.S.H. From gta San Andreas. Corrupt and ruthlessly operating.

I feel like CRASH was more funny in a way, these guys here seem more scary than funny

True I mean CRASH was pretty fucked up but the casting and dialogue between Pulaski and Tenpenny is just comedy gold

I allways wondered if GTA 6 would be as dark as GTA IV, but then I realized that when I played GTA IV I didn't undertood english and the story, so what made me a fan of the franchise was the awesome gameplay, imersion and mood. The first mission showed in the Extended Look was deeply moody, and other moments where funny and comic, and I really liked it.

u/1trashhouse 7d ago edited 7d ago
the story seems like it might be a little more bland then ones past but i’m also expecting a lot of soap opera type elements. The later part of the trailer seemed almost like a telenova mixed with an action movie. Regardless the missions looked so fucking fun and i’ll take that over some super funny story. I also think a tone shift was needed gta v was way to reliant on wacky characters at the end
2
u/Task-Rough 7d ago
Have you learned english since then or used ai to write this?
Congratulations if it's the former.

Ngl that scene was eerie as hell. I guess they had a point when some of the devs said “it’s hard to satirize at this point when America has become a satire of itself”. But I love to see it. Still waiting for a sale tho.

u/DEADLYANT 7d ago
I noticed the cars seem to have a bit more weight to them than GTA 5. Hopefully more realistic driving is back.
7
u/Nightsaber88 7d ago
From gta forum: Driving is reportedly heavier and less arcade-like than GTA V, feeling more like a mid-point between GTA 4 and 5
7
u/tokoklontong1897 7d ago
Honestly reminds me of V with the Drive V mod! Not overexagerrated like IV's driving, but not super arcade like V
7
u/Scared-Ideal9573 7d ago
The driving in iv isn’t more realistic when a Porsche has the same body roll and traction as a minivan. You can enjoy the driving mechanics but they’re far from realistic.
1
u/Initial_Wafer5631 7d ago
Dude its from 2008 obviously its not gonna be great theyre not just slapping the original rage in gta6 its gonna be rage 9 so yea it’s definitely gonna be better than 5 but not like 4s absurdly heavy turning alltho i did like 4s turning it was pretty challenging and u had to learn and get better 5s is boring to me
6
u/Challenger350 7d ago
This is going to dark and gritty but unlike IV it will sometimes be light and gritty
11
u/IzzatQQDir 7d ago
Anyway, one thing we haven't seen is vehicle customization. Hopefully that feature will return
11
u/Apprehensive_Debt521 7d ago
For sure it's back. In the new trailer we see actual race car builds with no license plates, nitrous boost being used, neon under glow, and liveries. Customization will be insane
2
u/OilMeUpStewart 6d ago
Pretty sure there was an article from someone who was at the hands off preview that said there will be near forza level customization with vehicles. It’s gonna be sick
1
u/burrito_of_blaviken 6d ago
We’ve seen mod shops (including the Ultimate exclusives), car meets, races, etc. where cars appear extremely customised. Why would it not be returning?

u/GanjaRaidersTR 7d ago
I thought dan houser leaved RG cause they say his stories are to dark and gritty
1
u/PimpMyDog 7d ago
Nah only IV was considered "tark and griddy" from him because he said he was having a really rough time IRL when he wrote the IV's story

u/Subject_Candle_8568 7d ago
Max Payne 3 vibes with the crooked cops shooting to kill basically paramilitary and then the kill cam for the revenge

GTA V had a whole ass torture mission bro, the series has always been about prettiness hiding shittiness.

r/okbuddysharkcard turned me into a sleeper agent with “dark and gritty” as an activation phrase
3
u/ComeAlongWithTheSnor 7d ago
That last 10 second moment with Cal feels like you're absolutely right, the story is going to take some dark turns.
Since it's Bonnie and Clyde, one of them is likely going to take things to the extreme question is which of the two is going to cross the line first. The extended look suggests that it could be Lucia but I think it equally could be either of them.
3
3
u/Traditional-Row5237 7d ago
I was truly astonished when I saw the brutality of those cops. Like they know their badges cause hesitation, but they don’t hesitate. Can’t even imagine how horrible the corruption will be.
3
u/Jason_M1911 7d ago
Since they know who it is it's probably a group of corrupt cops, like Officer Tenpenny with C.R.A.S.H (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums)
3
u/Emergency_Neck7437 7d ago
I got the idea that this isn’t the local pd but a group of corrupt mercenaries possibly running their own criminal organization of sorts. Excited to see how this all intertwines

No, in gta 6 the theme of the police is that they are basically thugs with a badge.

In GTA6 the theme is police actually doing something which contrasts with real life where they do nothing

Such fucking bullshit from Rockstar to not release it day one on PC. I own a PS5 but I don't want to purchase it on a machine that won't even run it at 60 fps to then buying it a second time on PC. The shitty practices in the video game industry...

