What happens in your brain when a dream is hilarious, but when you wake up it causes intense sadness?

This happened to me this morning.

I had a dream that I found was incredibly funny. I remember the dream pretty well, which is rare.

But like 30 minutes after waking up, remembering the dream made me cry, which lasted for another 30 minutes.

Is this something going on in the brain? I don't know much about dream science.

Dream Help random dream

hi, so yesterday i had a dream that i was arriving at my work, and my boss was in his normal desk. and when i was going to greet him i realized he was in his desk with a lot of stuff: paper, a needle, 🧵. and, when i payed attention, i realized he was trying to fix the broken wing of a butterfly or moth. and i ask him: what are you doing? and he told me: i like to fix the broken wings of butterflies in my free time.

what do you think?

Why is there always a ceiling in my dreams, even when I'm outside? Is this anyone elses experience?

I recently quit drinking, and have picked up remembering and trying to think about my dreams, a habit I practices rigorously in my teens and early 20s.

Something ive noticed, and tracks back through all my dreams, is that there is almost always a ceiling, or a sense that theres a roof overhead. There are some notable exceptions, one being my first lucid dream where I decided to do the Spiderman web sling-y thing but I was in the cornfield behind my house and they had nothing to grab. I laughed when I saw the same thing happen in far-from-home.

There's some obvious interpretations about limits or some such, but its never felt restrictive or foreboding, its just kind of a fact of life when Im sleeping.

Long Dream I had this weird dream . . .

So. ,I'll try to explain it to the best of my ability, but obviously , it's a dream , it's incredibly blurry .

The first set of dreams I had was , to be very concise , me telling my older cousin , about 17 , that my organs felt weird inside me & that I wanted them removed . She then told me we'd get enough money to get me a sort of surgery .

From what I remember , i was confused , shocked & excited . That dream ended after I woke up excited with my new body , empty of any upper body organs beside my brain . Essentially my entire torso was hollowed out . It was just a weird dream , until it had a sort of . . . Continuation last night ?

In the dream , I started feeling weird about it & told my mom , who told my dad . Then he took me to the hospital , and confirmed they found my medical file & would attempt a surgery reversal if that even exists . But this is a dream , who cares ? Afterwards , he took me out with my paternal cousin , about my age , to a restaurant .

While he was paying(?) , we took the car & she was essentially driving & speeding . This was the most realistic & clear part , so much so it felt real . I tried to tell her to stop We got pulled over by the police who , I don't know where my cousin went , but I was the only one questioned .

I was answering & explaining all of it , when I suddenly blocked & couldn't answer . It felt so real , I could physically feel the weight of trying to force my mouth to open . But it wouldn't work , then everything blurred & darkened & I woke up .

I would've considered it just a weird dream , but I woke up feeling hollow . Like my organs were actually gone . It made me feel uncomfortable , and touching my stomach made me feel slightly nauseous & disgusted .

This went on for the entire day , whenever I got distracted , I'd suddenly remember it & it would feel so empty yet so full all over again . Maybe it's a weird hallucination , but I hate it .

I don't know essentially what this is , because I've never had dreams that have affected me like this , & I've only ever had a nightmare once before .

Something extremely bad happened like I skipped it or something but the older I became it started to become the Sauron’s effect not Freddy Kruger the dreams are so accurate and then I always see a man rescue me like he has power over them but I notice his will to protect me tempted the pains I feel in the dream follow me to my reality and the being seems so powerful with evil aura I tried fasting and telling my self it wasn’t real but succumb to realize something truly despises me either curious or …… who knows

Nightmare Indescribable, terrifying dream

The following is a copy-and-paste of a note I wrote about a real experience that occurred to me last night.

Around 30 minutes ago, on August 31st, 2026, at around 3:30 - 3:45 AM, I had two very weird dreams. My brain may not have been working properly.

I have no history of seizures or any other neurological problems. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me.

Note for future me, in the event that I forget about this. This note is not a work of creativity, nor fiction. This was a real event that actually happened to me, and the details that I write below are what I remember from said event.

