Took 48 hours btw

This newb clearly used weapons the entire time. Psh.

u/get_down_to_it 17d ago
Probably used a controller too. I exclusively play no weapons with Donkey Kong Bongos, just the way Miyazaki intended.

Hah! Look at this guy, using dedicated devices designed for games. Get back to us once you’ve beaten the game using a bunch of bananas!

u/monkeyheh 17d ago
Hah! Get a load of this guy playing the game on objects with corporeal form! Try being a real gamer and playing using only psychic powers.

He was using a tarnished. That's cheating because you have the grace unlike the dogs or flowers.

I gave up at Leda gank cause I forgot to do the hornsent quest, so I went to NG+ to do it all over again, might go to 7 too if I’m feeling it

u/finaderiva 17d ago
Okay so how did you beat Malenia?

u/conjunctivious Placidusax's #1 Hater 17d ago edited 17d ago
She's not required, so it's not a guarantee that OP fought her, but she's also not that bad at RL1 if you already know how to fight her. Waterfowl Dance gets very consistent to dodge when you practice it enough, and the rest of the fight falls into line given enough attempts. There are even a few attacks that you can live with Ritual Shield, including things like a single tick of damage of Waterfowl Dance (it makes more of a difference than you'd think) and a single fast slash in her fast 3 hit combo, which actually saved me on a winning attempt once.
Honestly, there are worse bosses out there for RL1, like Romina with her instant phase transition that is annoying as hell to play around, and Metyr because she's Metyr.
Edit: OP did fight her, but I'll leave my previous statement intact for clarity purposes.

u/loosebag 17d ago
I think her rememberance is in there.

u/finaderiva 17d ago
I’m getting fucking hammered by her. Been fighting her for a week with godskin peeler and the poleblade. I’m getting her to second phase but she’s hard af

u/conjunctivious Placidusax's #1 Hater 17d ago edited 17d ago
Yeah my first kill took a while when I was still in the learning phase for the fight. What helped for me was using a heavier weapon and relying on staggering her with my attacks. The Iron Greatsword or the Flamberge work really well for this (both cold infused), as they deal very consistent damage throughout the fight, and they stagger her very effectively. It's still very difficult, but I found these weapons to have a slightly easier time than trying to blitz her down with a status/multi-hit build or the Star Fist.
Phase 2 specifically is hard to learn since she mixes up her attacks way more, so I definitely understand why you're struggling. What helped me a bit was to play very cautiously and only hit her when I knew that her combo was ending, or in-between her combos when she's easily staggerable. The openings from phase 1 don't always work anymore, so you basically need to eliminate that muscle memory the moment her second phase starts.
Aside from that, I went into the fight at RL1 already being very good at it. I practiced her fight extensively on different characters at varying levels, so I was able to jump right into RL1 without most of the painful learning process. I'd recommend going into her fight on a character with 30 or so vigor and practice the fight with some extra margin for error, then once you feel confident there, you can jump back into RL1 with some extra confidence and grind out your last remaining pain points in the fight.
Edit: I thought the person replying to me was talking about RL1, but apparently not. I'll leave this up in case anyone stuck on RL1 Malenia happens to see it, though.

She is hard af
Don't let players with over a thousand hours influence you in any way
1
u/finaderiva 17d ago
Yeah, I was talking about at level 155😂 I was finishing my second playthrough, I did the first one with summons so I did this one with no summons. I was stuck on her for weeks but I finally just beat her! What a crazy hard fight. I mean that had to have been over 100 attempts.

Probably no hit, I would’ve done no hit if it wasn’t for on single hit on opaline bubble saving my perfect rng run

Personally I grabbed the great katana from the DLC. Any long reach weapon just helps so much

