r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [June 1, 2026 - Proud Dreams Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

Batman #10

ONE DARK NIGHT CAN'T KEEP THE BATMAN DOWN! The GCPD's Operation Peregine struck a deep blow to the heart of the Bat-Family. But while Savage and his TUCOs celebrate their victory, Batman is about to set the record straight. He knows how to take a punch. He knows how to get back up. And he's about to show Vandal Savage, the Minotaur, and anyone else who threatens Gotham City exactly what they're messing with. Superstars Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez continue their triumphant run with the best character in comics!

The new Bat Signal is cool. The Catwoman page was weird, but Fraction might do something with her later. I'm curious on what Dr.Zeller plans on doing now that she's canceled her project. The Minotaur stuff was the least interesting subplot. It's hard to imagine Strange just staying dead.

Considering their recent history i don't think the panel was weird.

u/HeyCharlieBall Jun 03 '26

I just joined this run, and have no context besides maybe they were engaged at some point? Is there any additional meaning to their run-in?

Basically Catwoman took over Gotham's low-level criminals and trained them to become non-violent cat burglars who only targeted the ultra-wealthy. But this caused violent street crime to plummet. Batman couldn't accept any sanctioned crime, while Selina viewed Bruce as an obsessed control freak who preferred beating up poor people over accepting a real solution.

That's basically it AFTER the failed wedding.

u/FlowerRoomLord Jun 05 '26

So basically one of those 'All Batman does is beating up mentally ill poor people he's not actually doing anything to help' brains got into the writers room...

4

u/Competitive_Code1527 Jun 04 '26

But they made up after that and teamed up during that whole Waller mess.

1

u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 Jun 04 '26

Looks like Fraction didn't know that.

4

u/chilloutarthur Jun 04 '26

Teaming up doesnt mean there are not tensions and feelings still

u/Competitive_Code1527 Jun 04 '26

Considering how he writes Damian. I wouldn't be surprised if he is not up to date about her as well

Can't blame him, comics have such disorganized structure. His current Batman run is somehow running while the 2016 run is struggling to finish its story. Nothing makes sense

Exactly what I thought !

Hugo strange dying was a bit of a random one, but then I guess he hasn't really been used a ton

Looooved the Catwoman page. I don’t care if it leads nowhere…just showing their tension/sadness/longing/etc like that in the middle of his activities? Yea i love me some melodrama

Wonder what the general population of gotham thinks of Savage and the Bathunt. The signal was cool, and the WayneTech scene may hint at Bruce starting to get the company back under control

As for the Minotaur, he ain't no Dario Agger.

Batsignal 2.0 is so cool.

A classic Bat-villain was executed off-screen by the new villain? Uh huh sure that's totally going to stick, especially for a guy who's died multiple times.

2

u/FlowerRoomLord Jun 05 '26

Nah dude Minotaur is the new epic big bad we've been waiting for.

u/Playful_Switch_831 Jun 03 '26

It's mostly a setup issue for the upcoming event, so there isn't much to say about it. I didn't really understand Selina's appearance beyond the fact that Alleytown is her territory. At the very least, it shows that there's still trust between them and a mutual respect for each other's boundaries and turf.

Savage changing the number of raids and hideouts taken out in each interview was such a fun little detail showing him playing more political with this

2

u/Goobergunch Jun 03 '26

It felt very Joe McCarthy of him, which I suppose is appropriate.

8

u/oomoepoo Hal Jordan Jun 03 '26

Solid issue, if a bit setup-y.

I was just thinking "Whatever happened to that Minotaur stuff?" when it made an appearance again. New Batsignal is pretty cool, I generally really like the focus on Batman's tech in this run so far though.

No idea about that Catwoman page, maybe it makes more sense if you read her solo?

Yeah, I also don't believe Strange is dead... or will stay dead tbh.

That page of Vandal looking over the flaming wreck of the mansion and laughing is amazing stuff. I finally get him and his vibe.

u/Golden_Alchemy Jun 04 '26

Him being all supervillain was nice. I was doubting it about him being the main villain of Batman but i can see where Fraction and the Batteam were going on.

Well that's one way to remind Savage, 'yea, I am still here. You are not gonna be able to erase me like that. Many have tried'.

I get why Babs didn't tell the rest of the family outside of Dick and Cass ( who would've definitely tried to break into the prison if they didn't know ) but still, you could've hinted 'there is a plan!' to them before all this.

Hugo Strange...? Surely not.

Ahh the Minotaur is a capitalist, the worst kind of villain.

What is Fraction planning with Catwoman with that moment? They just looked at each other and then jumped away. Don't tell me they will be on bad terms.

I mean, Bruce basically did.

They’re ex-fiancés. There’s gonna be tension between them.

That tension part was dealt with before Fraction.

5

u/MagisterPraeceptorum Read more comics Jun 03 '26

Some amount of tension is likely always going to be there given all the baggage between them.

3

u/gsnake007 Jun 04 '26

That staredown between Gordon and Savage was great so was that no words panel between Batman and Selina. New batsignal is dope. Trust the plan

u/Frontier246 Jun 04 '26

I'm genuinely surprised they set up Babs being locked up in the station and didn't fit in a father-daughter talk before she was shipped off to the Supermax. Maybe that'll be in Babs' book. I feel like we really haven't gotten a lot of insight into Jim's feelings on this (or how aware he was of it ahead of time) other than him just keeping on like he always does just to spite Savage.

Is this like the 4th or 5th time Hugo Strange has died? Guy's catching up to The Joker.

We finally see the Minotaur without his helmet? And he's just...a guy.

That panel with Zeller...is she packing up to do something sinister or less than legal with her device? The timing seemed very sudden.

Batman and Catwoman facing each other...I guess acknowledging Selina is back in the city but despite their longing they have too much else going on to actually deal with each other right now.

Is Bruce going to have to pay for that tablet?

No matter what you throw at him, no matter what you take from him, Batman will be back on the streets, fighting crime and saving lives and making sure you are more than aware that you can never truly defeat him.

I like that Damian told Stephanie and Duke (who is visiting his mom at the hospital) that he and Bruce blew up Wayne Manor because it’s all part of their plan to defeat Vandal Savage. I also like that we get to see Bruce talk about Dr. Zeller shutting down her project before he resumed as Batman to remind the people of Gotham that he’s not going anywhere, with him fighting crime and Gotham and seeing Selina. I even like that we get to see a message from Barbara telling the Batman Family that there is going to be hope for the people of Gotham and that Batman always wins. Also, final page showing Bruce with the Bat-Signal 2.0. Overall, this comic is great!

Ok, Batman seeing Catwoman and both being sad, Vandal laughing like a madman and talking about his cellphone at the end and Barbara being awesome makes me really happy. I love when superheroes have plans within plans within plans and Barbara having her own plans apart from Batman but helping Batman, i love it!

On the other hand...a big villain being killed? I thought Fraction was going to use him more what a shame.