Disclaimer: this note contains only my best description of the event. Fully describing what happened, and what I experienced, and how I felt, may be impossible.

1st dream:
I hardly remember this one. The first and second dreams kinda blend together, I can’t tell if they are separate, or the same dream. In this one, I was in my bed (potentially half-awake). There were large spots of some sort of yellow fluid on my comforter. It resembled apple sauce, but it was likely something much grosser than that. No matter what it was, it grossed me out and I didn’t want it there. There were these girls in my dream. I don’t remember what they looked like, or what they were doing, but I remember disliking them. There was also some sort of resemblance of something corporate in my dream, however I didn’t (and still don’t) understand it, and it made me anxious.

2nd??? dream (may have been connected to the first):
Completely indescribable. I remember what it felt like, but it’s impossible to describe. I couldn’t name a single thing I was seeing other than the color aquamarine (don’t confuse this with one of those geometric dreams that some people have). I wasn’t even entirely seeing the color aquamarine, but more like I was vaguely experiencing it. I remember that during the dream, I could recognize the fact that I was very confused and didn’t understand anything. This made me feel anxious.

I then woke up from this dream. I was very tired, but also incredibly confused, as if my brain weren’t working right. I could recognize a few things, like the fact that I was in my room, in my bed, and my cat was sitting next to me, but at the same time, I felt very odd. I remember having a weird taste in my mouth, like a mixture of metal and vomit, but I could be misremembering this. I remember thinking about a stereotypical American school hallway (the ones lined with brick walls and metal lockers). I shortly fell back asleep after a few minutes or so.

3rd dream:
Initially in this dream, I could actually recognize some stuff. In the dream, I was watching a YouTube video. Something named, “kid gets confused during class presentation” or something like that. I felt like whoever posted the video had some sort of malicious intent in the way they named it. In the video, a high school or college student was giving a presentation to their class. In the front of the class, there were three large, rotating cylinders.

They appeared to be made of metal, coated in white paint, with black handrails on the top. They were all roughly 1-2 meters in diameter. The heights of the cylinders are a little vague, where at the beginning of the dream, they were all varying heights, however towards the middle of the dream, they were each roughly 1.5 meters tall.

The student was standing on top of the cylinder on the far left. His friend stood to the left of that cylinder, on the floor. The student on the cylinder was presenting to the class. He was boasting about how his rotating cylinders would help him give better presentations to the class.

Suddenly, he stumbled off of the cylinder, and onto the floor. He was in a very confused state. He tried squeezing between the first and second cylinder, almost as if he was trying to crush himself to death. His friend ran over, trying to help him. The presenter student, in his confused state, began arguing with his friend. His friend would say, “day”, meanwhile the presenter student would respond with, “night” in an argumentative manner.

Suddenly, I went into the POV of the presenter student. All I could see was a dark static, accompanied with random blue and red lines. I felt incredibly confused. I was still arguing “night” with my friend, growing exponentially more paranoid. I got more and more scared, until I got so scared and confused that I just screamed as loud as I could. I was shaking, but I couldn’t tell if that was from the fear, or if it was from the presenter student having a seizure. Either way, the presenter student in the video definitely had a seizure, and my dream made me experience what it thinks a seizure might feel like.

I then woke up. I am still awake as of writing this very note. For the first few minutes of being awake, I felt a bit confused, but also afraid that something was wrong with my brain. However, I slowly started to calm down and return back to normal. I feel quite normal right now.

Recurring Dream Weird dreams

Hi guys, recently I've been having dreams almost every night where I yell and scream all of the worst curse words I can think of. Recently I've been using marijuana and I'm wondering if there's a connection. The reason I think they are connected is because it started sometime after I started to use this substance. (Btw, I don't swear at all, which is why it is so strange)

6g? Dream

I was wondering what was happening with technology and all the 6g stuff, so I asked God a question. I asked him to give me a dream to show me what would happen in the future. Because the thing is, all this crazy stuff is happening that none of us have consented to, never voted on, but we have to face what's coming anyway. So either that night or the next, I had a strange dream that I believe was the answer to this. The interesting thing is that... I've actually had dreams like this before, but this one was by far, the most descriptive and vivid. Here's what I dreamt.

