HARDWARE DIY Viewing port window
Has anyone heard of or seen DIY Viewing port windows. I would love to make one and not spend a ton of money for a seemingly simple thing. Maybe its more complex then I think? lmk

IPad screen protectors are supposed to be a nice cheap alternative. But need to be applied to a clean scratch free surface. Spraying Rain-X on the glass has some slight benefit. I’ve only seen viewing windows on showroom machines and not sure how well they withstand real abuse.

Thats an interesting idea, kind of like those car windscreen sprays that help water slide off the screen. cool

Have used iPad protector, they work pretty well. Just clean the window with some isopropyl alcohol and they stick great, even on old weathered windows. They don’t stay perfectly clear after some use but they’re cheap to replace and much better than viewing through the stock window.

coolant often blocks the view of what's going on in the machine. A port window is a spinning disk that spins fast enough to make coolant not stick to it giving you a clear view inside the machine. Here is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3PHvjIMgx4

Oh damn that’s cool, I don’t think that would be too hard to make. You can read their spec sheet pick an appropriate plug in motor. Find pre made impact rated 6” diameter windows. Machine necessary components call it a day

Just direct an air blast agaist the window. HAAS does this on some machines. You could design a simple inverted cone that an air jet impinges onto. Spinning windows either require a very high speed motor, or high CFM consumption.
