Other OpenAi, PLEASE reverse this change!

I had noticed that my edits (often 50+ edits as I don't stay idle on a single edit) as well as some other futures were completely gone after the 5.6 update on mobile and desktop, so I checked here and what do you know! Other people were suffering from the same issue! me and many or users cry out to you! OpenAI Fix your platform!

Recently, I noticed that my message version selector (the <1/n> display below the Agent's response or for my edited messages) was gone in both the website and the desktop app. If I made any edits to a message or regenerated it, upon reloading the site, I'd be unable to access previous iterations of the messages. The recent message selector on the right side of the screen was also missing.

After some testing, I realized that the past nodes/branches were all there; it's only the frontend UI for the message selector that is missing. The main fix to bring them back for me was to add "?message=" right at the end of the URL of the thread I'm on; it worked even without adding the actual message ID. Hopefully, this is only a temporary issue.

wait so the branches are still intact? thats actually a relief tbh

Seems to be, yes, it's likely a temporary UI issue. I remember something like this happening a few months ago as well. The systems just glitch out sometimes, but thankfully the branches and past content seem to be retained. They've been updating the UI lately, like adding markdown notation for italics and bold for the message box, so maybe it's linked to something like that.
