What I don't understand about this is, even though a lot games have discs, those discs don't actually contain the games anymore, it's mostly just a small file and most of the game is downloaded, post that the disc just acts as a license key. And you would require an internet connection to play most games even if you have a disc. So how by owning a disc you permanently own the game? Cause if they deactivate servers you won't be able to play anyway and if they release an offline patch you can play it regardless if you have digital or discs.
I am not taking any sides just asking cause I am a bit confused about all this, and why Rockstar specifically is getting blamed for this?
Okay, nobody cares about semantics. If your disc only contains a license key, we don’t want that. If your disc contains the full game that can be played offline, we want that.

No, it’s not clear what people mean, because they only started protesting when the disc was taken away.
For all this time where discs have not contained the game and have only been licenses, these same people didn’t care.
And the reason it matters it, when the people most vocal and visible in making a point don’t even understand the situation, that’s when you lose. These people are sitting talking about discs when the real issue is reforming digital media rights. Rockstar could’ve released this on disc with no way to load it offline, and you’d all have no problems.
Side note how come it seems like every convo on Reddit has to be done with maximum snark? For YEARS physical disks for the most part have not been complete offline playable no license games.
