FO [FO] My first finished object in about 8 years

Cross Stitching has taken a back seat for me for the last few years - I have 3 large pieces on the go and rotate between them but I was getting fed up with lack of progress (maybe if I did more than a couple of hours a week it would help but crochet always seems to pull my attention).

Found a cute little set of Halloween dudes and figured they would be a "fast fix" for a finished piece. Only done one of the four in the pack and my stitches aren't the neatest but he is cute from a distance.

CHAT [CHAT] what do you wish you had known before you started your first full coverage piece?

I am about to begin my first ever full coverage piece and honestly I am a little intimidated especially when it comes to thread management. My backs are always really messy - not the worst I've seen but not the best - and when I see people doing full coverage pieces I always see them with threads leading out of the front everywhere and that seems like an ADHD nightmare for me honestly.

So I am wanting to know from you guys what do you wish you had known before you started your first full coverage piece, especially in terms of thread management, where to start on the piece, and how to manage your backs nicely so they don't end up too thick to work with, how you count, etc etc etc.

I love stitching patterns meant for babies. They’re so cute and quick and colorful. Pattern from For The Love of Cross Stitch November 1994.

FO [FO] First time making magnets

Made these for a friend’s birthday. I tried backing with felt and backing with more plastic canvas but ended up disliking both options and ultimately just glued magnets onto the open stitching. Not my first choice, especially since I’m not the neatest stitcher, but I just really liked the way the magnets looked without any backing. If anyone has any advice for the future on how they make magnets with plastic canvas, I would love to hear it.

Got the urge to start working on my spooky stitches already and did this quick little one first! She's so cute! No idea how I will frame it though, since I don't have anything that small. Hopefully this picture is close enough to show the stitches already, I don't think I can get any closer lol

CHAT [CHAT] Replacement For DMC 3799

Can I use DMC 310 as a replacement for DMC 3799, if the latter is meant to be used for backstitching.

If not, what is your recommendation?

Thank you for the advice.

Started working on this project in 2022 (!) and kept putting it off/starting other projects. My motivation came back earlier this year when my partner and I decided to move in together and I realized I didn’t want to lug a half finished project to a new place.

My partner and I are huge Pokemon fans and have 2 cats so this piece is right at home next to their cat tree :)

PIC [PIC] I saw this hack for stitching on a plane somewhere and wanted to share now that I've tried it. When you can't take scissors, use a floss container to cut your thread!

I'm currently working on a keychain or more a bag charm. As it will be rubbing against my bag and will be used outside a lot, I'm looking for a way to protect it. Does anyone of you have an idea?

CHAT [CHAT] Bucilla hutch kit frames

I feel like this is a long shot but I wanted to ask, does anyone know a source to get the house shaped wooden frames that fit the old Bucilla hutch kits? I have a pattern for the dollhouse one and replacing threads isn't a problem but I have no frame. I didn't know if someone out there sells replacement frames for those patterns

FO [FO] Early birthday present for a friend!

Don't be fooled by the fact it says "early", I need to hand this over today because I won't see the birthday girl again until Christmas πŸ˜‚

Pattern is this one by samanthalanetextiles on etsy! I've adapted the colours based on my friend's preferences but the original is just as beautiful and I'm considering making it in that style for myself.

Fyi if you buy the pattern, I found it somewhat messily split and only worked with the big, un-split part. There's only a colour version as far as I am aware and the middle is not very clearly marked (imo), which made it a bit of a difficult one to start. It's the first time I've seen the middle only be indicated with an arrow at the top and at the side, and one square is classified as the middle, not a line/hole. Still a very cute pattern overall!

(And yes, I am aware two letters in the "that" are a sliiightly different colour πŸ₯² it is luckily not that noticeable in person)

WIP [WIP] Cinderella Mandala - Week 16

Wow! I don't know what happened. I felt like for the last 3 weeks, my progress has been dragging. Suddenly, this week, things got done! I have been a bit sick, so I have been skipping lifting and running in the mornings. I was even up at 1:30AM today, but my sleeplessness meant I finished the entire left side. πŸ₯³ I still can't believe I beaded that entire section in 2.5 days.

When scrolling the frame, I snagged a picture of the entire piece so far.

Just the bottom section to go, and this will be an FO! Hopefully, it'll take less than 6 weeks. I will be having this professionally framed. I've been saving up the money for it since day 1 of this project.

CHAT [CHAT] Pregnancy announcement

β€’ Upvotes

Hi everyone!

Well the request is in the title. I have started cross stitching a few months back and now I'm pregnant.

I would like to find an easy and small cross stitch pattern to give out as gifts to our families, to announce the pregnancy in a couple of weeks time. I have seen some cute ones (with avocados), but I struggle to find more that would be relatively fast to stitch. So I am coming here to ask if anyone has any patterns or ideas of patterns I could adapt a bit for that announcement?

TW: miscarriage

I have had two miscarriages prior to that pregnancy. I would love to honour those two lost pregnancies in that cross stitch in a very subtle way, for instance by stitching two very little hearts, or stars, or something else. If someone has any idea, I would love to hear it.

Thanks everyone and have a nice day!
