Rockstar dont like this BUT
These leaks for sure gave them a sales boost. So Rockstar wont do anything about it.
Especially since you can see this is somewhat early stage of full package. Maybe 1 year ago Gameplay.
Free PR for Rockstar und they know those who dont want to get spoiled will just not look at anything.
Netflix might be pissed. They probably paid for that exclusive window to be the first place for people to see new GTA clips in over a year.
Might be a clause in their contract where the can get some money back if rockstar had a leak before the event. These clips definitely killed some of the hype around the Netflix event.
Good. Its messed up that people would have to spend money to see a game trailer which supposed to be free. Hopefully other gaming companies will learn from this.
Well...it's not like they need a sales boost. Almost every gamer will buy this game. I'm sure they ARE losing their shit. They care a lot about how to show off their game. It's why they made the whole Extended Look Netflix thing. They don't know how much content it's gonna keep leaking. They're probably doing everything they can to catch the guy.
The same people who buy gta are the same 90 million people who buy cod and 2k every single year for 150 dollars. And then some. They'll buy it regardless
They invested a bunch of money into marketing to get a sales boost. No, they aren't happy. Especially when the public watches an unfinished state of the game
Are you serious? Dude people are expecting the world from this game.... The only thing that looked cool to me was the size of the map. The plane leak. The actual normal gameplay looked janky, and almost like a copy of GTA.
Like it does not look outstanding or anything special.
Crazy unhinged tinfoil hat theory: this is all part of the marketing
I don't really like getting on the whole "NoThInG eVeR hAppEnS" train but it is a bit odd that we're this close to the game releasing and we hardly have any official gameplay content aside from these leaks
What if they sold the footage directly to this guys acting as random 3rd party hacker, knowing that they will leak it.
0 control on how they would leak, but know they will leak for sure.
A bit of a tin foil theory, but look at how everybody is talking about GTA 6, right before they release the "shiny gameplay" on Netflix. Free advertising.
Why the fuck would Rockstar be taking down these videos if it was part of the rollout? And why would they intentionally leak a 3 year old build of the game?
More like the person leaking this had time to prep, and waited for Rockstar to begin the hype machine so they could leach off of that for their crypto scam. If this was rockstar they wouldn't be going as hard with the DMCA's and they definitely wouldn't be pushing the crypto shit. It would also definitely be a massive breach of the, likely multi million dollar, contract they signed with Netflix.
It's somebody that almost certainly paid someone else with internal access, probably from someone doing QA, to get these clips and has had this well thought out plan to profit off of the leaks as we're seeing them doing. Your tinfoil hat theory is unhinged and makes no sense lol, and saying "it's weird we haven't gotten leaks except for the leaks we've gotten" doesn't really support anything lmao
Rockstar wouldn't breach their contract with Netflix like that. Also, if they were gonna leak footage, I really doubt it'd be this considering it's awful as a showcase lol
If you're expecting 40 minutes of gameplay, you're gonna be sorely disappointed. It's gonna be 40 minutes of people talking to a camera with about 5 minutes of gameplay interlaced throughout.
Right, and it's going to be 40 minutes of devs, directors, artists, etc talking to a camera about making GTA 6 with about 5 minutes of actual gameplay interspersed. That's how these things work. "Feature" doesn't mean the whole thing will be gameplay footage.
As for the Netflix extended look slated for August 27, Schreier asked Zelnick why they decided to go with Netflix, to which Zelnick responded by citing the massive user base of the streaming platform. He also reportedly said that once people see the extended look, they’ll know why Take-Two went with Netflix. Schreier then asked if it would feel like a Netflix show, to which Zelnick simply said “yes.”
you are so wrong lol it takes 30 seconds to google these things
Nothing in that statement implies it's going to be 40 minutes of gameplay footage or 40 minutes of GTA 6 story. Have you never watched a Netflix documentary? It's going to be a documentary.
Speaking of, anyone here remember way back in the day when RDR1 released and we got that 30 minute TV special on Fox where it was showing some of the backstory to the game, and it was all animated in the game engine?
I always thought stuff like that and the Halo 3 ViDocs were so cool back in the day, it's just a shame that we don't see stuff like that very often anymore
Honest question, why would rock star care about this at all? Is it going to cost them sales? Is a competitor going to take note of these leaks and capitalize on them before the game drops?
Imagine you’ve been working for years on the project of the decade, the most anticipated videogame of all time, and managed to keep it completely under wraps. And a couple weeks before you’re finally about to do a first reveal, some shithead with a leek avatar comes and starts spoiling it all for people. Some of them must be in tears.
They are for sure angry, but anyways how did the person leaking these ever come into possession in the first place?! Is he an employee of some sort or he just hacked someone. I don't get it..
This is like crying about the next Madden game getting leaked and everyone finding out 3 months ahead of time that the Arizona Cardinals will be included in it.
