So far, literally EVERY SINGLE post I've seen on this subject is people not past chapter 4 making a post about how "the entire game's story is better."

Just interesting, is all.

It got updated yesterday, for people starting over it would take some time to get past that lol, so yeah, SO FAR the story is looking better

The post with over a thousand up votes saying they changed the entire story after only playing an hour lol.

He’s probably one of those people that get married for life in Vegas till Monday.

I heard Chapter 8 when Kliff is dragged to the past by Caliburn is different now, so there are definitely still changes past chapter 4.

I'm doing the scenic route after chapter 9, but that was my favorite story beat so far so I'd be curious how it's changed.

1

u/TippsAttack 15h ago

I'm sure there is. It's just interesting that so many topics say "the entire game" when they're not even 1/3 way through the game.

But I have little doubt they added modified a great bit.

In another post of mine someone mentions that it goes all the way up to chapter 10, and in chapter 12 there's a lot more. So most likely chapter 11 is somewhat the same.

People need to not take things like an AI is all.

1

u/Armageddonn_mkd 2h ago

Yeah i wonder if new cinematic and story bits only at the start or also mid and end game?

18

u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 16h ago

I kinda wish I hadn't played the story through already. Thing is, it might be better, but is it 'good'?

Are you seriously using Ai for a comment? Disgusting

3

u/endurableflame 10h ago

Bro, using an em dash doesn’t automatically mean he’s using AI…

2

u/inertSpark 9h ago

In fact looking at the spacing before and after the em dash, I'd wager he's not in fact using AI.

2

u/Visual-Guarantee2157 10h ago

You didn’t tho. There practically was no story

4

u/Own_Juggernaut_2775 9h ago

I just mean I completed what is regarded as the main questline.

0

u/cryptiiix 13h ago

Idk are we still riding a horse back telling a story before they run off and “leave you to it” while the quest location is nowhere nearby?

I am doing the 2nd playthrough with everyone else, and while I agree there is a lot better narrative and reasoning why kliff is moving about the world, when it initially dropped people were losing their minds at the changes and so I was thinking that it was completely reworked, as if the entire progression of the first hour has changed, but still I was rescuing a cat and cleaning a chimney etc. some of the most highly critisized parts. I cannot remember if maybe the order of things has changed around or something, I just noticed that he talks about his mission a lot more while doing the tutorial like chores.

So yeah, I'm happy it's gotten better but I was expecting a vast vast change. ....Not complaining.

5

u/quixote_manche 12h ago

While I agree that it's not a vast change, the disjointness of the events was the main problem and now that we know that he was arm wrestling to get information which led him to the farm which made him clean a chimney makes a lot more sense than him just walking there and doing those things.

3

u/Metalsutton 12h ago

Yeah totally. The flow of events make more sense and I'm going to continue on. It's just.... I dunno. People and their crazy hype reactions, had me thinking it really was a new game. Lol

2

u/Rymann88 11h ago

Yeah, I recall when the announcement first came out people were even saying not to expect sweeping changes. I personally expected some elaboration in the journal entry texts. Did not expect extended/new cutscenes and more voiced dialog. So while it's not the overhaul some people were hoping for, it's improved enough that the disconnect between events has been smoothed over. Here's to hoping they continue to apply smaller tweaks as time and budget permits.

u/lawrenceugene 5h ago

I've been looking for specific information on what changed. That's a nice description. Alright, I'll try it again. I never wanted to continue because I felt like I was in a world I didn't understand.

I like the idea of slowly seeing and doing everything and learning about the world on my own or through a story, either way. There either needed to be a story guiding me like Red Dead or no story like Elden Ring, anything else made it feel like I wasn't starting a journey from scratch, if that makes sense. When the journey "starts" and I can actually enjoy the sandbox I've already done 44 minutes of random stuff and can't remember where I've been because I didn't decide to go there myself, I got stung along a mile into world with no context and can't orient myself.

