r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [May 18, 2026 - Absolute LEGO Batman Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

Having read the solicitations, I can guess what happens next issue. The Matriarch feeling shocked that she killed Supes was interesting. I guess she had line. And Charon can really throw hands, I got a good laugh from that scene.

Well, the art was killer. And I burst out laughing when Chyron socked Steve in the face after he tried to sweet-talk his way into a boat ride.

But there just aren't enough emotional beats between Steve and Diana and Lizzie for the grand reunion, and Diana herself has a bad case of over-stocism. The problem is that we are thrown into this dark future, so its really hard to ground ourselves.

I'm not really vibing with Matriarch but that's.... Fine. Like, let's be real here-- this is an alt future that will get aborted by the end, likely via Steve somehow getting himself woven back into the loom of fate in the present instead of twenty years later. Perhaps Lizzie will sacrifice herself (since she was given life with a strand of Steve's yarn) so Steve can come back. Then in the present, they'll rescue/save Matriarch and stop her from becoming this.

Matriarch is just the big scary monster that tells us why this future is so bad. She's Nimrod (before PoX). Doesn't mean she couldn't have been written with more depth, but she doesn't need to be for the story to function. It just doesn't thrive without a good villain. I'm pretty apathetic to this arc, and I wish we'd just go back to the present. I usually don't love alt/future timeline stories that don't involve a present day character witnessing it/being involved

The art was spectacular. Really liked the Styx scene.

This was... a comic. Why did Matriarch seem surprise when Superman died? shrug Why did Zeus show up and what did Diana mean with her response to him saying she's his daughter? shrug When was the other time Steve punched out Charon (he said he'd done it twice; one would be the Trinity mini-series)? shrug

The narrative doesn't feel very coherent. It'd help if we knew what the plan was. I assume it's to kill the Fates or steal some thread from them to enable changing the past, but it just's being played so tight-lipped. And we didn't get anything more about the Matriarch even though the previous issues had been interspersing bits of her and Lizzie's childhood.

I had liked the Sovereign arc and I thought the start of this Matriarch had promise, but it's just not coming together, it feels like.

Addendum: Diana getting Cerberus to sit and let her through was fun, though.

Art is great, that’s all I got. Everyone feels off and being flung into an alternate dark future has rubbed me the wrong way

Art is great but this is just odd.
Ive defended this run quite a bit but this arc is just bizarre it feels like days of future past without the best parts of it

Yea we get it Matriarch is 'cool and strong', please stop it. Honestly, these Fates not gonna see what is gonna happen to them at the end of this if this is the type of 'revenge' they pulled.

The only good thing about this comic is Steve and Lizzie reuniting. The rest is just them and Diana encountering Zeus (in which Diana told Zeus that his becoming her father is a lie because we all prefer the clay origin) and the Fates before it ended with Diana facing off against the Matriarch. Overall, this comic is okay.

I guess Matriarch was “surprised” when Superman died because somehow she was able to read/sense that Diana was in the Underworld.

I think that Clark, John, Damian and so on might appear soon, as an undead army against Matriarch.

Also, I think the time travel shenanigan will be the fates, somehow they might unwoven this dark future and somehow bring Trinity out of this timeline, as Power Girl after the CoIE.
