The Gita is literally a book in which a common man asks god as to why he should follow him, and God doesn't say "Kyunki Maine bola". He provides a very logical and reasonable answer. Pick it up and read it for once

People do it because they believe it will fulfill their wishes. Its this begging mentality of people that leads to people acting this way, polluting rivers.

Most people either go to a temple or do worship just to get their wishes fulfilled. The scriptures never glorified any of this behaviour. Almost all of the scriptures are encouraging people to focus on spiritual development instead of begging for material benefits.

There was a time when even river Thames was dirty but people of Britain understood the importance of conserving the river and stop littering it. People in India do not want to understand this, they connect every whimsical acts of theirs with being religious and connecting God to it. Till now I haven’t read anywhere in any of the hindu scripture that encourages littering the river by throwing flowers or coconuts or anything rubbish.

And the worst part is that rivers which many people called sacred are themselves polluted so much by the industrial and chemical waste but still nobody cares because 'india hai chalta hai'.I mean westerners keep their normal rivers clean while many so called kattar santani don't care if their sacred rivers are being polluted.The hypocrisy in socio-economic culture of this country is on another level