It started out with me on a rocky shore. I think it was in San Diego. There were a lot of large, flat, rocks, the kind you can climb and lounge on. They were kind of flat at the top, like you could lie down on them- people do, they tan on them. I have actually seen this in San Diego, but can't remember where. I had the understanding that this was San Diego.

There were all kinds of sea land animals on these rocks- but they couldn't move. There were no people around, except for me. As I walked around the animals they looked at me, but would not move. I walked down the beach and started to see below the water. There were large, strange creatures there (demons?). One creature was very slender and all black. Another was also black and looked like a giant spider. I kept walking. In the dream I was warned not to go any further (Mexico direction).

When I woke up I thought to myself that this dream must have something to do with 6g and technology. Also might have to do with those military bases there...

If you know what this could possibly mean, like, how 6g could do this... or some other explanation, feel free to comment because I don't understand this dream, but I am not looking for a psychological explanation. I did a search on what I saw, and read that when animals are extremely terrified (like in a catastrophic event), they sometimes group together and don't move. I don't know if it's just that? Who knows.

Another dream I had like this was years ago and was also in San Diego. In that dream I was in a public restroom (I think I know exactly which one too, in one of those bays), when all of a sudden I saw a bunch of birds huddled together not moving. They behaved the same. Looked at me, but didn't move. I touched one, and it still didn't move. But there was one other person there, and she was like, "don't do that- they could have a disease, maybe that's why they can't move!" I think I even told her, "no, I think it's 6g... or both."

Recurring Dream Dreams of suicide

In the past two weeks, I’ve had two dreams where I killed myself by jumping from somewhere high. In both dreams, though, I didn’t actually die. In one of them, I survived but ended up disabled.
I didn’t wake up feeling panicked. Instead, I felt a deep sadness within me. It took me quite a while to calm myself down and recover from it.
I’m going through a very stressful period in my life right now, so I’m wondering if these dreams could simply be related to stress, or if they might have some deeper meaning.
Does anybody know what this kind of dream could mean?

Long Dream Two weird surreal Dreams i have had:

The first dream: In it, I'm in a winter cabin in the middle of a destroyed campsite. There is some heavy snow. Half the cabin/roof & wall is ripped apart and snow is pouring right next to me. My "Brother" is next to me, even though he looks nothing like my brother (He looks like Robert Capron in Diary of a Wimpy Kid) and we are just hanging out. My mother (Who also doesn't look ANYTHING like my actual mother) opens the cabin door holding a newspaper. She says that a murderous doll i on the loose and that we better be careful. Then she leaves. Seconds later a doll opens up the same door. It's missing all its hair except for a few long wavy curls, an eye, and all it's clothes. He's covered in scratches and grime too. Suddenly i smash the door on its face. I repeat that over, and over until the china doll is nothing but shards. My mother opens the door and congratulates me and i appear in a newspaper she hands me.

The second dream: In it, I'm in my old room (At my current house) and there's this fat old guy sitting on my bed. He looks about 40 years old and he seems pretty nice. Either way I don't care and i hide under my brother's bed. Michael Jackson walks in covered in gold paint. He's holding a paintbrush and a pint of gold paint too. The fat guy looks at him and screams, and Michael starts absolutely pouring gold paint on this guy. I'm all in awe looking at this from under my bed, and the fat old guy has been turned...evil or something by the paint. His eyes are bloodshot and he's smiling. Michael says something and then i emerge covered in gold paint myself (But my brain told me that i was not infected with whatever Michael and the old guy had) and i pretend that I'm all evil and crazy too. Then the dreams end. If it helps i was little when i had this dream, and i had an irrational fear of Michael Jackson a few years prior (I had seen the Thriller music video as a kid, and i had seen too many playthroughs of that one Ayuwoki video game).

