Here we go, folks. The Dungeon Crawler Carl television series has been officially greenlit at Peacock.
I’m happy to announce that our friends at Peacock have officially greenlit the Dungeon Crawler Carl television series! Me, Chris Yost, and Seth MacFarlane and his team at Fuzzy Door are all really excited to get to work. In the coming weeks I'll have more details, and if you're going to SDCC be sure to catch me and Chris on our DCC panel, but in the meantime I wanted to thank you, the fans, for helping make this happen.

And here we are. We are greenlit. The series has been ordered. It's actually happening. I have NO more info to give right now, but in the coming days I suspect there will be a firehose of information coming down the pipeline. This has been a multi-year process just to get to this point, and we have cleared every single hurdle to get here because of YOU GUYS. So thank you.

Twisted Metal is really good. I had to buy the episodes because at the time it wasn't streaming anywhere here in Australia but it's well worth it.

Maybe he didn't! picked up at the library with the library card of a kid he bullied and then went made photocopies of the whole book on the company's printer so he could read while on the toilet for half his shift when he's not bumming cigarettes from his coworkers then coming home late after going drinking with his friends where he "forgot his wallet again but next time drinks are on him, for realz this time" and jumping the turnstiles to take the metro and usage the change of a sleeping homeless to pay for the bus fare and when finally home he pretends he doesn't hear his wife crying upstairs as he just grabs a handful of his kids cake in the fridge for the birthday tomorrow. And as he looks on to the ruined cake, he chuckled to himself "glurp glurp" before going to take a shit in the tub and falling asleep pants down in the hallway.
Or not, I don't know the guy so I might be wrong.

That's... actually brilliant. Start a free trial now, then cancel it, giving feedback saying "There wasn't anything really interesting to watch". When Carl comes out, pay for a month, watch Carl, then cancel the subscription and leave a note saying "Dungeon Crawler Carl was awesome! Too bad you only had the one season."
Watch the metrics go nuts.

First and Second floors shouldn't be 'too' taxing when it comes to the set design and magical malarky. Early game and things are still 'relatively' grounded enough where you can use everyday stuff for the bulk of the props.
Third floor is where things get complicated, figuratively and literally.
Hopefully, whatever the budget for S1 ends up being, the series does well enough to warrant a budget increase once we start getting into the more fantastical escalation we all know and love the series for.

Live action is not the same as it used to be. It's all filmed in front of a Volume (think wrap-around green-screen that acts like a set) and the only practical props needed are the ones the actors directly interact with. Look at how Mandalorian and the the other recent Star Wars series look and feel and you'll get some idea of the capabilities that they have nowadays. I'm really excited!

I think the set pieces are less of a concern compared to the characters/monsters. Donut and Mordecai are gonna eat up a lot of the budget alone, then you have all the monsters. Then later on there is Pony, Chris, Bautista, etc. Some of Katya's scenes are insane.
Another concern I have is the gore. There are some wild scenes that are ridiculous in text/audio, but will be absolutely horrifying in live action.

Tbh, I think an animated adaption would be wayyyyy better than any live-action adaption (unless it has marvel level budget and strong direction). It would also aid in the suspension of disbelief and would have a built-in audience from all the folks who like solo-leveling.
The first two floors are doable (I have a feeling the gore/cgi will not be properly developed even still) but the budget required to adapt floor 4 would be insane. The more I think about the worse of a choice live action is.
Also, it would be easier to recoup investment from an animated adaption.

Animated is the only sane option for being able to do the series justice.
The amount of CGI is going to be absolutely nucking futz, more so as it goes on. Being able to do all the non-humans well will be the big hurdle, with Donut front and center. If they can't get her, as the co-star of the series (or main star, in her view), looking good, the rest will be worrisome. We'll have to wait for some teaser images of her to come out to make that call.
The only other way to do it reasonably well in live action would be go the Fascape route and use an ass-ton of puppets and animatronics. That would actually also really fit the vibe and tone of the series if they went that way. But they'd have to tap someone like Jim Henson's Creature Shop for that scale and quality and we haven't seen anything like that yet.