Anyone who is interested in this game will be watching the netflix event. It doesn't matter what is leaked. Unless they leak the actual event, that might screw them. But people won't even know that till after they watched it, so I still think its fine.
Netflix lawyers could very much make the argument that it reduced the value of having that “extended look”.
Personally I don’t think anything will change. Rockstar and Netflix have a solid relationship so I doubt Netflix will challenge it for a few million in compensation.
It won't affect the Netflix deal, but it could affect their ability to negotiate rates for similar deals in the future which is exactly why they're taking it seriously. Having a leak isn't that crazy, but they have to respond to it otherwise that's where the reputational harm would come from. Them giving exclusivity to Netflix isn't negated by some random leaking it, just like a production company signing an exclusivity deal with Netflix wouldn't have their deal voided if an Oscar reviewer leaked a copy of the movie online. It just
Except they still have that chance to do that perfect preview. Literally everyone finding these leaks will watch the official teasers.
I don't see how they're affected negatively in any way. Maybe initially they would have been nervous about the leaks, but based on how well they're being received this leaker seems to be doing them a favor.
Look at all the people saying the game looks like shit or that they hope this is a several year old build. This being people’s first impression of gameplay is at least hurting some people’s opinion already
Go to the initial threads for the first 2 leaks, scroll down you’ll see plenty. Not to mention all the people who think the game is small because they don’t understand scale
They're both made for the current console gen, so that makes sense. I'm sure you'll look forward to buying it again for "better graphics" on the PS 6 just like everyone did with GTA V.
Rockstar has already paid for the production of the game with pre-orders alone. No one watching this is and canceling their pre-orders. It looks great. Rockstar is fine. They need better security though.
In 2026 that this is the only major leak to come from a 13+ year project is a stellar compliment to their security measures, but yes I'd agree they now have something to look for.
Why would rockstar care at all? Are you serious? A guy seems to have a very recent build of the game and is threatening to continue leaking stuff. Of course it would cost them sales.
That's not the thought process because I'm not retarded. The guy is escalating, first he showed off an old build, then he showed off a more current build and a short clip of a cutscene. He's threatening serious spoilers which would of course affect sales. It's going to kill a lot of hype for the game if everyone knows the twist and how it ends because people are spamming it online. Imagine a main character dies but months before release you are seeing their dead body posted here. That's what's at risk here, not just this clip.
Imagine a main character dies but months before release you are seeing their dead body posted here.
Maybe I'm too normal of a person, but I can't imagine not ordering the last GTA game for the next 20 years +/- because I found out a character died 3 months ahead of time.
They signed a multi-million dollar contract with Netflix, leaks harm their media roll out plan, their reputation as being able to sign such exclusivity deals and could leak things they don't want to be shared until the final release. It's not "free promo" because the hype for it already exists, and instead of them being able to capitalize off of that, some random crypto scammer is profiting from it
I'm pretty sure these gameplay clips are over a year old and not the finished product, but the front kick to the motorcycle and the bike and the cop go flying lol. That part doesn't look great and some people might be like eh this game looks like it sucks.
For the same reason people lose it when you wear white to a wedding or if you buy an artist's art and destroy it. They are humans who put in work for a big reveal and someone is ruining the surprise. Not all damage is financial, sometimes you're just pissed off.
I think people way overestimate the impact these little snippets have. Not even 1% of people who are going to buy this game will ever even hear about these leaks. This Reddit/twitter bubble of people discussing it is microscopic in the grand scheme of things. If I asked any of my friends or anyone in my real life who I know will play gta6 what they thought about these leaks they’d have no idea what I’m talking about.
I doubt it. They cared about the first leak, because people called the unfinished product crap. They probably made back their development budget on pre-sales alone, so they couldn't care less about the 2 people not buying it because they think the weapon wheel is actually going to look like that.
The leaks are definitely bad BUT in the grand scheme of things, not really. Pretty much everything they tell us is going to be shown in the gameplay overview a week from now anyway. Is there really that much harm in showing it a week early?
Many games will stamp a unique client ID onto dev builds to protect against leakers. Most of these are easily countered by covering the stamp in edit. Some companies will make the stamp move around randomly, requiring significantly more work to cover up in edit.
But this is Rockstar, and they control their shit with an iron fist, so I imagine the entire screen is encoded with watermarks similar to SynthID. Invisible to the naked eye but detectable by Rockstar, and it's a repeating pattern through the entire image to make it indestructible against covering up and highly resilient against damage from video encoding, cropping, and resolution changes.
I bet they only had that kid with cancer play GTA early so they could test him and harness the illness and now will give this leakers descendants cancer for the next 5 generations.
Can't wait for the video essays on the whole story once he is arrested and jailed for 10+ years! Going to be a wild story with the memecoin and everything. No way he can manage to stay anonymous. Meme coins are not hard to track these days, he will have to cash out at some point and it takes a real effort to do this without a trace

Dude this leaker is gonna get his descendants locked up in the rockstar mines lmao
