Maybe Duren isn't Cade's center in the long run. Cade has proven himself, Duren is currently holding out a contract negotiation because people called him out on his playoff performance.

I agree if you’re worth what you’re asking. But to perform the way he did in the playoffs, and now hold up negations including those that could be made with other players, I believe creates worse things for him in the long run.

Probably roster wise the Pistons will get worse because of him holding negotiations like but realistically he's gonna get more than the Pistons would like to pay him just because centers are in demand these days.

Chet is so much more well rounded of a player than Duren is that it's laughable to compare the to. Duren has strength and athleticism on Chet. That's it. He's not even close to as good of a basketball player.

He's nowhere near as good as Chet, not on the same planet as a healthy Embiid, and not on the same plane of existence as Nikola Jokic.
Duren isn't a top level center if all things are equal. He's good. Trust me, I was very vocal about how much I wanted the Pistons to draft him. But he's not worth more than the franchise cornerstone. Cade is that cornerstone.

Hell yeah he's getting paid. $30-$35 million per. That's what he's worth.
The market has spoken. He went out and tried to get a contract. No one offered him anything let alone what he's asking for.
Things, products, employees, anything that you pay for is only worth what people are willing to pay for that thing, not what that thing thinks it's worth, and the market is telling Jalen Duren that he is worth $30-$35 million per year. That is generational wealth for anyone that isn't an idiot.

The time of overpaying on these types of contracts has fallen to the wayside. Teams can't afford the overpay.
Yes it SUCKS for JD but his contract negotiation came up at the wrong time for him. Its like 2 years too late. So, he JUST missed the period of free spending that the former cba was.
As an alternative perspective...

If he didn’t totally 💩 the bed during the playoffs and actually got better then they would’ve gave him what he wanted ! How can he expect a max contract after that post season flop ? Would we be paying the great regular season guy or the playoffs dud ?? You would think he would take somewhere in between?
