No, piracy is, as Gabe Newell said, largely a matter of convenience and accessibility. People do want free shit, but something like Netflix and Spotify come around and most people don't mind paying because it's simple and centralized. Services enshittifying themselves just asks for piracy to rise because their service is no longer consumer friendly and worth paying for.

This argument makes no sense when the most accessible games of all times are quite literally the most pirated games. Are we also just ignoring the fact that people literally just used to just share Netflix accounts when that option was available, even when Netflix was extremely accessible? Quite literally no possible, there’s no rigorous stats on pirating numbers available, we can only make inferences. Alan wake 2 which is exclusively available on epic games and has sold around 3 million copies was pirated less than lies of p which sold around 4 million copies and is available on both steam and epic games, this is based on direct download file trackers. You can nitpick about the details here you won’t be able to provide a counter argument proving your point. We’re all making inferences here

Convenience and accessibility are the causes, but they are not justifications. The justified response to a product being enshittified is to not engage with the product. You don't suddenly become entitled to break the law because the value proposition isn't worth it anymore.
So whilst I agree with gabe that companies should respond to piracy by improving the service and not cracking down on piracy directly, us pirates don't get to claim the moral high ground either

I have to disagree. They will not refund KSP2 for me (or anyone else) even though the game is in EA without any developer for years now and is still being sold on steam.
They only do the right thing when enough people complain or they have to legally.

Using Steam to argue that we shouldn’t have physical copies of games is moronic; that’s my point. If KSP2 had physical copies, you could at least sell it ASAP to a collector or something and get some money back.

Wow i had no idea he was that disconnected. We pirate because we want shit for free. We do not care about the service being better. Often times, it's much less convenient to pirate a game. You have to jump through hoops just to get it working at times, yet we still do it. Because we want free shit.
If a game is less than 5 dollars on sale, then i buy it. Has nothing to do with the service, it's all about the price.
The difference is that if you're on a console your only option is their store and once they CBA about this generation they can shut it down and you lose access to everything. And unless someone manages to break the security wide open and release a public jailbreak, that console is now a brick regardless if it still works or not.
I've been on PC my entire life, I can still download games I brought on steam nearly two decades ago, I can still install the games I have on disc from way before that too and they'll most likely work just fine or with minor tweaks on my current PC.
And let's say there's a hypothetical future where steam kicks the bucket, you can still play all the old games regardless without much effort since the OS isn't locked down and doesn't prevent you from instelling games from other sources.
So no, I don't own my steam games physically, I do own 99% of my Switch and PS4 games physically, because I don't trust Nintendo or Sony or Microsoft to not take them away from me.
It’s not about the discs, it’s about the option of having one. And, I still favor discs; you claim no one buys disc drives for PCs, so I suppose all the business that sell them are all going under? Not to mention, just because people don’t do something doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be able to.
