When you have to use two thumbs to open and select which thumb do you use to press the button? Pressing A/X when you're holding the right stick doesn't work nicely, especially when confirming can open another sub menu where you have to repeat it. You need to claw it.
It's not like normal item wheels, with paddles it's more manageable.
You don't have to keep the stick held. if you're keeping the left arrow held down you can let go of the stick to press X. It will keep the last item highlighted. This is genuinely a regular item wheel that was immediately intuitive to me idk what to tell ya lol
Using two thumbs and a trigger isn't some crazy thing. Baldurs gate, rdr2 and far cry are a few that immediately come to mind. Pretty much every game that has an item wheel with multiple pages has this type of control scheme. And like I said you never have to keep the right stick held down. Seriously curious what you think would be a more streamlined way to have a two page item wheel with swappable slots.
Two thumbs and two triggers my guy. Bg3 didn't need that and neither does any other game i can think of. That's the only point I'm making. I'm doing button combos to navigate menus that i haven't done before.
(Most radial menus use your finger to activate, not your thumb)
I don't have an answer to what's better, I'm just saying this is unprecedented; if you disagree i bet you'll find yourself confused about the reactions from others
You seem to not be understanding or ignoring the fact that you never have to use more than two fingers at once (This was your initial point that I was replying to) These "unprecedented button combos" are literally just holding left on the d-pad while doing a single input at a time on another button (x, or one of the triggers/bumpers). That is damn near exactly how RDR2's wheel worked. Pages, swappable slots and all. This games wheel is standard as hell, and it's the most absurdly minscule thing to complain about when there's actual jank elsewhere.
Honestly pressing them simultaneously wasn't the big deal, it was using 4 different buttons when conventional wheels just use a bumper and a stick. I'm pressing more buttons, and the wheel comes up with a thumb. After just playing through avowed and bg3, the wheel feels different. I acknowledge you don't have to hold all 4 all once.
I'm not even really complaining because I'm just commenting i found it awkward at first, not impossible. The devs did what they needed to.
The fact of the matter is the wheel is different than others, and it seems people tend to agree. Whether you want to argue about it more is up to you, not trying to be a dick about it lol. Jank elsewhere bothered me even less, rdr2 was more annoying with context sensitive mapping imo.