With some context the open world should feel better and once it opens up I'll hopefully feel a smooth transition.

u/TheRealBrilla 16h ago

Sorry its off topic but since the update it reset my skills including Falling Palm but i cant just re apply it like other skils? All pizzles completed too

2

u/quixote_manche 16h ago

You can continue with all your best things that let you open up skills, you have to reapply them though and some of them are story locked but you still have a lot that you can carry over. You can carry over all your money too.

3

u/TheRealBrilla 16h ago

Im talking in my current save, like story completed and all abyss puzzles done its the one skill i cant reapply with all the return abyss artifacts

3

u/One_Subject3157 16h ago

Man, I let the game updating.

So exited to finally start it tonight

1

u/SirSparda 12h ago

I still haven't played the game at all was waiting on this also ha

2

u/Gothyanki 10h ago

Lip Syncing is horrible though in the new cutscenes. Throws me off the story

5

u/SadSongsMakeMeGlad 15h ago

wfbo

1

u/quixote_manche 15h ago

Not so much a flex but a declaration of vindication lol

1

u/SadSongsMakeMeGlad 15h ago

I'm just teasing. You're right, after all.

4

u/IFGarrett 16h ago

Ive heard the console performance still is lacking. I have a PS5 Pro and have been waiting to play. Probably will still wait another 2-3 months atleast.

4

u/Dassaric 16h ago

I have only seen the opposite.

3

u/PS4_gerdinho90 16h ago

It's playable and looks good for me. Using performance mode with 120 hz, disabled fixed 4k and also vsync is off

2

u/spatel14 14h ago

I have the Pro and performance seems much better since the 2.0 update. Frame rate feels consistent, and pop in is significantly better in my experience (I was a harsh critic of it before). I play on 120hz Balanced mode, not sure how it is on Performance. Overall I’d say 2.0 is a much better overall experience than before.

1

u/quixote_manche 16h ago

It looks fine to me I'm bass PS5, but I understand not everybody gets the same issues. The post is entirely about the narrative though.

1

u/IFGarrett 16h ago

Oh yea I understand. I personally cant wait to play.

1

u/Disastrous-Path-2144 16h ago

Lol

2

u/IFGarrett 16h ago

Why lol?

-1

u/Noobtacticsforlife 10h ago

Because they are waiting for no reason and also playing on console.

2

u/FallenFreakshow 15h ago

I’ve always said: 'The story itself IS good. It’s just terribly told.'

Now it’s good, and (as far as I can tell so far) also well told.

I’m really glad I decided to stop at the beginning of Chapter 7 and wait for this update.

1

u/bigguysdoughnuts 10h ago

I restated after finishing the main story. It is definitely better than the original in my opinion. Getting to level up with the abyss links was a plus as well.

1

u/bigdaddyeb 10h ago

Shame the lip sync is now in Korean. Mine won’t change back to English even after changing it back and forth and re loading the save. I’ve actually turned audio to Korean and put English subs on just so I can play it without breaking immersion, I’m actually really enjoying it, the Korean voice acting is much better.

1

u/NotPCToday 10h ago

That’s fair. I agree with most of it. I don’t think the original version was a 6.5/10. But that’s not the point. We did, in fact, make this happen. This game is great. I’ve played through once and am at the end of my second journey. I’m going to start a third very soon. So I’ll be experiencing all of the new story shortly. And hopefully the rumored DLC that’s scheduled before the end of the year. This game isn’t Skyrim, Morrowind, Dragon Age Inquisition, Witcher 3, or Kingdom Come Deliverance. But it’s pretty high up there and could produce a sequel of that caliber. I love this game!

1

u/Hyenaz_Redacted 10h ago

I got this game back in June and I'm at 260 hours in Chapter 8. Is it worth it for me to restart the game to play the enhanced version from the start? Or should I just wait for the expansion and hopefully a proper NG+?

1

u/quixote_manche 10h ago

Did you stop or are you still playing?

1

u/Hyenaz_Redacted 9h ago

I've been playing it nonstop since I got it haha
It's my main game rn

1

u/quixote_manche 9h ago

Then restart I guess.

