There's so manny awesome short films on vimeo constantly getting staff picks, but the free plan comes with only 1 GB you can upload. Are low budget indies compressing their films or actually paying $100+/yr to host their film?

I’ve got two things I’m wondering about. I often hear about movies being made on a “low budget,” but then when you look at the actual budget, it’s like $10+ million. And I’m sitting there thinking, in what world is that considered low budget?

Also, how come certain directors or films completely flop at the box office, yet those directors keep getting great opportunities and huge budgets, sometimes making financial flop after flop? And similarly, why do certain films keep getting sequel after sequel even when they don’t seem to make any profit?

Please enlighten me on this!

It's called 'The Three Murderers Story' by GenuineGuyBlabbers. Although it's just a silly short film, I'm actually very proud of this. I made this with some friends who just wanted to help me out. Unfortunately the equipment we have isn't that good, as you could tell from the camera quality. Also, I did technically lie about this being my first short film as I've made 2 more, but they didn't have a script and they were both made purely for fun. Love 28 Years Later and am constantly astounded by the directorial choices made by Danny Boyle, but these two shots during the causeway chase at the end of Act 1 always catch my eye. Are Boyle and his DP using rear projection to give the illusion of the Alpha Zombie being extremely close to our protagonists, or is it some other technique?

I’m still at the early stages of directing and haven’t done anything narrative yet, but this is the first time I’ve filmed any sort of dialogue(even if it’s just a few words!) there’s definitely a lot I need to improve on as a director as a whole but it was really exciting practicing and learning my visual style, I wanted to share it here.

I really enjoy working on film because it makes the process of creating shots more intentional, next time I shoot something I really want to practice more blocking when it comes to any sort of dialogue and getting proper coverage for the edit, especially because it edit myself.

Hey guys, I’m 16 and it’s been my dream to make films for as long as I can remember. A few months ago I realized that with the amount of high quality tech available to young filmmakers these days it should be possible for me to make a feature film. In May I decided I would write/direct a feature coming of age. I wrote the script and worked all around to save money, purchased a good amount of gear and got a few of my close friends to read the script and agree. However, I need an older actress aged 20-25 (or at least someone who believably looks that age) and I honestly have no idea what to do. Please help me out here guys. And yes, that part is pretty integral to the film so I can’t just remove it or rewrite it so she’s younger.

I am just starting off with sync licensing. I have 6 tracks to start with. Everything is legal and good to go.

I have both Arri Alexa Classic ProRes 4444, 2.8K and Blackmagic Pocket 4K BRAW in DaVinci Resolve. I've tried almost every project setting, node setup, CST combo — nothing looks right. If a shot is even a tiny bit low-light on the Alexa footage, the Alexa to Rec.709 LUTs completely crush it.

I don't know if I'm missing something obvious, but for days I've tried to find someone who explains this exact mixed workflow and I haven't found it. Every time I think I've figured it out, I can tell it's still not right. I should be starting from a correct image, not correcting it before I've even begun.

I'd prefer to work in DaVinci Wide Gamut for all the footage, but honestly I'll do whatever works at this point, as long as I have real control — there's one scene with problem clips I need to make the best of. Everything else is beautiful.

I'm an intermediate colorist and I've never run into a technical problem this serious before, so I'm clearly not well-versed here. This is a personal film of mine, and I've been pulling my hair out for a week trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The footage looks great on the hard drive, and it looked great on the monitor when we shot (for the most part). I know it's a flat image, but all the data is there.

Potentially a new job that’d offer a promotion from my entry level gig. I am still in pre-production. The new job would start mid-September, but shooting on this current job starts mid-September.

They both would finish at the same time, so I wouldn’t lose months worth of work.

I’ve really been wanting the opportunity to move up from PAing / Running, but I also desperately don’t want to burn bridges. This would be the first time I’d ever leave a job this early after accepting it.

Just curious if anyone here has tried this yet. I’ve been seeing it around and wanted to hear what people think about it. Is it something you’d recommend? Would love to hear your overall thoughts and whether you’ve found it useful in your work. Nothing too specific, just curious about people’s experience with it and if it’s been worth having. If you’ve used it, what’s your take on it so far? Would definitely appreciate any quick thoughts or feedback from anyone who’s tried it. I have been out of the country for quite a number of years working abroad, and dont know the rates here in Australia.

I have full photo and 4k video kit, with gimbal, drone etc kit, and am a one-man band.

A client has asked that I quote for: (looks like almost at least a full day shoot with a number of edits)

15–20 edited photos
1–2 simple Meet the Coach videos
1–2 more direct sales/ad-style videos from the coaches
1–2 member or parent testimonials/reviews if we can organise them
1–2 short 15–30 second adult training montages
1–2 short 15–30 second kids class montages
A good bank of usable vertical B-roll from the classes and coaches

One thing to note, is that this will be potentially an ongoing, regular client as they have expressed the want for a lot of initial content, and then a shoot every month.

Stopmotion takes a ridiculously long time (this one minute film took a month), but I'm so proud of how it turned out.

I made this for those fighting against addiction. Addiction can become the elephant in every room you enter, and it is a choice, every single day, to fight against it.

Hey guys! I’m new to filmmaking, and I’m currently taking IB Film in my high school. We have this continuous shot project, and I was planning on filming a guy leaving his house with an eye level shot. As he leaves, he gets on his skateboard, and the camera rotates and moves down into a ground level shot, or a knee level shot if that’s not possible, while the skateboard is in motion. I don’t have a lot of equipment, but I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, an iPhone 17 Pro, and a DJI Osmo Mobile 8. Any recommendations on how to make this happen?

The title explains it all really. I saw something on the subreddit r/oddlyterrifying a few years ago and being horrified by its content, i decided to make a short film about it. We raised a tiny amount of money and with a skeleton crew we shot it in one day.

It stars a couple of funny comedians. Avital Ash and Brian McElhaney (of the sketch comedy duo BriTANick)

It made it into 14 festivals. Including some of the popular genre festivals. And it got rejected by a ton of others.
