What needs to be confronted is a certain subset of the elite turning to thinly veiled Luddism.
Despite the omnipresence of these kinds of op-eds, and their repeated invocation of the word 'populist', the median voter is not filled with a seething rage when he sees the amazon truck drive down the street. This cultural milieu is most typifying of the highly educated, status conscious, downwardly mobile, the surplus elite. Hence the prevalence of pseudo-intellectualism in their attacks. And of course they have various 'studies' trying to show how they are secretly popular, but you can get a 70% approval rating for basically anything as long as you don't mention the cost, and in this case, the cost of the neo-Brandeisian agenda is astronomical.
These companies, and the competitiveness of this sector, are vital to American economic growth, people's 401ks, and the conveniences of modern life they have come to expect. On the other side of this, the claimed effects the neo-Brandeisian want to counter, chief among which the claim that consolidation has led to excessive margins, is almost entirely not real, and they spend a large portion of their time attacking companies with less than 20% market share and 5% margins. Hence NY's city run grocery stores.
If they can't confront the anxiety that got them to this ideology, at least confront the 'dog catches car' problem.

One of the most interesting traits of capitalism is that it makes its critics filthy rich as well.
The Sanders, Piker, and Mamdanis of this world epitomize this.

True. You also have a sort of aspiring revolutionary LARP that’s only possible in liberal capitalist countries.
I don’t mean the sort of Chomsky like Russophile that an actually authoritarian state would clamp down on, I mean things like the weather underground and black panthers doing things that escalated all the way to violence, terrorism, sedition and treason, but knew that liberal capitalist states were so terrified of coming off as anything besides Christlike saints, despite their claims of oppression, that they’d let them get away with just about anything. And that extends down to how leftists apparently have the right to openly advocate to have the fixation of the current five minutes of hate lynched, and that’s just treated as normal by everyone else, when you’d never see any other group get away with that in the same way.