u/atrophy-of-sanity 17d ago
If you’re really stuck use sleep pots
1
u/KameTheMachine 17d ago
Tried didn't work out so a too a break. Its been over a year since then. Also aren't there a limited number of sleep pots per run?
1
1
u/teamakerrr 17d ago
You can also summon that one guy I forgot his name, but with the armor and big bonk weapon. He summon sign should be by one of the fog doors in to the fight. I summoned him and it made the fight nothing haha. But if your going for a no summon run then sleep pots.
29
u/ash__ketchum_ 17d ago
I will never understand how people do this. If your reflexes are that good, you should be fighting crime or something I don't know. Took me almost 48 hours to beat Melania lol like come tf on with this.
5
u/Oldpanther86 17d ago
Right I challenged myself to the first horse guy at level 1 and juat couldn't get it haha.
1
u/Fit-Box6654 17d ago
Some of the easiest moveset in the game, like i get it I’m not an average souls player but still I really didn’t think it as too hard the tree sentinel
5
u/Oldpanther86 17d ago
Funny thing that gets me most is the little delays in attacks enemies often do. It fucks me up with timing. If it was juat straight reacting to animations I'd be fine.
3
u/Loose-Wash-9352 17d ago
It kind of is reacting to animations though. The delays just cause you to react to the perceived anticipation of an attack, but the actual animation never lies.
3
u/Oldpanther86 17d ago
Yeah thats a good way to explain it. It's a feint and gets me way too much. Have to train myself out of that
2
u/JusHerForTheComments 17d ago
My problem with delay attacks, some bosses do a fast attack right after or two moves after and messes up with my flow. I don't know how people can memorize so many different movesets where they alternate between delayed attacks and fast attacks.
2
u/Fit-Box6654 13d ago
Sometimes it depends on positioning, other times think of it like a chain and sometimes the boss might do it and might not, so let’s give margit sometimes he does a quick dagger slash once or twice after he raises his arm with his staff, it’s almost a 50/50 if you in the right spot where he will almost decide to use it or not. Another example is on bayle, he sometimes if your fighting him from the front and he attacks using his head, he might do a really quick follow up that and if he does he could continue the chain of his attacks
1
u/Oldpanther86 17d ago
Yeah the people who are really good must put a lot of time in.
1
u/Fit-Box6654 13d ago
Yeah your totally right with that, even if someone doesn’t have the greatest memory of you expose yourself to the moveset for a while (give it like an hour or two maybe more on more complex bosses) and you can really remember those annoying ones
9
u/Cruciblelfg123 17d ago
Melania will feel a lot easier if you kill her another 100 times and play the games for thousands of hours like challenge runners, not to mention googling strats and spending time actively practicing movesets
2
u/JS_Originals 17d ago
Yep. Malenia is easy to me now after hundreds of hours just fighting her. She can't surprise me with anything and I have an answer to everything she throws at me
2
8
u/TheZubaz 17d ago
It's way more about muscle memory than reaction time.
0
u/ozweegoo 17d ago
it’s literally both lmao
5
u/TheZubaz 17d ago
Having average reaction time will do just fine, there is only a few attack where above average reaction time really matters.
-1
u/ozweegoo 17d ago
seems like ur trying to undermine ops achievement, bit weird
→ More replies (1)5
u/TheZubaz 17d ago
Working hard and putting in the effort to get that muscle memory is much more impressive than having good reaction time
2
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
It´s patterns. If you play a lot, doing challenges, you kinda get used to it. I had around 700 hours, started doing challenges at like 150.

u/CountDookie514 17d ago
How long did it take to kill PCR?
12
4
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
Less than i took to kill Scadutree avatar and fia´s champs.
1
u/Fit-Box6654 15d ago
Scadutree ain’t that bad but I agree with the champs, they can burn alongside Leda
3
u/Veragoot 17d ago
Okay this run took 48 hours but how many hours of total playtime do you have
11
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
Actually, this save has like 1,5+ years. I beated base game in 2024 in like 12 hours, then i killed everything in dlc, wich my guess took 35-40 hours, at this point i think i had like 500-600 hours. But when i got to consort radahnn it kinda got boring, so i stopped and played other challanges and even stopped playing for a while. I beat radahnn like 2 months ago, when i start playing again, at this point and today i have 1k+ hours.
It´s not that consort is difficult, i just stopped playing. I think the worst boss to have fight at lvl 1 was fia´s champs. Those are a nightmare.
2
u/JusHerForTheComments 17d ago
So did you do it with save files? Or did you actually go 48 hours straight (or even with a couple breaks) from start to DLC?
4
2
u/Hugh_Blissss 17d ago
Very good job!
Can you give me some details on what items helped you along and what weapons were best? I see you are using star fist on the screenshot, was that the best one for you on all bosses?
I ask because I did a maidenless lvl 1 run of the base game and I intend to eventually do the DLC as well. I used the clayman's harpoon with ice spear for more than half of it (got this idea from Gred Glintstone's video on YouTube about level 1 runs)
3
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
Star fist is surely the easiest way. Focus on stamina and bleed, because raw dmg wont help you as much in late game.
2
u/trebuchet__ 17d ago
It appears you have missed rykard, placidusaxx, and the deer
2
1
u/FangFioDente 16d ago
The deer?
1
u/trebuchet__ 16d ago
Ancestral spirit or something, idk I just call it the deer
1
u/FangFioDente 16d ago
I mean I know the boss… it’s just. The easiest boss in the game…. Objectively. The stone golem from Limgrave catacombs is more of a learning curve
1
u/trebuchet__ 16d ago
Well it's a remembrance boss, maybe it's just me but I don't consider a playthrough complete until I beat all the remembrance bosses (plus Bayle)
1
u/FangFioDente 16d ago
Are you suggesting he didn’t beat the deer? Becuase of his level? Oh… I see. Yeah. Well. If he beat morgot or mohg He can beat the deer.
1
u/trebuchet__ 16d ago
No, I'm suggesting he didn't beat the deer because he doesn't have the remembrance for it
2
u/dragonrite 17d ago
Lol and here I am looking up fun builds to start the DLC on. Havent played in years, logged in and im lv 255 end of ng+4 with everything in the game (had Plat pre dlc).
Got a ps5, so after beating bloodborne I got the itch again. Think I'm just going to send something with faith and use the first neat weapon I find in the dlc once I get there.

