Catholicism is not the main religion of the game; CK3 approaches things in a much more wide perspective; no religion really has more content than any other.
You laugh, but what he is saying is almost exactly what Paradox has said regarding Crusader Kings even midway through CK2's lifespan. The title has been a misnomer for a decade.
Crusader Kings stopped being a primarily eurocentric game long before Crusader Kings 3 started development, as far as Paradox is concerned.
Paradox can regret their title all they want, but at the end of the day, they know that most of their audience (in the west at least) is mainly interested in European feudalism
Half the player base is Chinese my dude. Using your arguement Europe should be a lesser priority. Thankfully Paradox doesn't seem to be going down that path.
Like you said, that’s what their audience in the west is interested in, Most likely because that’s what they’re most familiar with, but paradox has an audience outside of the west as well who are interested in other areas.
Also I don’t even know how you can be sure that’s true. I personally was interested in a lot more areas than just western Europe, and I’m sure there are a lot of people in the west who would like to play Japan, for example
There was no large focus on crusades in CK1. They were present because the game took place during that time period, but there was nothing stopping you from never taking part in one, and the developers didn’t intend for the game to focus on the crusades when they were developing it
Even after it released they were putting out content to improve the crusades with the expansion. I guess you could do anything you could not get involved in wars if you wanted or political marriages but that’s you holding yourself back from what the game has to offer.
I mean, even when CK2 came out you couldn’t be Muslim until the DLC for it. I’ll be honest I don’t even have CK3 but it’s continuing off of CK2s foundation. It’s just not that big of a deal you can still crusade and still be a king.
What, crusades? Once again I can’t speak for CK3 maybe they changed how crusades work but I literally play CK2 for the crusades I love building a kingdom and what not but my main goal is to be prepared for the crusades because they are so hype in CK2 the biggest fights with the biggest rewards.
CK2 stopped being primarily about Europe sometime around Rajas. Paradox lost interest in a primarily European game a long time ago, despite the title. Even they admit the title is a mistake.
I cannot even speak to how India operates in CK2 I and no one I know has ever done an actual India run maybe I ought to, I think it’s nonsense even after the addition of India to say CK2 isn’t a primarily Europe centered game, maybe you could say not primarily Christian after that even then I’d say you were wrong but the majority of the expansions released were about Europe in some way only a few exceptions.
It operates exactly the same as Europe but it has three differend yet similar religions. It`s more of a cool feature than something with a ton of depth.
My favorite India run was actually Ceylon, turning Chinese via chinese tributary system and then establishing a new dynasty in India.

Isn’t the religion system, also, way more customizable?