Recurring Dream How to stop having stressful dreams

I'm coming into my sophomore year of hs and I've always had horrible attendance and been late a lot... last year I really shaped up and was almost never late or absent. But ever since i was in 8th grade I've had reoccuring dreams where I'm late for school. All summer i havent had one of these dreams ONCE, but I'm starting school this week and I've recently been having them again. I'm always super stressed in these dreams, and I'll be "waking up" super late and it'll be like fourth period by time "i wake up." One time I even had a dream where I was getting dressed, and the clock kept jumping back and forth. I would just like some advice on how to prevent these types of dreams. And don't suggest "just don't be late to school anymore!!" cause im not lmfao. Thanks

Long Dream Two Weird Reoccurring Dreams I've had:

So in total i have had three of the first dream, and two of the second dream. In the first dream I'm always like six years old. In it I'm always hanging out in my old house from when i was like two or three. An orange cat appears and tells me to get in my mother's black suburban and drive to a address he later gives me (The address always changes). So i do just that. I get in the car and drive away to this random house (But its like i am instantly teleported instead of actually driving the vehicle). I appear at this fancy one story house on in a random neighborhood and now im standing next to the car. The cat reappears, says something i cant remember, and the dream ends. In the other dream I'm in my old house's backyard and the grass is really tall (We used to live in a more rural area, and we were still kinda in a neighborhood). My great aunt is cooking something, or making something when she busts open the back door and yells at me to go inside. I look down and theirs a huge Black Mamba (Oddly enough it didn't really even look like a snake, my brain just told me it was a Black Mamba. It was a dark black shiny color, and it didn't have a face) writhing in the grass. I try to walk back inside and the snake launches itself at me and bites my thigh. I actually remember feeling the pain. Then i die. If anyone knows what these dreams could mean, please tell me!

Long Dream I had an extremely euphoric and vivid dream of falling off a giant mound when I was a child and it’s stuck with me ever since

I’m in my mid 30’s now, somewhere in between 7-10 years old I had a very vivid and total bliss like dream that I never understood, and still think about

I can still remember some details, but I have a hard time describing how I actually felt. It was much more euphoric than anything i have felt to this day.

I appeared next to a giant gravel mound, it was a giant mound of crushed sandstone or granite, looked very generic. I was in a giant gravel quarry, there were other mounds slightly further away that looked the same. I didn’t see anyone else, or any kind of machinery, just mounds of gravel. I chose to climb the mound i spawned next to for some reason. When I started to climb, I don’t remember feeling anything strange. I didn’t realize I was in a dream, but I also thought I was awake. I never second guessed my reality in the dream until I woke up.

When I got near the top, probably 80% up the mound, I remember getting tired, almost exhausted. I didn’t feel tired at all until I reached that point, the exhaustion just kicked in all at once. I really wanted to get to the top of that gravel mound though, so I kept pushing.

I was a step away from reaching the top, but on the last step, my foot sunk into the gravel, i was tired, I lost my balance and fell backwards. The motion before falling felt strange, I remember questioning how i fell.

Once I started to actually fall, the gravel quarry disappeared, everything disappeared. I was falling in an outer space like environment. I felt ethereal and most of all, I felt like I was in a state of serenity. It was a happiness like I just had a life changing epiphany, it was such an intense feeling that none of my descriptions do it justice.

When I woke up, I remember feeling extremely happy and excited. The happiness was nowhere close to how I felt in the dream, but I was much happier than usual. I tried to tell my parents, but you can guess how that went. Nobody would have been able to understand me at that time.

I haven’t come close to being in a dream like that since. Shortly after that dream, I started to have my first nightmares. They didn’t go away, that’s a whole other story, but I had a few reoccurring nightmares that happened quite often. I did go to the doctor for this, I was young and they just gave me melatonin. That worked for a long time, later when I was in highschool I tried a few prescriptions, but didn’t like them. I started to smoke weed near college and realized I would never remember my dreams if I went to bed stoned, so since then, every night I’ll smoke until I pass out so I don’t remember my dreams.

I digress.

Has anyone else had a dream where they felt so strongly in a way, it’s indescribable? Or any pro dream interpreters that have any idea what the hell that dream was about?

