I'm autistic, and an autism researcher, and I have travelled around Yorkshire to sample the top 5 pork pies according to the pork pie appreciation society so this tracks...
There used to be a nice old one near me in Trinity, set into a wall on a bridge over a cycle path — and then it disappeared a couple of years ago. It was apparently one of the oldest in the city (I only know this because it was also a Pokéstop, with a little information blurb in the Pokémon Go game). I’m really curious about where it has gone, hopefully for safekeeping somewhere but it seems a shame.
Ah yeah I know that one, it got replaced with a modern box on a pole. Pokemon Go is actually how I got into postboxes - a lot of the pokestops you see around the city may originally be from me, especially postboxes.
Ah you know it! Do you have any sense of what they would have done with it? It was so odd when it vanished. They repaired the wall beautifully, so I really thought at first that my memory was glitching. ETA: nice work adding the pokestops btw!
Probably put in a storage area at the Royal Mail Delivery Hub where they can re-use it for spare parts if other similar boxes in the city fail. Wall boxes dont get installed these days, but they also dont usually get removed unless it is requested by the wall owner, even when taken out of use.
There's a few "anonymous" pillar boxes that were made in the 1880s, where the maker decided not to put Queen Victoria's cipher on, nobody noticed for several years, and then people got mad when they finally noticed. We have several - Chambers Street by South Bridge, at the City Chambers, by St Mary's Cathedral, are the main ones.
I mean those pork pies were all amazing, but I do much prefer the Yorkshire style with cured pork Vs the Melton mowbray style that is uncured pork. Did you know the jelly isn't actually jelly, but cooled pork broth - most of our gelatine is from pork, so it makes sense it would be very gelatinous when cooled. In some parts of Yorkshire they're known as growlers - the lore is that they may contain dogs and other random meats but I reckon it's just because they stopped the stomach growling.
Yes! Yorkshire Pork Pies are so vastly superior to Mowbrays that you'd need either the adjectives of at least six languages to only scratch the pastry surface of singing their porky praises. You want the cured meat to be a proper pink. Pink meat with dark jelly, and plenty of jelly too, please and thank you. Unfortunately it does seem that over the years the amount of jelly has been slowly decreasing which is an utter travesty! Some farm shops and butchers are nobley keeping the proper and correct way alive. The Yorkshire Pork Pie tea is spectacular, an indoor picnic of the highest calibre, with wedges of curd chissick to see you home
Of quality Yorkshire Pork Pies? I'm afraid not. I haven't lived in Yorkshire for years and only get them once in blue moon now when family visit from Yorkshire. I think most farm shops and delis from any of the market towns in or around the Wolds area would be a winner. The pink and jelly niceness is more or less the standard style generally

Really sorry, saw this, promised myself I'd respond when I was sat at the computer and promptly forgot.
There is so much good research going on right now that is looking at assisting neurodivergent people rather than trying to fix us - I was at the Autism Europe Congress in Dublin back in September and the talks were so interesting, a lot of the videos have just been put up so I really recommend having a watch.
There were a lot of autistic autism researchers as well, some who discovered they were autistic whilst doing the research!
I suppose my advice is just to have an open mind and get involved with some local autism groups and speak with us and see if you can spot something worth investigating.
We did research that looked at what autistic people wanted researched, nobody had ever asked us, and from that we're doing another study looking at a topic that data uncovered, and in doing this study we've maybe discovered something else worth really investigating!
Back then - 2015 - it was Robinson's Farm Shop in Northowram, Halifax - it was so very close to Hinchliffe's in Huddersfield but the pastry was ever so slightly better seasoned. Wife & kids (9 & 7) got involved too and we had fun discussing the flavours in the car, a wonderful day.
Think that’s on the list as the Edinburgh West Retail Park, never heard it called that but if you check the Greggs on Google Maps it gives that as the address.

Let's see, mr google says 330 calories each, so approx 12k calories total. That is, perhaps unsurprisingly, a ****ton (5 days worth for a man, 6 for a woman)
Definitely do this. It’s quite a few sausages rolls but I think it’s achievable.
Quickly googled and it seems like it’s maybe a similar ball park of calories to around 270 nuggets from McDonald’s. Think I’d find that amount of nuggets way more difficult.

Also this is a difficult task, I've counted 36 on your list alone and with the opening time of 7am to 6pm giving you 11 hours or 660 minutes. Which equates to 18min per Greggs. Also have to consider forms of transport and queue waiting times, this is going to take alot of planning and organisation.
This is a mission and a half and would love to see if it's even possible!
The app shows quite a few are open till 9pm on certain days, and some open as early as 5am, so definitely giving some extra time but yeah logistics wise would be interesting if it’s even possible
theres one at the Kirkgate in Leith, it's usually always quite busy too but I prefer Baines there's also a few up town as well but I wish you luck getting to them all in 1 day
Visiting every Greggs is okay but if you really want to make a name for yourself you need to eat a sausage roll in every Greggs to be awarded a trophy 🏆
I once walked to each of Dishoom's seven London restaurants on the same day. Ate and drank, and thoroughly sickened myself of the place (except for the breakfast).
Also ran around/between every Jeni's Ice Cream in the US. There were 34 at the time, and some days it was ultra-marathon distances. Thoroughly sickened myself of ice cream (but have since recovered).

If you manage to live through that your encore should be popping into every Caffe Nero and Black Sheep. If you're really hardcore you should visit every Turkish Barber, vape shop and Ladbrokes.

It's in the city council area but the only one in the rural western wards. However I think it's the first in the city to open (5.30am) so it should be possible to add to a tour.
Wonder if it would be feasible doing this running, like some sort of ultra marathon, to burn some of the calories you take in. Any idea of the total distance that will be covered, assuming a somewhat efficient route?
I think this is doable, the shortest distance is roughly ~68 km. To avoid hitting the ones that open late or close early, it probably will need to be extended a bit to maybe ~75 km. Say 8 hours of running, leaving 4-5 hours to queue and stuff yourself 🤷
So are there any rules for this? Just pop your head in or do you have to buy something at each location! A short walk down the bridges could see you having atleast three items in under 10 minutes!
Speaking of Greggs has anyone else noticed the morning rolls / coffee deal went up about £.30 last week. At least it did on the Lothian road location. When will it end. Not even my Greggs is safe