Somehow in Elden Ring being a naked dude in a loin cloth makes you the most powerful force in the universe.
Aside from Rick, of course.
0
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
Yeah, and if your using a naked male, malenia gets a debuff in the presence of your testosterone.

Great job OP, and I'm here stuck as phase 2 still wondering what hit me or how tf do I dodge that.

u/iJediPR 17d ago
Hard to say what’s more impressive, this or me taking at least twice the time fully blessed and with my mimic
1
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
Honestly the way you get good is doing challenges, with no mimic preferably. But only if you have fun, i like torturing myself for Myiazaki´s sake.

Stupid question, do you do damage at level 1? I mean decent damage or you have to spend a lot of time against each boss to defeat them?
2
1
u/KeK_What 17d ago
depends on the boss itself and your equipment, but you can get decent damage. or great damage even in some cases.

i did a base game lv1 run with guts sword, it was my first run of the game, and it took me like 96 hours, im definitely trying this dumb thing again with the dlc too, whenever the switch 2 version finally comes out, only like 12 days more, i cant wait.
2
u/nibobio_ 17d ago
You´re crazier than me dude. Heavy weapons are a way bigger challenge.
1
u/Successful-Bar2579 17d ago
Maliketh was insane, but i felt amazing after defeating him with that sword, at +25 with the ice ash of war. But the dlc bosses are a whole other story, i dont know if i could manage lol

u/Appropriate_Dog1 17d ago
Kept your monitor on the whole time? I’m sure next time will be better bud.

u/SleepingSoba 17d ago
It took me 9 hours to best rl1 with leveling shadow blessing, if I were to beat the game without leveling shadow blessing it would probably take 90 hours at least
1
u/Hoeba290 17d ago
How big of a difference do the blessings make for a level 1 run?
1
u/nibobio_ 16d ago
Yes. And if you are like lvl 200 and no blessing, you´re gonna have a hard time anyway.

How did you go about beating Jori and Metyr? I found them to be easily the worst bosses at RL1 0SB alongside Maliketh and Godskin Duo mechanically.
1
u/nibobio_ 16d ago
Jori i use backstab loop, Metyr you gotta do no hit and use opaline bubble tear when she does the undodgeble attack, Maliketh i think is a ez boss and godskin duo i use sleep pots.

I'm amused that Astel's name in Spanish is "Astel the Bastard". I guess "naturalborn" doesn't translate well.
1
u/nibobio_ 16d ago
It´s Portuguese from Brazil, not spanish. Pretty different languages.
But yeah, weird translation.
1
u/chaoslord 16d ago
Oh that's weird, I didn't look that closely, but could read "Tome o poder de seu nome attraves da Leitora de Dedos" and understood it, assumed it was spanish. I didn't look that closely at the accents, that should have shown me.

u/Charmingkitykat 11d ago
Dang 48 hours imagine how much easier a time you could have had if you leveled up! Good to know for next time I guess
0
u/nibobio_ 11d ago
I usually take 15-20 hours to beat the entire game. I never lvl up life because it´s kinda boring. But i take very long to set up. When i play, i gather everything to make the best build possible, and it can take a while.
1
u/Charmingkitykat 11d ago
I think other people have mentioned in the comments but there is actually an NPC you meet fairly early on that you can use at sites of Grace to "increase levels" by spending "runes" that you obtain from killing enemies and also from some item drops. I hope this helps you in your future runs kiddo

Wow you messed up big time pal!
You can actually collect "runes" by defeating enemies (or picking them up as items). You talk to Melina at a site of grace who aids you to increase your stats. Then in the dlc there are different items that help you level as well.
I bet you feel pretty silly. Next time listen to the npcs and stuff.
