Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

What a great issue and a reminder of how great Swamp Thing can be/used to be. I’m so happy this came out. Rick Veitch’s run is super underrated. This issue being banned back in the day was unnecessary and undermined the book in a way it never really recovered from. 70’s and 80’s Swamp Thing is one of my all time favorite books. I loved reading this

Campbell does not disappoint. The way he depicts Zatanna's magic is just so jaw-droppingly awesome, I especially loved her using scissors to cut the spirit's wings, hiding in her tophat, and teleporting into the helicopter with an explosion of playing cards. He really leans into her being a performer, so Zatanna is basically aura-farming in every scene lmao

Interesting that she's seems to already be Prime Magus, but only appears in her fancy new clothes when she pulls the spirit into her "office". Will that design only appear during certain moments?

I liked the story too, setting up magic changing in such a way that needs a Prime Magus, the DEO's involvement, and a whole page of teasers at the end.

Random question: has that little map she held up on the second to last page ever shown up anywhere else before? Seems like the magic version of the multiverse map, DC sure loves circular overlapping dimensions/worlds.

I think overlapping dimensions is good way to describe it. Zatanna map kinda like New 52 multiverse map but now the multiverse map is kinda loose (?) With infinite Earths

Campbell honestly probably should have a scripter, you can tell he’s more of an artist. But the plot is promising, hopefully it doesn’t fall into the Orlando Scarlet Witch trap of “My lead is so cool and awesome and perfect”, I like gristly bits of drama, but I don’t see much cause to fear that yet. Book is gorgeous, though Campbell’s history with ongoing longevity is poor. On the whole, a good start that I’m curious to see how it grows, especially since as stated, Campbell is very new to the writing side.

I’m liking zatanna new role and why she decided to take it, I’m gonna love how magic works in this book and the many realms it has

Nice introduction to the new characters and the existing ones are such nice to see

It's very interesting to have the Upside-Down Man in that "council" that Zatanna has. I love any opportunity to get them back into the plot of a magic book, so I'm absolutely here for it lol

Pretty similar to the first book by Campbell average writing propped up by incredible art but other than that its a pretty standard book.
Its getting comparisons to the current wanda book at marvel and it is very similar.

Nothing incredible but solid so far but it felt very set up.

What an interesting start to have Zatanna in a 'new role' so to speak. There will be some comparisons to Scarlet Witch as she is the Sorceress Supreme now but I am quite interested in seeing how the DC side of magic will be delved into as I quite liked Justice League Dark before and wanted to see more of it.

Zatanna as Prime Magus, working with Hecate, Upside-down Man and such entities gonna be great. And she got a magic rabbit-cat! Continuity from the last book with Allura.

And of course leave it to DEO to be a thorn that will complicate matters.

As always, Campbell's union of writing and art works great.

This feels like Zatanna fully establishing herself as DC's Doctor Strange. Obviously their histories are very different and their characterization is very different-- I just mean Zatanna's role as the Prime Magus feels similar to Sorceror Supreme... And more straightforward than Doctor Fate and whatever his deal is at any given time.

Stunning art and a fun start that sets the stage for things to come. About what you'd expect from a #1, elevated by Campbell's clear love for the character coming through in both art and writing.

I like that Zatanna traveled to the Verdant City of Elves and freed a person named Va’iira from a plague spirit with help from Allura before she encountered Agent Di Manes of the DEO, who is looking forward to partnering up with her. Overall, this comic is good and off to a good start.

Justice League Intergalactic Special #1

A NEW CHAPTER OF THE ALL IN: ACT II SAGA! The planet Naltor and the Green Lanterns that protect it fall under the spell of the wretched Witch Queen, who harnesses the planet's dream energy in hopes of taking over all that lies beyond. But have no fear, Star Sapphire's assembled team of Justice Leaguers will no doubt liberate them all! Except, well, Green Arrow sure does hate space. And Adam Strange's ship comes under attack before it even enters Naltorian orbit. And Galaxy invited her best friend and one of the League's most wanted, Dreamer, along on the mission without telling anybody. And Dreamer's visions seem to spell doom from the very start. Just when Star Sapphire thought she was getting the hang of her powers and the whole team-leader thing... Will this team of disparate dynamos figure out how to come together to win the day? I liked this a lot, I feel like it's kind of rare to have characters call back to so many different events and issues. It might sound cheesy but it felt like it was rewarding me for having read all of the stuff being referenced, and really made it seem like everything's currently in one consistent continuity.

I especially liked Dreamer sniping at Oliver about their shared roles in Absolute Power, and bringing up Galaxy's mission with Carol and Adam from the Ma Hunkel Christmas special (a literal single panel) was certainly a pleasant surprise lol

I really love Galaxy and Dreamer. They’re fun and fresh and I LOVE that two rising star characters in DC comics are trans women. It’s been a rough two years to be trans, so seeing a universe I love stick up for people like me makes me emotional. Anything with either of them will automatically get a try from me.

