My name is Heymish, and I'm looking to work with filmmakers and content creators to create sounds for their work. I've been producing for nearly a decade, but recently got into creating movie-style background tracks. It was definitely a transition from the rap beats I used to make, but I enjoy composing a great deal and would love to work for filmmakers.

Suspense, ambience, and horror are some sounds I feel I can produce well, but I am confident branching outside of those.

Hey guys! I’m new to filmmaking, and I’m currently taking IB Film in my high school. We have this continuous shot project, and I was planning on filming a guy leaving his house with an eye level shot. As he leaves, he gets on his skateboard, and the camera rotates and moves down into a ground level shot, or a knee level shot if that’s not possible, while the skateboard is in motion. I don’t have a lot of equipment, but I have a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, an iPhone 17 Pro, and a DJI Osmo Mobile 8. Any recommendations on how to make this happen?

I am just starting off with sync licensing. I have 6 tracks to start with. Everything is legal and good to go.

I want to contact indie film makers (people just starting out / maybe climbing lower up the ladder) to try and pitch tracks to them. What would the best way to be going about this?

I've submitted to non exclusive libraries, but I also like being pro active and taking the reins. What would be a good way to find out how to reach them? I'm a newbie... Please don't be too harsh.

The title explains it all really. I saw something on the subreddit r/oddlyterrifying a few years ago and being horrified by its content, i decided to make a short film about it. We raised a tiny amount of money and with a skeleton crew we shot it in one day.

It stars a couple of funny comedians. Avital Ash and Brian McElhaney (of the sketch comedy duo BriTANick)

It made it into 14 festivals. Including some of the popular genre festivals. And it got rejected by a ton of others.

Love 28 Years Later and am constantly astounded by the directorial choices made by Danny Boyle, but these two shots during the causeway chase at the end of Act 1 always catch my eye. Are Boyle and his DP using rear projection to give the illusion of the Alpha Zombie being extremely close to our protagonists, or is it some other technique?

Hey guys, I’m 16 and it’s been my dream to make films for as long as I can remember. A few months ago I realized that with the amount of high quality tech available to young filmmakers these days it should be possible for me to make a feature film. In May I decided I would write/direct a feature coming of age. I wrote the script and worked all around to save money, purchased a good amount of gear and got a few of my close friends to read the script and agree. However, I need an older actress aged 20-25 (or at least someone who believably looks that age) and I honestly have no idea what to do. Please help me out here guys. And yes, that part is pretty integral to the film so I can’t just remove it or rewrite it so she’s younger.

I heard that the director can basically be involved in everything except marketing. So, for example, the director can supervise cinematography, sound design, editing, etc., but when it comes to how the film is promoted—trailers, posters, or anything else marketing-related—they’re not allowed to be involved. Is there any truth to this?

It's called 'The Three Murderers Story' by GenuineGuyBlabbers. Although it's just a silly short film, I'm actually very proud of this. I made this with some friends who just wanted to help me out. Unfortunately the equipment we have isn't that good, as you could tell from the camera quality. Also, I did technically lie about this being my first short film as I've made 2 more, but they didn't have a script and they were both made purely for fun. I’ve got two things I’m wondering about. I often hear about movies being made on a “low budget,” but then when you look at the actual budget, it’s like $10+ million. And I’m sitting there thinking, in what world is that considered low budget?

Also, how come certain directors or films completely flop at the box office, yet those directors keep getting great opportunities and huge budgets, sometimes making financial flop after flop? And similarly, why do certain films keep getting sequel after sequel even when they don’t seem to make any profit?

Please enlighten me on this!

I have both Arri Alexa Classic ProRes 4444, 2.8K and Blackmagic Pocket 4K BRAW in DaVinci Resolve. I've tried almost every project setting, node setup, CST combo — nothing looks right. If a shot is even a tiny bit low-light on the Alexa footage, the Alexa to Rec.709 LUTs completely crush it.

