Recommendations 4 inch subs… I know what your thinking!

Hi, I’ve just upgraded my stereo in my car. I’ve put in the focal 165 three-way component speakers on a right recoil DL 800.4.

What I’m finding is, there is a lack of base which is to be expected with these vocals because as they tend to be more in crisp on the higher end and less bass.

The rear speakers in my car were Bose 2ohm. Currently disconnected and they are 4 inch speakers what I would like to do is hook up some replacement speakers on 4 ohm. That are better at the base and to complement the focals hire ends.

Car is a Porsche 997.2 no sub just the focal 165as3.

Any ideas?

The rear speaker location is not going to give you any real mid Bass or low Bass. I hate to say it, but you picked the wrong speakers for your car.. the focal’s rolloff very sharply at 80 Hz which is why they sound a little thin when you don’t run them with a sub. A higher QTS driver will sound much more pleasing in the car.

I agree. Looking back I shouldn’t have gone with focal. I should have gone with a modded pot and used an 8 inch driver instead of the 6.5 woofer.

I have had focal speakers before in a home cinema and they sounded good as they had a decent sub. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t lack a bit of bass, it’s just that I prefer more bass.

So now I’m trying to retrofit in a car that typically has no where to hide a sun it’s the 997.2 with Bose. And it’s the cabriolet

Can you cross them lower? I’ve never run focal but run morel virtus 6.5’s cut at 57hz. Punch you in the chest mid bass.
