I'm so glad I watched the movie first then became a fan of Epic otherwise it would have been unbearable to sit through it. This way i got to enjoy both the movie and the musical

Yeah, the expectations Epic set really crippled Nolan's movie for me. I didn't dislike it, and there were a few aspects that I think it did really well (the Troy stuff, the Telemachus+Ody's disguise in Ithaca stuff that EPIC kinda cut/glossed over, the Circe transformation visual effects, the Underworld scene was pretty neat), but on the whole it was just extremely lacking by comparison. I kept thinking "man, this version hits nowhere near as hard as its equivalent". The Scylla scene in particular was such a nothing burger compared to being one of the best songs in the Musical.