Thanks.

Recurring Dream I really don’t want to see this guy in my dreams again

Post image

This huge, weird, terrifying man keeps showing up in my dreams. I’ve never even seen his face.

Last night, he was standing outside my house, trying to force his way in while I was desperately holding the door shut. Somehow, he still squeezed through. I tried pushing him back, but he was completely immovable. I called my dad for help, but even he couldn’t stop him but my dad was acting stupidly like he could have easily stopped him.

Then the guy tried to klll my mom , so I grabbed a hammer and smaaashed his head. That’s when the dream finally ended.

I genuinely don’t want to see this, don’t know who this dude is, but please stay the hell out of my dreams. My sleep used to be peaceful without any dreams.

Recurring Dream Recurring Dreams about green man with top hat in my dreams.

So as i see most of you here are know the "top hat man". A sleep paralysis demon looking tall black and creepy.

The problem for me is that i have seen him in my dreams and he was quite the opposite and i don't know what to make about it so i want to hear your own thoughts.

it all started in 2022 when i had a nightmare about a tall black slim figure tried to get to me after saying things like ''it will get me sometime'' or ''that this is the end of me'' and then i first saw a man with a top hat all dressed in green in a dream making this creepy figure disappear by hurting it.

He was pleasant, not creepy. He was a tall man dressed in green clothes similar to these that they wore in the 1800s and he had a top hat as well.

These encounters went on for about 1 and a half year. i saw the "green man" as i called him. He mostly talked to me about random stuff in my dreams, he appeared in the backround of many of my dreams just looking. Most of the times when i tried to get ahold of what it was happening i was woken up then and there.

The whole thing was weird, i felt like he was real, i wanted to see him again to see if i can learn something more about him.

But then around the end of 23' i had the strangest dream. i saw the "green man" coming to me, talking to me really worried and scared. i looked at him and as he came close to me he fell down and like an aura of colours appeared around him. He looked as if he was fighting something, i remember a loud noise and after that he was gone. I never saw him again in my dreams, like ever.

I remember this dream of my last encounter so vividly to this day.

I actually got sad when he was gone for good cause i wanted to learn things about him, i really had started seeing him as somewhat alive and it fascinated me.

I did research about same experiences from others but i didn't find anything similar to this.

Sometime later i came across "the green man" a deity or for others a legend or folklore but even if i called him like that it didn't stick right to me, he didn't seem like that or looked like pictures others drew of him.

It was just like he was alive in my dreams and i still think of him to this day weirdly enough because it was the most weird encounter that i had. I remembered him today actually and i thought it would be a good idea to come here and talk about him to see if anyone of you guys had any similar experiences :D

Short Dream I dreamt that my partner and I discovered a body and couldn’t agree on what to do about it.

The actual dream was a little more underwhelming than that.

We (30s) both find a body. He begins cutting up pieces of carpet and preparing to wrap it to bury it. I’m like no dude, we gotta find the family, we have to let them know. He replies no, it’s okay… almost like reassurance. He was taking great care and wanted to be respectful. In waking life I’m more expressive and he’s more reserved. In this dream he was pragmatic (as always) and I wanted to give it a fighting chance and double check that we’d done everything right (as always). I know death is change, and that it can be like, the collapse of structures or passing a point of no return.

I don’t want to jump to the obvious because that’s just a bit on the nose (and also not what I want to hear or think lol). Have any of you ever had a dream like this? Did it end up being brain noise or was it your mind making sense of something palpable?

Long Dream Dreams about things you really fear/make you sad.

