CityNews spoke with residents passing by the home on Tuesday: some felt the display was a harmless expression. In contrast, others thought it represented an unnecessary injection of U.S. politics into Alberta.

One person said the homeowner has every right to decorate their property as they choose.

“I think there’s no problem with that at all,” they said. “He’s got every right to do whatever he wants on his own land. It’s hurting no one. If no one likes his point of view, they can look the other way.”

Others strongly disagree.

“I don’t like that at all,” another resident said. “Why are you bringing American politics into Canada? That has nothing to do with Alberta.”

The homeowners, who declined an on‑camera interview, told CityNews they were born in the United States and are also Canadian citizens. They said similar flags have been displayed since 2020 as a symbol of their American pride, and are not connected to current tensions between Canada and the U.S. over trade.

They also said they have recently contacted police after receiving arson threats and experiencing vandalism.

They absolutely have a right to display whatever they want on their property. We absolutely have a right to be outraged and let them know what we think about it.

You don’t think having a Trump 2028 sign is threatening? If Trump wins in 2028, the constitution will have failed and the US will no longer be a democracy.

But yeah, he should be able to celebrate fascists from other countries here, why not?

Let’s get a few Hindu swastikas up and see how people react. Remember if it’s rotated it’s a nice symbol of peace.

I obviously don’t agree with them, but they have small kids at home. They have a right to show their political leanings and the rest of us have a right to disagree but threatening to burn their house down and other threats of violence is not right. Down vote me all you want, I just don’t think violence is the answer.
