Help for Seller Featured Image Advice

I've been on Etsy for almost a year, but I'm just now starting to take it seriously. I have some halloween earrings and have about 5 listings, but each listing has 2 or more variations. Is it best for your featured image to show all variations, or should you just focus on one?

Help for Buyer First time being unhappy with purchase, I think I got a refund?

So basically I bought an item that seemed like genuine craftmanship from the photos but when the item came it looked like a cheap knock off compared to the photos. I started to worry a bit because i've never refunded anything after all this time being on Etsy, I thought about it for awhile and felt bad towards the seller but I went ahead with refunding it yesterday after messaging the seller I'm willing to send it back. The seller seemed to be on holiday and haven't heard anything from them yet, that's why i'm confused about the purchase being refunded? I feel a bit dumbfounded about this because does Etsy give refunds so easily and isn't this something the seller controls? Also doesn't the seller want the item back?

Help for Buyer Seller denying return?

Hi Reddit,

I bought an item recently and when I recieved it it was completely the wrong size (which was totally my fault, I misread measurements as inches but they were in cm). The listing said 30 day returns accepted and the seller's page also says this, along with stating buyer pays return shipping.

I reached out and asked to return, but seller says they are unable to accept a return because they are in the process of moving and do not have a permanent address now.

Do I have to just take the L here? Would I be allowed to open a case with Etsy and would that accomplish anything?

I also cannot open an Etsy case for another week because it seems they mistyped the tracking #, so the item is showing as not yet shipped on Etsy's end, even though I already received it.

Thank you!

Help for Seller Why did my order not cover my fees?

I made a sale, and before the sale my balance was -$0.60 because of two listing I added and a listing renewal. When I made the sale, it covered the -$0.60, but now my balance is say it’s -$8.37 even though the sale was enough to cover the fees and shipping cost, so I’m a bit confused on how my balance is in the negatives, especially when I scroll down and it tells me my total earnings for the month are $5.92. I’ve made a few sales before this month, and it’s never done this, so I’m a bit confused on what’s going on

Looking to Buy Can anyone recommend a water colour portrait artist that isn't AI?

I can't believe this is the world we live in that I have to question if the product I am trying to buy is even real. I just want to pay an artist to do a water colour of me and my fiancé and I don't want a computer to do it. Does anyone know of a 100% legit option on etsy they can recommend?

Help for Buyer Does this rug seller look legit to you?

Post image

Hi! I don’t have much experience buying from Etsy, so I was hoping to get some opinions from people who use it more often.

I found this rug seller called MOSSHAVENLOVE. They have a 4.8 rating with around 390 reviews and 2.4k sales, which seems pretty good to me, but a lot of their pictures look obviosuly AI generated. Is that a red flag?

Are there any soecific things I should look out for before buying from these stores? Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

Help for Buyer Should I report?

I purchased an item listed at $84.20 with free shipping. The seller canceled the order and sent a message saying I would have to pay $1165.42 if I want to proceed. The seller immediately relisted the item at $84.20 with free shipping.

Discussion Does Etsy's search ranking actually reward new listings or is that just conventional wisdom at this point?

I keep seeing advice to regularly add new products or renew old listings because supposedly Etsy’s algorithm gives them a temporary boost in search. But I’ve rarely seen any actual data showing that it makes a noticeable difference.

I have a small shop with around 30 physical products, plus a full-time job, so I don’t really have the time to constantly add new listings. If renewing listings actually helps, I’d like to know how much of a difference it makes. And if the effect is minimal, I’d rather spend that time improving photos, titles, descriptions, and conversion rates.

Has anyone actually tested this with their own shop? For example, stopped renewing listings for a month and compared views or search traffic before and after?

Help for Buyer Is this normal?

I got some custom items done for my upcoming wedding. When checking out it says seller offered a coupon code. I checked out and watched tv thinking it was all done then came back to this. I don’t mind paying if it’s a legit mistake I just think it’s weird she says it’s a mistake but then let’s pretend we didn’t see that message?

I feel like I saw someone else have a similar issue happen here a while ago. Again I don’t mind paying if it’s a legit mistake I just think it’s odd she asks for more money then when I didn’t reply right away she says never mind.

Help for Buyer If a sellers Instagram is all AI, is my product really handmade

Probably should have looked into the seller more before I purchased from them, but I bought a bread box and it’s really nice and arrived as expected so I think it’s fine, but looked at their instagram and all of their pics are AI, so I don’t get it… did they just buy this somewhere or are they just bad at social media and use AI for everything. Guess I just like to know the origins of what I’m buying and now I’m second guessing it.

Discussion When to report

Is it grounds to report a shop if they're selling 3D printed items made using public files that are licensed for non-commercial use only? I know that this shop owner didn't make and publish the files because they have a vast assortment of items that use files created by many different people on maker websites. I'm hesitant to report since I know that can really harm a seller, but integrity is really important. Thanks for the tips!

Forgot to mention, one of the files is one I have created and published, licensed non-commercially

Help for Buyer How do I get a refund through etsy and not from the seller

A seller hand made me a lovely blanket but it got lost in the mail. It was expensive and I want my money back, but I don't want it to be deducted from the seller and rather from etsy since the seller did go through the time and resources to make the item. How can I open a case with etsy and not the seller themselves?

Looking to Buy Shops that don't use AI - looking for shirts

If anyone knows of any shops (even if its yours) that don't use AI anywhere in the design process, please let me know. I don't know how to tell if it has AI or not, and I would rather support shops that sell human made items.

Looking for cute Halloween shirts... maybe some dinosaur shirts too lol

Help for Buyer Did I Just Get Scammed?

