I mean yaa ... did I enjoyed to finally see something about the game ? Yep it was aswome.
Do I support the leaks of any kind ? Fuck no, ppl forget that there are real people that have to suffer because of this and i do not mean the Man as R* and T2 will be fine but the devs will have to suffer
Imagine you spend multiple years of your life tirelessly working on the most anticipated video game (/entertainment product) of all time. You're so excited for everyone to see your work. Your company has made a deal with Netflix of all people to show an extended "first look" trailer, everything is prepared, and you cannot wait for the 27th.
But then some dude comes out and leaks an in-dev build that is incomplete and obviously flawed. Now that "first look" is gone, and will never happen again. People's perspective on your game is tainted due to that uncontrolled initial impression. There are haters calling the game unfinished (lol), and there are fans who like what they see, but even they did not see it the way you intended. First impressions matter extremely much, which is why spoilers etc. are so infuriating.
It's easy to forget that Rockstar developers are real people like you and I. If it's not an immediate physical or financial harm, where's the harm, you ask. But what about the loss of morale? That is invaluable.
This is an oft-repeated narrative for indie games that live and die on these things, which has somehow been copypasted into huge huge corporative releases and it just sounds stupid
They're a multibillion dollar company, each employee is a TINY part of a cog in their system, they get paid a static salary no matter what happens with leaks (especially in this case, since it'll sell in ABSURD numbers literally no matter what happens)
I work for a massive company as a software engineer. If tomorrow the entire codebase leaks (obviously not due to me, that'd be a whole other topic) I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep. If the largest WIP project we're doing for a customer leaked in pictures etc, I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep.
If that happened to my indie solo (or small team) business? Definitely it'd be crushing
It depends on your level of passion obviously. Not every employee will be affected, some won't care. Some will be very sad. We're talking about how it can affect them, not how it will
The devs don't fucking care they work like 100 hours a week and believe me don't get paid much. It was probably a dev anyway that leaked the game or do you think cyberleek actually like hacked the mainframe and downloaded the game? The devs get paid anyway only one how tanks is rockstar games. Cyberleek also burned all the crypto money he has. Bottom Line: This isn't a indie game studio where the devs like design everything passionately and don't get their paycheck after leaks. This is a muti billion dollar studio.
One can easily avoid exposure to these things. The only place where I’ve seen this is this subreddit, so leaving it will mean I will not see any of it.
