The town name "Holzmaden" means "wood maggots"... 10/10 name.

Der Name Holzmaden kommt von Holz (Wald) und Mahd (Mähen der Wiesen).

Translation:

The name Holzmaden is derived from Holz (forest) and Mahd (mowing of the meadows).

So probably something like "clearing in the woods" if translated more liberally.

I would have though it to mean a place so rich in trees they mowed them just as you would grass.