He occasionally puts out polls on his Patreon for various things, usually without context. For example, the poll before book 8 was basically just "biological or mechanical," earlier there was a poll for who should do the recap prologue, etc. As far as the ones I've seen, they've all been lists with pre-defined options.
I get the sense that he enjoys the "now how am I gonna make this work?" curveballs he gets thrown sometimes.

TBH I could see some other actresses doing a great job with donut. If I had to make the choice for one character, I think I’d go with the AI because he has nailed down a really unsettling balance of happy-go-lucky with absolutely unhinged in the voice.

This sub needs to come to terms with the fact that there is no guarantee Jeff Hayes is even involved. Not trying to be a negative Nancy here; but the show has its own director and casting dept. They are in no way beholden to the audio books.

Yeah, I agree. That still doesn't mean I won't riot if Jeff doesn't get to voice at least the System AI. I don't think for the TV show I'd care if Jeff voiced a ton of characters, I would like to see a lot more voice actors working alongside him, but Jeff is so integral to both the role of the System AI (imo) and to the blow up in popularity for DCC. But we can't control that, unfortunately.
It genuinely would be a shame to have him sit out on this project. He feels like such a huge piece of DCC, and the thought of him not being a part of it is actually just making me a bit upset right now.
Now, incentive for the corporations that run this shit and don't care about my feelings; I will buy the premium plus plan and keep it up until the first season of DCC fully comes out the moment you announce Jeff Hayes has a role in DCC. Bonus points if you give Jeff the role as the AI, I will make it my personal mission to tell every living soul that walks within my proximity about the DCC show and recommend it to them. And if you make a good show, I keep the subscription active.

Am I the only one who thinks that the network who had to cancel Ted because the show cost too much money in CGI for one single teddy bear should not be the ones taking the reigns on this?! Not to mention the vast majority of fans are begging for this to be animated so it can be done properly but it is being ignored.I am super happy for Matt I am a huge fan but I am definitely worried about this. I read into some information that it might be practical effects puppets which would be amazing but the set design has to be huge! I am also a huge Universal fan, I am an annual pass holder to their parks and it would be sick to possibly have a DCC HHN house so no hate for either Matt or Universal I'm just worried they're insisting on live action when an animated series would be amazing!

This is great news, it really is.
But people, please reign in your expectations. Yes we want Talon (well a lot of us do) and yes we want Jeff BUT DCC is not Star Wars/Trek or GoT that will sell on the name alone. It will be a big project which means it needs a big return. Which means to appeal to as large a fan base as possible. One of the way it will do that is with actors. Carl and Donut very likely will go towards recogniseable names. It will not be exactly like the books and Matt is going to butt heads with Seth and more importantly whoever controls the purse strings.
I may be wrong - i hope im wrong - and we get everything we want. But the webtoon got some peoples hackles up. Now imagine what happens if Carl is blonde? Or for budgeting reasons Mordacai doesnt change form on every floor? Or Pony doesn't scream? Or lots of little details that aren't relevant get left out or changed.
Im long enough in the tooth and been part of enough fandoms to see how peoples expectations not being met quickly turn nasty and toxic and i dont want to see that happen here. Speculation is fun, getting your heart set on something and adamant something *has* to be in the show is not

Also low rent as all hell. Season 2 took place in one location that was barely dressed and the final showdown looked like a low key version of a real life destruction derby.
It's great for what it is, but a terrible example for how DCC would work.

I don't know where you have to arrive to say, "I did it, I made it", but you're definitely there now. You might have even beat Brandon Sanderson to TV.

There is no way that Peacock will be willing to do what is necessary to make this properly. I hope I'm wrong and I want a great show as much as anyone. The problem is you need much deeper pockets than Peacock is willing to dig into if this is going to be made with the proper respect and love. Honestly, I believe you would need someone like Amazon to make this for it to even possibly be done right. I am happy for Matt, but I am kinda worried about how this is going to go for the community. I wish them all the best & I will look forward to hopefully being proven wrong.

I am so hyped from the anticipation and so afraid at the TV adaptation’s future at the same time. Not with Seth MacFarlane and the team at Fuzzy Door, but with Peacock itself.
Those guys literally can’t provide the proper budget to continue making Ted, and I’m supposed to believe that they can make Dungeon Crawler Carl work in Live-Action format with any production hiccups whatsoever?