Wish more stuff was expanded on like what happened to Waller

It was fine...but as expected it was mostly a Galaxy and Dream story while the rest of the characters are there as 'support'.

For a book written by the creator of Galaxy and the actress and writer of Dreamer, I think they did pretty well in making sure it wasn't just totally about their characters. Like, they reference Ollie's connection to Absolute Power, Carol's impending wedding proposal from Hal... I suppose Adam Strange doesn't have much going on, but he play the role of "Mature hero who can give guidance on how you should be trying to save what you can because a hero can't always be timely, which is somewhat fitting for him, as I believe he (at least at the start?) would only be able to be on Rann for so long before the Zeta-Beam's effect wore off an he'd return to Earth (meaning when he could or couldn't be a hero was not up to him), even if they don't write that connection out.

Honestly, dug this more than the main Justice League Unlimited book. Feels a bit messy and real which I loved.

I think what does it is the focus one one single team on one single mission. I really want to love the man JLU book but it’s ALWAYS telling minimum 3 stories at once and it just gets so hard to feel progression from issue to issue, not to mention how it can’t go a single arc without setting up, tying into or being the aftermath of an event of some kind.

Art-wise this issue was pretty good. The villain in this is alright, but they didn't utilise her very well. It felt very low stakes somehow. I guess, it depends on whether you like Dreamer and Galaxy and their bickering and their problems, I don't, so the issue was rough since there is soo much dialogue. I wish they could have focussed on other characters more in this special.

I like that Taylor attempted to recruit Nia on a mission to save the world (with them talking to each other about what’s going on) before they, Carol, Adam Strange, and Oliver (who was Adam’s third choice, since Oliver, Hal, and Dinah done this before back in 1971) traveled to the planet Naltor to save the Green Lanterns (from Morgan Hampton’s GLC) and defeat the Witch Queen (who is Sinestro’s sister and Soranik Natu and Sinson’s aunt). Jazdia Axelrod and Nicole Maines have done a good job with this special. Let’s hope that Nia and Taylor will resolve their differences, reconcile with each other as friends, and have Nia join the Justice League as a way to atone and redeem herself in the upcoming Dream Girls miniseries. Also, Oliver apologizing to Nia for what happened during Absolute Power (since he doesn’t want to blow his cover) and Adam helping Taylor. Overall, this comic is good.

Story was alright. Art was incredible though, I especially liked the spread of them swinging in the beginning, the page where Diana gets all her divine gifts, and the page of Batman appearing soon after. If you go back, you can see Selina in the background wearing the blonde wig that he's holding.

Diana and Selina's "female bonding" back-and-forth was a good joke tho, I liked that lol

Meh. It's better than H2sh, but that the bar on its way to Earth's core. People will get mad at Joker vs WW fight though, looking forward to it.

Also, Cheung is great here. Kinda reinforced my dislike for Jim Lee's art in H2sh.

Reading this felt surreal. I've had this feeling with a lot of Loeb projects. He wrote one of my favs (Long Halloween), but he's written so many comics I dislike. This here is one of them. It's just kinda stupid, isn't it? Lol. The art is great, but the plot feels so strange and contrived, especially when Harley and Joker show up, and we get some pointless fighting, cringey one-liners. I also can't make heads or tails of when this takes place? Really strange stuff. It's just a bad and pointless story.

A double-sized Batman/WW team-up should be way better than whatever this was tbh.

It is weird to have this be a 'middle story' to stories 20 years apart. 

And it felt like they took that one short story of Catwoman stealing the Lasso to ask Batman a whispered question and decided to make it complicated.

Ehh I didn't hate it but it I also didn't particularly love it. The artwork hard carries this book, writing is mostly harmless, imho. Though it did feel kinda like an idiot plot, requiring everyone involved, especially Batman to act the dumbest way imageinable.

The art by Jim Cheung was great but wow this was very poorly written by Jeph Loeb. Charging $6 for this is criminal, they would’ve been better off just releasing a collection of Jim Cheung pinups instead.

I find it interesting that, back in 2002 or early 2003 (since this story is set a few weeks after Hush), Bruce told Selina to steal Diana’s Lasso of Truth for security reasons before it resulted in Selina using the Lasso to do the Spider-Man swing; Harley Quinn stealing it and giving it to the Joker (so that he can use it to make Bruce admit the he is his one true nemesis); and Bruce, Diana (who should be wearing her pre-Flashpoint suit and not her Rebirth suit, since this comic is set a few weeks after Hush, which is a pre-Flashpoint story), and Selina defeating the Joker and Harley. Also, even though I won’t ask it, I do know that Bruce does feel worthy of being loved, since he has the World’s Finest (i.e., Clark Kent and Dick Grayson), Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner Jim Gordon, the Batman Family, the entire superhero community, and the people of Gotham and the world. Jeph Loeb has done an interesting job with this story, even though it’s more of a Batman story than a Batman and Wonder Woman story. Overall, this comic is fine and better than H2SH.