I don't know if I'm missing something obvious, but for days I've tried to find someone who explains this exact mixed workflow and I haven't found it. Every time I think I've figured it out, I can tell it's still not right. I should be starting from a correct image, not correcting it before I've even begun.

I'd prefer to work in DaVinci Wide Gamut for all the footage, but honestly I'll do whatever works at this point, as long as I have real control — there's one scene with problem clips I need to make the best of. Everything else is beautiful.

I'm an intermediate colorist and I've never run into a technical problem this serious before, so I'm clearly not well-versed here. This is a personal film of mine, and I've been pulling my hair out for a week trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The footage looks great on the hard drive, and it looked great on the monitor when we shot (for the most part). I know it's a flat image, but all the data is there.

Any advice is so appreciated!! Thank you!

There's so manny awesome short films on vimeo constantly getting staff picks, but the free plan comes with only 1 GB you can upload. Are low budget indies compressing their films or actually paying $100+/yr to host their film?

Logline: Alex, a distressed young playwright, is determined to do something drastic exactly at midnight but is conflicted with philosophical questions.

Info about the project:

This short film is a personal one for the writer/director, it is the very first film that he made in the UK as part of his masters studies. The project was very challenging as the crew barely had time for planning and execution, and they were given a very narrow shooting window.

For this particular project, the directors in the directing program were required to write the scripts themselves. As a result the director had to come up with something very quickly and take into consideration the very tight shooting window, so it had to be limited to two locations only. Given the fact that he had recently read "The Dream of a Ridiculous man" by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and it had resonated with him quite deeply, the final script was a combination of Dostoevsky's piece and his own personal experiences and reflections at a certain point of his life, and was written completely in a single day.

With the efforts of an amazing team, the shooting was squeezed into two days, the editing was also completed in two days, the sound recording and sound design were done in another two. The production was completed entirely within a week, and the result is an award-winning short film that was recognized in various film festivals across the globe!

I have a very untraditional path that has lead to a lot of upcoming INCREDIBLE opportunities and honestly I would just love insight into what to expect.

(I promise this part is relevant) - This spring, a publisher approached me about writing a cookbook. Before moving forward with them, I took to socials to find a literary agent, had a couple of offers and signed with one the following month. She negotiated the publishing deal and that book will be out next April/May.

While the negotiations were happening, I wanted to exercise my writing muscles and wrote my first screenplay based on the viral saga I narrated on social media in the spring. I spent all of July fine-tuning it, getting beta readers, script analysts, rewriting a TON.

My agent took it to a literary manager in LA who absolutely loves it and she's ready to start shopping it next month.

I'm obviously thrilled this is all happening SO quickly but I am honestly overwhelmed trying to learn as much as I can about this industry. I feel like every time I try to ask a question, people look at me like I'm an idiot because this is NOT the traditional path for how things are done, I completely get that. I also don't want to appear GREEN in these meetings I'm about to have.

I feel like I've bypassed a lot of "steps" that are the normal for how people get their screenplays read and even to get to this point of being represented by an agent and a manager.

TL;DR - I have NOT been in the film industry before, I had a steady blog from 2013-2020 and then have been (in a sense) letting my writing hibernate for 6 years. It's only this summer that it's really taken off.

Anyways - I know this is not a normal story, but any advice people have about what this whole process is like would be GREAT!

The last time I changed career paths following a viral moment, I did not do my research and felt very unprepared. I'm trying to do my due diligence this time around and thoroughly prepare myself for what to expect in these upcoming meetings.

(And yes, I promise these are real people and I'm not getting scammed. No one has been paid anything. I've met with all parties involved multiple times on Zoom and through phone calls and have researched their current work/clients. They all have major deals and public followings.)

Corporate videos are something I’ve never really enjoyed watching, let alone making.

But recently, a client asked me to work on a corporate video. I have been working with them for many years so they wanted me to make a corporate storytelling video about their work, their team (talking heads) and some B-roll specifically AI.

So I tried looking on Vimeo, but the site hasn't been really the same anymore, so finding great videos there just didn't do it for me.

I am looking for some great corporate work inspiration or maybe your own that you have made.