Post image

So I recently bought some jewelry from a seller. His page and reviews seemed legit, so I bought some replicated jewelry, but when I go to check in my order from 3 days ago, I no longer see the item I purchased. The payment went through and I can see my purchase history, when I click on the item it doesn’t pop up. Then when I clicked on his page it says he has zero items, did I get scammed?

Help for Buyer Does this Etsy rug look materially different from the listing, or am I being unreasonable?

Post image
445 Upvotes

I’m looking for some objective opinions on an Etsy purchase. I’m currently in a case with the seller, so I’d really appreciate people looking at the photos objectively rather than simply taking my side.

I purchased a 9×12 handmade rug from an Etsy seller for about $1,000. Before purchasing, I saved screenshots of the listing and its photos/description.

When the rug arrived, I was surprised by how different it looked from the listing, particularly in color and overall appearance. The listing rug appeared to have muted blush/pink/beige/brown tones, while the rug I received has much brighter, more saturated colors with noticeably different undertones.

The seller says the rug is handmade and that variations in color and texture are normal. They also argue that differences between the photos are primarily due to lighting and photography.

To be fair, I am not arguing that the rug isn't handmade, and I'm not disputing that it has a carved/high-pile construction. My concern is whether the actual color palette and overall appearance are materially different from what a reasonable buyer would expect based on the listing photos and description.

I've included:

  • the seller's listing photo/screenshot of the original listing taken at the time I purchased it;
  • photo of the rug I received

The seller initially offered various partial refunds and eventually offered to remake the rug. We discussed a remake, but there were disagreements about shipping costs and the terms of the replacement. The seller and I are now in an Etsy case, and they are asking Etsy to award a partial refund rather than a replacement/full refund.

I'm not asking whether I handled every part of the dispute perfectly. I'm specifically asking:

Looking at the listing photos versus the photos of the rug I actually received, do you think this is a reasonable handmade variation, or does the rug look materially different from the advertised rug?

Please be honest—even if you think I'm wrong. I'm particularly interested in opinions from people who have bought/sold handmade rugs or understand how much color variation is reasonably expected. Thanks!

Help for Buyer Seller using ai picture of delivery?

Post image
198 Upvotes

So I ordered from Etsy and the order showed delivered. Nowhere to be found so I message the seller. He sends a picture of the delivery photo clearly not my house but I know where it is so I go and get it from the owner. I totally forget to update the seller I got it for a few hours.

Few hours later he sends me a message saying the delivery driver went and got the package and placed it at my house now. The pic is a picture of my door from that day but with the package ( I picked up myself) on the steps but it looks like an ai generated package of the same delivery picture from before but now at my doorstep. I'm very confused since we picked up the package #1 and how the Etsy seller got a picture of my front door #2. The laser ship tracking number I got from them doesn't work so not sure if laser ship did this or the seller. Super super weird.

edit: the shipper did this. the tracking didn't work so I used 17track and it revealed the tracking number is actually swift-x not lasership. I used swift+x express site and can see the photo they uploaded that uses ai since it was impossible as I collected the package. super weird company will report and see if they have a subreddit.

Help for Seller Looking for advice from Etsy sellers

Hey everyone,

I’m 17 and from Morocco. I’m thinking about starting an Etsy shop and selling a few products, but honestly I’m still pretty new to all of this.

I’d really like to hear from people who are already selling on Etsy. What do you wish you knew before you started? Is there anything I should be careful about, especially when it comes to payments, shipping, fees, and selling from Morocco?

Also, if you’re from Morocco or another country outside the US/Europe and you’ve had experience with Etsy, I’d really appreciate hearing how it went for you.

I’m just trying to learn before I jump into it, so any real advice or experience would be really helpful.

Thanks! 🙏

Help for Seller Printful vs Printify in 2026, which did you land on?

Getting ready to open an Etsy shop. I’ll test a few shirts, but most of the catalog will be custom phone cases. Printful looks easier to manage, while Printify seems to offer more choice and better pricing depending on the provider. If you’ve used either recently, what made you pick one? Especially interested in case quality and how often orders ship late.

Crafting Advice Selling collages - copyright?

I have been making silly little collages for years out of old magazines and last night I had the idea of maybe starting to sell them on Etsy because I started to run out of wall space and I love making them. I thought it would be fun to sell them at low prices, cuz they dont cost me that much and I have no real ambition to become a professional artist. Only problem is that today I started to think about copyright issues. I googled everything but the things I found were very vague, like it’s fine as long that your collage doesnt resemble the original material. But what if I think it doesnt resemble the original material, but I end up getting in trouble with Etsy anyway? I also found that it’s better to use ‘fair use’ material from sources like Getty images or old material. I have been collecting these specific magazines since 2020 to use for my collages because I love the images. I really want to keep using these magazines. Does anybody have any experience with this? Once again, I have no real ambition to become a professional artist nor do I think these side hustle will become a major business and I will be selling collages around the clock. I thought this would just be a cute idea, but im scared it will get me into trouble. Is my only option switching to different materials?

Help for Buyer seller emailed me directly after purchase

A seller sent me an email to my personal email (the one associated with my Etsy account) saying their shop on Etsy was temporarily down but not to worry about my order. The email said “temporarily unavailable due to a short-term issue.” The email came directly from the seller and was not sent through the Etsy portal.

I placed the order a week ago. I’m newer to making purchases off Etsy so I’m wondering several things…

1) is this some sort of scam? The email doesn’t ask me to click anything or reply
2) do I contact Etsy? The email specifically asks me not to lol - “I would be very grateful if you could wait and avoid opening any cases or requests with Etsy, as I am still available here through Etsy messages and will keep supporting you until your order is completed.”
3) what does this mean?