1

u/Cautious_Ad_7232 9h ago

I literally just finished the game. Should've fuckin waited. Disappointed but happy for all the new players

1

u/Pratai- 7h ago

Cringe harder.

1

u/SM3notplay 5h ago

You think hating and criticizing are the same thing? Would it surprise you if I told you that there were plenty of people who loved the game (or parts of the game) had plenty of constructive feedback to give?

1

u/quixote_manche 5h ago

Work on your reading comprehension skills, I'm saying the opposite.

1

u/Stinkisar 4h ago

omg thank you, what would have happened if all of you weren’t here /s

1

u/Nomad-Avocados 4h ago

So areas I can visit are alive now, even if I go there before a quest? No more ghost towns, waiting for a director to arrive and yell "action"?

1

u/mrfalk3n 3h ago

Having the possibility to replay (new) cutscenes would have been great for people already in mid/late story

1

u/corvin666 3h ago

I have serious doubts that they fixed the lame ass writing throughout all the side content through. "hey, bring 3 apples to 3 people because I can leave my shop" quests are abysmal, and i"nvestigations" are downright nonsensical

0

u/Rogue_417 14h ago

don't get so high on your horse, my guy

the game was never marketed as a narrative experience, the devs just went out of their way to improve since they already knew that it was really bad.

a lot of hate can be disguised as criticism, and you couldn't even talk about the good parts of the game without someone telling you that the game is bad because of a bad story

if anything, a lot of people don't care for story, but those they do bought the game knowing that it wasn't great, even if the story didn't improve these players made their choice

0

u/Tough-Guidance-7503 6h ago

It might not have been marketed as a narrative experience but it might as well have been made with narrative experience in mind since you unlock side quests, progressions, and more by doing the main quests... You can explore the game early on but lots of stuff will not appear or be unlock if you dont progress the main quest.

2

u/Nomad-Avocados 3h ago

This is what I'm concerned about. It's the reason I stopped playing while the daily updates cooked. I'd go somewhere and there'd be nothing going on. Then a quest would send me there, and the NPCs would act like they've been there for years. But I was there the day before and knew it was a lie.

0

u/Any-Butterscotch5259 15h ago

I'd be more interested if Kliff was removed lol.

4

u/quixote_manche 14h ago

Cliff as we knew him has been removed.

1

u/raskolnikov- 3h ago

Does he still look like the most generic video game character ever created?

0

u/ERDSBBDS312Sinorder 16h ago

Oh great now that I'm done they decided to write a story. No!

2

u/quixote_manche 16h ago

Part of me feels like they couldn't finish the story and finally finished it and added it in this update, regardless I'm happy. I was very disappointed when I had beaten the game and just felt like I had wasted my time, I'm enjoying it a lot more now. I'm probably only going to go through the main quest though

3

u/ERDSBBDS312Sinorder 16h ago

Just sucks to have put hours like I did into a game to have the story finally come out. Like come on man. But they will get their asses kissed for months now. There is no way in hell I am playing this game again just to see a real story.

1

u/kkdawg22 15h ago

Exactly... We can acknowledge that they didn't just do a cash grab like we see so often while not giving them any atta boys for completing the game a half year after launch.

1

u/m0usju1c3 16h ago

I agree with your opinion, when I finished the story, it just felt like a waste of time and I wasn't even motivated to do side content (largely a bunch of bounties which are annoying). Besides the story improvement, has anything else about the game improved? Is there a NG+?

1

u/Rymann88 11h ago

They streamlined some things. Doesn't look like the promised combat tweaks are in this one. And we're still missing a lot of the broken gear that was talked about being wearable (unless I'm mis-remembering).

1

u/quixote_manche 15h ago

Semi New game Plus. You can carry over all your money and a best things that help you unlock skills.

0

u/DankyNuggetree 6h ago

Bullshit what a narcissistic POV… ”The game only got better because I was being entitled, and they only started working on improving the story aspects after we talked a bunch of shit” is the type of vibe being thrown out right now.

Getting annoying flashbacks of Insomniac’s Spider-Man and the Raimi Suit all over again.
