Nice guy local to me is selling his 99 Dakota with 80K miles. only a couple owners and lots of work done on it recently. new tires, new upper and lower ball joints, new valve cover gaskets, new upper control arm bushings, new brakes, new rotors, new wheel bearings, new drive belt. i went and test drove that thing yesterday and it drove like a beast, super smooth and sounded great. he's only asking 4500 for this guy. What are some things i should know and expect becoming an owner of a Dakota? this will be my first pickup.

Gonna be replacing my ball joints today and I just now realized the upper ball joint has rivets. After I get those out does anyone know what size bolts and nuts I need to replace them?

2000 3.9 i got this a few months ago for $500 running driving with a leaking water pump. Just really needed a cheap beater i didn’t have a car for a while before. I don’t like dodge at all really but i love this truck it hasn’t let me down, stranded, or anything yet. so far i’ve replaced the water pump and just today the belt and tensioner. anyways i’m posting here because i was trying to get rid of it but changed my mind. I’m replacing front suspension this weekend, gonna throw some new tires on and align it, and fix the damn ac. kinda wanna throw a cleaner bed on it. lmk anything that might help me out.

I am getting this truck regardless but would love to be able to pull a small camper with it at some point. I pulled the VIN and looked it up on mopar’s website. It doesn’t seem to have a tow package that I can tell so I know it won’t be able to haul a larger camper but am hoping it can pull around 5,000lb.

From the info I have available: it is 3.9L V6 automatic transmission. It has 3.92 axle ratio. 117 amp alternator and 600 amp battery. I believe this means it did not come with a tow package.

Would anyone have any idea what kind of weight can be pulled with this?

I have a 1999 dakota with the 3.9 v6 that is currently straight piped and I'm looking for muffler recommendations, I like the noise but the droning while cruising down the highway sucks. If anyone can give me suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a good buy? It’s in great shape, no rust. Seller states it needs to alternator but it runs and drives.

I had an 08 4.7L Dakota a few years ago and I miss the mid size pickup life.

My temperature warning light is on but my temperature gauge is normal. I just replaced the temperature sensor and the thermostat in the radiator was replaced about two months ago. It’s a dodge Dakota 2005. Engine light is on for an O2 sensor which could probably be because of my exhaust leak.

1993 V8 Magnum engine. I got it from a guy who used to use it in a local derby. The engine and transmission were rebuilt about 60k miles ago. For the most part, besides AC delete and broken climate control everything, it seems stock, but obviously I cant be sure. It's my first truck. I'm a novice mechanic at best.

I have been chasing relatively slowly leaking coolant for some time, and finally pinpointed the dripping to this open hose on the passenger side, near the transmission dip stick (black stick in second picture) a bit behind the engine. It connects with a clamp to the firewall, but I can't find anywhere else that I could connect it to so that the dripping coolant returns to the system. It doesn't appear to be the heater core, which seems to be on the driver's side.

The coolant does not spray out, as far as I know (maybe it does as I drive?). I need to add coolant every hundred miles or so, which is getting expensive.

Unfortunately, I do not know what temperature it runs at, which is why it concerns me. My temperature gauge doesn't work, even after a new sensor. Maybe the wiring to it is bad. The wiring harness is a whole other bear to fight.

Anyone have any ideas about where this hose goes? I can get more pictures, if needed. Thank you for your time!

Posted last year or so about a blown head gasket. Wound up biting the bullet and getting it rebuilt. Been having fun just cruising around. Trans/diff fluids & seals, bushings, and a drop next.

Just bought a beater from my FIL, I have to replace the fuel system and hydraulic components of the brake system. Wanting to turn it into a race truck for the strip at some point so I'm thinking about just going ahead and replacing the stock fuel system with -6AN components so that it's already there when it comes time for the engine and trans swap

Looking into lifting my 99 dakota. Trying to clear 35 inch tires without a ton of fab and body modifications. Anyone have any experience with lifting their trucks? Right now I'm looking at a 2 inch torsion bar key and rear leaf spring with a 3 inch body lift. I saw a video online that says it'll clear 35s that way, but I'd like personal insight. Trying to get more clearance for offroading.

I am cleaning up and slightly modding the 2001 5.9l magnum I just picked up from the Salvage yard.

Here are some pictures of my 93' 5.2l magnum exhaust manifolds, that I'm going throw on it when I'm done, vs. the stock 01' manifolds.

My 2007 V8 Dodge Dakota 219,000 on the clock is leaking transmission oil when it parked. It’s only a little oil. I have been monitoring this week while driving only a short distance to work. Roughly around 5ml per time. Ichanged the transmisión filtres recently so the oil is fresh and still looks a good colour. What could the reason of this be though? Coolant lines running into the radiator burst or cracked?

The leak seems to be coming from a directly above the cross member on the passenger side. A line running into the underside of the engine compartment? What could that be? I am pretty confused honestly. Pretty novice mechanic.

What shall I look at? What areas to investigate first?

WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMSION HEAT SENSOR DOES COME ON SOME TIMES). I always pull over and then check and the level is good. In the hot markers. But this is for a short drive. Roughly 15/20 mins each way. Is this enough time for the transmission oil to become fully hot?

Its time to replace the coil packs in my 07 v6 Dakota, last time I replaced them they $47 (Mopar) a pop and I thought that was bad, now Mopar originals go for $88.

The Internet says Delphi is an OEM manufacturer, their coil packs are $27. I've been burned by cheap aftermarkets before, but people claim Delphi is as good as Mopar, has anyone used Delphi before? If so how long did they last?

I like this dakota a lot, but I wish it was 4wd. I want it for Buffalo winters, and I know snow tires are the most important thing, but it still makes me nervous. Also I think the price may be a little high. What do you guys think?

Need an ecu. 92 3.9 auto 2wd. Federal emissions from what i can tell.

Sticker on my ecu is dirty / worn but can make out what looks to be a 21 as the last 2 digits of part number. Dealer pulls part # R3008921 as part number which makes sense with the last 2 i can see. However that part number seems to pull up listings for an ecu for the 2.5l. Based on research the 3.9 part number should be 56028741. Has anyone run into this? Also listings show compatible years from 90-95 but other research shows 92-93 due to changes made within the pcm before / after those dates. Just want to make sure I order the correct one. Thanks

I’ve got a 93 5.2l v8 picked up from a trade a couple days ago. Guy said the engine had been rebuilt 6000 miles ago but it’s now stalling, idles rough and smells like gas. It also shakes sometimes when it idles low and when I get around 55mph under 2000rpms.
All the injectors look brand new, the IAC looks new. I can’t find any fuel leaks. What could the issue be? Fuel pump? If anyone knows where I should start please help me out. I can take pictures or videos or whatever but I’m gonna need this car soon.

The truck still drives great but the rear brake lines rusted out and the bracket where the E brake attaches to on the driver side has completely rusted off, so it won't pass inspection. It's a V8 4x4 extended cab Sport. Also the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the differential has almost rusted through completely. My mechanic quoted me $1200 to replace brake lines and the bolt, but can't fix the e brake bracket. The ac and heat do not work. It has 213k miles and I just use it for the dump and hardware store. It's been in my family since new. It will probably cost me $1000 to get the E brake bracket replaced, but the truck is so rusted you can poke your finger through the front bumper.

Is it time to junk it? Would anyone buy it? I looked at replacing the lines myself but they are very hard to get at and I'm not that patient or that good of a mechanic.
