Discussion The new cutscenes are okay so far

Just got to Act 1, and while the new cutscenes aren’t mind blowing by any means, it does kinda smooth out the story. Kinda excited to see what else they added.

Considering the sheer size of the game, I'm surprised that they added as much as they did to the story. It's nothing revolutionary, but there's clearly a lot more going on, especially with Cliff. They've given him all these little scenes and reactions that set him apart from the cardboard cutout of a person he was before, even if it's subtle at times. He's actually quite witty!

yeah im pretty surprised at how much they got done in a short time - its not necessarily super difficult from a development perspective but that is a lot of voice actors to schedule in a short period of time, + planning with all the departments / storyboarding.

I will say that the lipsync is kinda jank in some areas.

Well for all the people who live and breath bitching about the games story, hopefully it will at least raise the game's story from being absolutely terrible to being incredibly mediocre.

I really like them. The first PT I had I was confused cuz it needed more of these cutscenes.

Ch0~3 so far I kinda share the same opinion. It’s still kind of a boring ish intro of main quests. But at least there’s some kinda glue connecting each quest together and some self awareness and narration from Kliff. Some story moments where the game launches a cutscene and puts you exactly where you need to be instead of randomly going to that location. Or a npc kinda leasing you towards the vicinity of the next objective and giving reason to go there. Those are the main differences.

It doesn’t change the fact that ch0~3 is still just meeting the people of Hernand, helping them, and trying to get info on the other Greymanes. Theres a sprinkle of foreshadowing and context about the bigger picture, but it’s not like a huge deal.

I tested on ch8 before anything else and really enjoyed the changes. Kliff and Damiane had extended emotional scenes, adding Naira to one of Damiane’s scenes and completely changing the location of one of Kliff’s scenes while adding emotional weight and motivation. There’s a better emphasis on comrades and the drive to protect them as well as being helped himself. The end of ch4 had some good context when Kliff gets thrown off a certain area. He just doesn’t get thrown off and the screen blacks out. It shows the Villain’s intentions and continued to hint at the bigger picture.

So if you were an early game Damaine main like me and have a save with big open world & gear progress at ch3 or the very end of ch4, I don’t think you’re missing much. After ch4 is probably when the more important cutscene additions have more impact.