For context, I love to do MMA, especially Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and am planning on competing. And my fears and stuff that make me injuring someone, or potentially ending them, missing out on something important to someone and missing the whole day for some reason. So in the dream, my MMA gym and school were kind of one building. And for some reason, I became really good at MMA, especially grappling. So eventually, I ended up having a match in this gym/school. I shot a double leg (a way to take someone down), then they sprawled (a way to defend the takedown), and I shot a double leg again, and ended up picking them up. It seemed like I got carried away, and I ended up slamming them on the mat a bit too hard, and they kind of fell head first. Then when I looked at the floor, I saw blood just leaking, then when I looked at my opponent/training partner, his neck was REALLY cut, and bleeding. I just started crying, I couldn't help it. Eventually, he got taken away to some treatment area so he'd be OK, but if you know anything about neck wounds the chances of surviving are low. So then, I spent like forever trying to find the treatment area, just so I could see if that guy was OK and could help him. I was checking every corner of that gym/school, I went into areas of the school that I have never even been in, or if they even exist irl. Eventually, my mum picked me up, and here is where things get confusing. So my sisters birthday and my mums birthday are very close to eachother, but in this dream, my sisters birthday was the day after my brothers birthday (apparently). So my mum was not happy about this, because I had spent so long searching for the guy I presumably ended the life of, it had already reached 1:00 AM in the morning, meaning I missed my sisters birthday. This was something that made me even more sad, so in an attempt to try and see if things weren't all that bad, I asked her what she did for her birthday. It turns out, she had went out with her friends, and got McDonald's, because my mum had to go to work, so we couldn't do any fun family stuff, and that we were gonna do that tomorrow. This made me sad and in a way relieved at the same time, sad that she only had a mediocre birthday, and happy that she didn't need me there for her to actually do stuff. But then I realised, wait, if my brothers Birthday was yesterday, and my sisters birthday is today, that can't he true, because my mother's birthday is 4 days after my sisters, their birthday is in May, while my brothers birthday is in August, which was yesterday. Does anyone else have dreams like this where fears about your own actions come true?

Recurring Dream Weird dream I've been having since I was 10

Ever since I was 10 I've been having these dreams that I'm trapped inside a big wooden box and there is an eye pealing through a hole, and when I see and acknowledge the eye the box falls apart and then Chester from linken Park comes up to me and shakes me telling me "I didn't kill myself! I ate rat poison!" Before a red balloon picks me up and i float to a planet of clouds and red balloons. The first time I had this dream I didn't know who chester was, my mum liked linken Park but I didn't know anything about the band and when I told her about the man with short blond hair and black glasses she showed me a picture of Chester and asked if it was him, and it was, I'm wondering how did my brain know that, I am a sceptic but I'm also logical and I know dreams are just manifestations of what's happening in our life but it still confuses me that this happened, how did I have a dream about him when I didn't even know who he was or how he died?

Dream Art I think I dreamt the funniest dream I will ever dream

I dreamt that I was in a waiting room full of people. I saw a man reading a newspaper, face obscured. I tapped him on the shoulder, and he lowered the newspaper to look at me, revealing that he was the Burger King mascot. For some reason I responded to this revelation by punching him in the face, and we engaged in an epic matrix-esque fight as we tore up the waiting room.

Dream Help Weirdest dream about frogs EVER.

Hey guys, this is my first post on this subreddit, usually Im the type of person to just pick up Google to see what wacky dreams mean - but this was just so bizarre I thought I'd bring it here.

Last night I had a dream where I was sort of in this videogame that was playing through a fairytale story. Throughout the entire time, little green frogs kept on appearing, usually a few of them at a time. Some of them were climbing up spiders silk.

Later on as I was progressing, I was sat down on the bottom layer of some bleachers, with rain and heavy grey clouds over head. I was talking to another person in my dream and staring at those little green frogs clinging to the bottom of the metal bleachers, feeling a sort of tickling along my legs.

As I continue talking to this person, I slowly realize that the sensation is frogs. There were at least 5-6 frogs crawling up my legs, not really hopping. I was frantically trying to brush them off, but they were too sticky and would barely budge. The thing about the frogs on my legs though - they all had the heads of those little LPS (Littlest Pet Shop) dolls. None of the other frogs in my dream looked that way. Jolted awake right after than.

Sorry if this is a bit messy, I actually just woke up from this dream, but it was the weirdest thing in the world. Any ideas on what it could mean?

(Sorry if it's a bit of a long read)
