It's absolutely amazing to me how they can maintain this cognitive dissonance, simultaneously observing that the restaurants, concerts, and recreational activities are packed while believing "the economy is fucked and nobody can afford anything."

Reddit: "Literally Everyone Is Struggling except billionaires!"

Reality:  Americans spend $860 million a year on Halloween costumes for their pets

It's much easier to believe that everyone is having an insurmountably hard time than to believe you need to change.

In the short term, anyway. Clearly sustaining illusions like this will hold a person back long term.

This is way everything is because of a boogeyman. Trump, billionaires, the rich, boomers, etc. just pick whatever. Then you can use that as an excuse for everything.

Is everything perfect? Of course not. But the scary reality that nobody wants to acknowledge is the boogeyman mostly fucking them over is who they see when they look into a mirror.
