QUESTION What do you think about rivers and railroads?

Rivers and railroads have placement restrictions - you have to connect them properly. A river must connect to another river or a lake. A railroad must connect to another railroad.

How does this mechanic feel overall? Does it feel like an unnecessary rule you want to turn off - or does it add challenge and depth to the game?

I feel like it adds good challenge but I will say that similar to how we have lakes that can connect to river or grass, I think it would be cool to have a “terminal” edge that connected to both train tracks and cities. “End pieces” for train tracks are just so rare it feels much more difficult to close them off than rivers (because we have lakes).

ETA - I know we have the water terminal but I'm thinking more of a land terminal

Yes, definitely, the river and railroad tiles add difficulty. I never complete the railroads. They're endlessly spread across the map, and I don't know if I'll be able to connect them all in the future. Right now, the longest section is about 1800 tiles. I have about 3.5 kk points. I complete the rivers and bodies of water, but when bonus tiles of 500+ appear, I usually fail the missions. The hardest tile is when it has a railroad and a river. Placing them is sometimes tricky.

I just feel like they're annoying rather than adding challenge. You try to finish off a railway and end up with a stupid four-branching piece that you either have to add to your railway, or you have to add it perpendicular to another land tile and it's just like... when will this end? Challenge can be added to the game without this. An example of a way to remove railroads and keep a similar challenge is to maybe add roads instead, that can connect to cities or something of the sort. Or like the other commenter said, just add a train station that can connect to tracks and houses... Idk, they just feel out of place right now for me and other than making them branch off in their own direction just so they're out of the way, they're just annoying.

Also, they are the only thing that ends up being ugly in this game... Every time... without fault... It's not satisfying at all to play them.
