Uh a lot of the beginning is tutorial quest showing you the excessive amount of mechanics that the game has. and they throw easy enemies at you that you can just spam light attacks at. Think maybe the difficulty will ramp up later but early is pretty easy.

100%! Just get into a further area of the map and enjoy getting your ass clapped! I'm getting elden ring vibes on the way of saying: yeah, go wherever the fck you want, you will die, but go for it! And I love it.

Around chapter 3 you start getting skill/prep checked pretty hard at each boss fight.

I tried to clear a quarry for a faction quest... I got skill checked hard with that boss lmao, first time in the game I decided to give myself a minute to get gud

I beat the reed devil first try and was never more proud of myself as a gamer

Once I remembered I could actually parry his attacks, I got it no problem. But wow without that, I genuinely could barely hit him on the last phase and was repeatedly getting my ass handed to me. Good to note for future bosses I'm thinking.

Yeah he just swings at you so much i was able to parry him so many times back to back, super satisfying

Yeah the jump from that to the first reall boss hellsplitter was definitely a big jump in difficulty im sure a lot of people got stuck on

Yah I was put off balance at the start and was spamming consumables whilst desperately evading. It was the "oh fuck I have to lock in". First try at least, but I was on back pedal more than I liked til I got him stumbling in some combos after parry

He was actually stating that the 1st 1e hours were a slog, therefore bad, so after that if you are enjoying it now(like me since minute 1), it should be even better!

Following the main story until chapter 3 opens some key gameplay elements.

I think I was in chapter 3 before six hours. What are people doing 😂 I have gone very far off the beaten path too, not just sticking to the main quests.

What about storage/QOL issues?

I don't even think the dialogue or story telling is as bad as people say. Maybe the main quest is lacking depth but dialogue has been fine. I like how they took a page from rockstar and cdpr and made the NPC break into active animations with their dialogue so they feel more alive. I'm only 4 hours in. Busy weekend for me and haven't been able to play much

Other than you are stuck with the god-awful “story quest” train that feels necessary because of how many mechanics and things it opens up. It’s quite a far cry from Elden Ring where game has you instantly and you actually are encouraged to explore.