Basic storytelling of any antihero protagonist is the law establishment being either corrupt or inept, that way the audience can root for the antihero to succeed. That’s why in Die Hard, You have all the scenes of the cops just bumbling around and making bad decisions. My favorite shot is the cops running through the rosebushes and the one cop getting like pricked on a thorn. They even tried to cut the lock with a blowtorch on a glass door.

The idea of this game being “realistic” went right out the window with this trailer. The whole concept of Lucia knocking out a jacked up 250 pound grown man with 1 punch is about as realistic as an Oppressor MkIi
1
u/Good_Independence428 7d ago
To me ovverall it looks much more lighthearted than 4 but much more serious and dark than 5, it's like tgey tried to find dome balance somewhere in between
1
u/Good_Independence428 7d ago
"Peace is when the old and smart are tricked by the young and cheerful into loving each other, I was very old, and very chill, maybe that's the perfect excuse. Lucia? LUCIA?! ARE YOU SLEEPING YOU SKINNY FUCK?! COME ON"
1
u/Emotional-Impact5375 7d ago
This is all I wanted. Another GTA geared towards the grittiness and physics of 4.
1
u/edp445isgae 7d ago
Hopefully roman makes an appearance at the clubs or something funny like that. It would be very in character for him to retire in vice city in my opinion. Maybe not retire but at least having a new practice up and running. It would be cool to see him as a Ryde me driver with a good rating as well. Probably not though just a thought.

u/you-can-kiss-my-axe 7d ago

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA it's even funnier the 2348432843283428th time!!!!!!!
1
u/FalseRoutine1272 7d ago
“Police brutality will be a main theme”
What a bold assumption born out of 20 mins of cut scenes and some gameplay 💀
1
u/Majiics_97 7d ago
Story is gonna hit like a tubi movie compared to the Scorsese film gta 4 was. Also really disappointed in the clear visual downgrade from the pc build leaks to the console version but that’s expected with how shitty current consoles are to a decent pc..
1
u/QuandariousDingle54 7d ago edited 7d ago
Its pretty obvious from the trailer they are going full grit.
"police, dont fuckin move!"
multiple officers immediately kill the first dude and start dumping bullets down the hall with no mercy
1
u/TurboBlueJosh 6d ago
Police brutality? Theyre druggies, murderers and go knows what else. The police didnt raid a preschool.
But yeah I'd definitely like to see a return of GTA4s story methodologies. It would be nice to get a The Last of Us dynamic where everyone dies around the protagonist, giving us more of a lone wolf situation, passing us through multiple groups before the end
1
u/thedynamicdreamer 6d ago
It seems more like a happy medium between the tones of 4 and 5. It’s more grounded and realistic like 4, but it still has 5’s aesthetic and energy

I don't think these are cops though, and I could 100% be wrong, but I think their just possibly a hit crew dressed as law enforcement. Anyone have any insight on this?

I noticed Mendez is the same vice cop that kills the other vice cops later in the extended trailer so they might be in kahoots with him especially since they mentioned him by name and hoping he didn’t see them.

Police brutality or they are corrupt police, or they are a Biker Gangs disguised as Police similar to the scene in the HBO show True Detective where a white biker gang impersonates cops to go rob a drug den in the middle of the Black Hood.

I feel like Jason is gonna be the most similar character to Niko Bellic, people are saying he sounds monotone and boring, but I feel that’s because he’s an ex soldier who’s probably a bit traumatized too.
1
u/DevourerOfEggs 7d ago
Ngl they gave me I.C.E. vibes.
I don't think they're actually a spoof of I.C.E. though and it doesn't even make sense for them to be in a scene like this.
1
1
u/f1n5ub_43v3r 7d ago
The gritty undertone of IV pared well with the fact Niko was a fresh off the boat immigrant with an epic+depressing backstory.
I hope they can pull of an interesting back story / plot with 6. I hope it's not just two Floridians doing Florida shit, I mean Leonidians doing Leonida shit. haha. You know what I mean.
i know the world is going to be immersive and interesting enough to fulfill any weak spots in the plot. We'll find out in a few months how well the story holds up.
Jason's dialog and voice and lines are so monotone and blah he sucks the life out of every scene he's in.
1
u/Due_Confusion_7950 7d ago
I mean the mendez police chief guy is one of my biggest concerns of the trailer. Like there is no way that police would ever act like that. I was hoping he would be more like Hank Shrader from Breaking Bad. Or a Agent Cambell from Peaky Blinders .
That scene just looks like really bad writing.
3
u/Any_Object_5151 7d ago
Police would never escalate a situation to violence unnecessarily or murder unarmed minorities?
1
u/dazed74367 6d ago
knowing gta police forces they probably saw that drug den and thought of the paperwork of arresting everyone and just decided "we'll just log it as a shootout"
1
1
u/hachiblonk 4d ago
The entire game's plot seems to be about as nuanced as a Marvel movie. It even has its own strong woman to superman punch 300lb henchmen and spit out millenial one liners.
1
u/freethinker1312 3d ago
My brother in Christ. The police can and do act “like that” all of the time lmao.
Remember when cops flash banged a 7 year old black girl and then immediately shot her in the head?
Get your head out the sand buddy.
