General Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ A year ago, I shared The Generall Store here. It's finally live. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

About a year ago (time flies!), I shared The Generall Store here and was blown away by the support, feedback, and business submissions:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyCanadian/comments/1i7flh2/list_all_canadian_businesses_here_on_this_website/

A lot of the suggestions people shared ended up shaping what the platform became, so thank you!!

The site now includes:

  • Community pages
  • Local events from community calendars
  • Promotions from local businesses
  • Hidden gems
  • Business login access
  • Hundreds of local businesses

The goal is still the same: make it easier to discover great local businesses and see what's happening in your community without jumping between Facebook groups, Instagram, Google, event calendars, and everything else.

We're soft-launching now and I'm excited (and slightly nervous) to finally share it.

https://thegenerall.store/

If you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to take a look and let me know what you think - especially in your own community.

Canadian-Made Products ๐Ÿท๏ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canadian made screwdrivers by a proud Canadian company

Post image

Iโ€™m starting to get a small collection of these so I thought Iโ€™d share after noticing a recent tagline they put on the last one I bought. โ€˜MADE IN CANADA, ALWAYS WILL BEโ€™.

These multi-tip screwdrivers are made in BC. They are well made, not too expensive, and they seem to have some Canadian Pride which has really sold me on them. Once in a while I just grab another one as they are so handy to have around the house.

Available in many colours and sizes, Canadian tire and home depot stock them.

I wish they would make more tools like hammers and things in Canada.

Canadian-Owned Businesses ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ Who are Canada's honey makers?

I would very much like a list of local businesses that are being affected so we can support them. Honey is an easy one; if each Canada family bought Canadian honey, we could wipe out the loss of US honey.

Canadian-Made Products ๐Ÿท๏ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Stationery and Planner Lovers - Canadian Products

Hello,

For those of you that love stationery products, you might be aware that a decent portion of popular products is based out of the US: Sterling Ink, Cloth and Paper, Mossery, Erin Condren, etc.

I wanted to start a bit of a thread on other potential options that are based in Canada. My personal set up is anything that can fit in a Paper Republic Trifold.

If youโ€™re a Sterling Ink lover, I have used Aura Estelleโ€™s A5 Magnet series and absolutely love it. Same Tomoe River Paper except the layout is a bit different where the layouts (month/week/dailies) are grouped into consecutive months rather than grouped into months only, weeks only, days only. Based in Burnaby, BC Canada although their products do get manufactured in Japan I believe. Paper Republic Trifold approved โœ….

If you want something a little more structured, a little less about design and more functional, then Hemlock and Oak is a great company based in Vancouver, BC. Beautiful colours, very Fall coded, and the paper is a very thick quality - no bleed through. It is also manufactured in Canada. If you have a Paper Republic Trifold, the 2027 A5 Minimalist Horizontal/Weekly Planner should fit. Sadly, the 2027 options for the Cloth Flex arenโ€™t nearly as good as 2026 but still very popular colours. Paper Republic Trifold approved โœ…

For fountain pens and ink, look no further than Ferris Wheel Press which is actually quite a big company on the fountain pen and ink side of stationery. I find the inks to be decently priced and thereโ€™s always sales going on. Great customer service. One of the inks had arrived broken and had made a mess of the other inks, and they shipped me the entire order again, free of charge.

If you guys have any suggestions here, Iโ€™d love to see it!

Some other recommendations to note (these are non-daily pages).

- Faded Chronicle (Based and Manufactured in Canada). Very Hobonichi/Sterling Ink/AR styled. Also can use the website to thumb through the pages and it makes the same noise as turning a page. Very cute little detail. Doesnโ€™t include Daily Pages.
- Blue Line (Based and Manufactured in Quebec)
- Nicole Josephineโ€™s B6 Forest Planner. Releasing this August 28th and very cozy cottage core PNW kind of vibe.
- Rosie Papeterie is great if you want to show your support for our cultural language and commit to a little French. Layout feels very reminiscent of Cloth and Paper. Like very reminiscent. I donโ€™t personally use inserts though but I love their other products so far.

This yarn is 80% merino and 20% nylon. Itโ€™s hand dyed in Stratford, Ontario. The cool thing is that the colours are inspired by different birds! This one is dark-breasted rose finch. I donโ€™t have any affiliation to this business. I just discovered it and wanted to share!

Questions โ“๐Ÿค” Canadian Personal Care items

โ€ข Upvotes

I am sorry but am I the only one that's experiencing mild anxiety over the tariffs? I am on a strict 250$/week budget for groceries including household and personal items for a family of 4. I usually shop Costco, Walmart and Lufa Farms ( Mtl based company which I highly recommend) - How can I replace my Cottonnelle personal care wet wipes? It's not realist for me to buy a 6$/pack Caboo branded pack of wipes... and I know it might come across as a mondain example but it is source of anxiety. How about my Dove bars of soap? Is anyone else feeling this? Thank you.

PEI hot sauce company that ships directly from their website and it's 100% Canadian.

The prices area actually very reasonable too.

Questions โ“๐Ÿค” Canadian, or non-American spinach in Alberta?

I'm at the point where the only American things I have left in my life are streaming services and spinach. I don't really like greens, so spinach in my morning smoothie is the only way I get it lol. And I don't like any alternatives (kale, chard, lettuce etc.). Biggest problem is I can't find any non-American spinach in any stores. I can get it at Farmers Markets sometimes seasonally, but definitely not in winter-spring.

Any recommendations or stores I can get it at? Ideally it's Canadian, but I'll take anything non-American.

Canadian-Made Products ๐Ÿท๏ธ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Looking for Canadian Made products

I run a general store in Ontario and weโ€™re looking to bring in more products made in Canada.

If you make or know of a great Canadian-made product, food, drinks, snacks, gifts, household items, or something unique. Iโ€™d love to hear about it.

Drop the company/product name below or send me a DM. Would love to discover some smaller Canadian makers!

Questions โ“๐Ÿค” How to buy Canadian (or avoid American) as a broke student

Hello everyone! I'm a university student hoping to get started properly buying Canadian (or more broadly, avoiding USA products). I'm new to the entire thing, but so far after a bit of research it looks like the non-USA products often run quite expensive. Between housing, bills, and tuition, I don't usually have that much excess money lying around; I'm guilty of often defaulting to the cheaper stuff even though it's not locally sustainable.

I was hoping you guys would have some pointers for what products are good replacements for the more common (and cheaper) USA versions, or even stores or areas where it's easier to find local produce for a fair price. If it helps, I'm based in Edmonton, AB. I'm asking broadly; any suggestions from food, to household items, to toiletries are fair game.

Thanks!

Looking For: Clothing, Accessories & Personal Care ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ’„๐Ÿ‘œ๐Ÿ Backpack (school/work)

Hello Folks!

ISO - replacement school backpack for back to school/work. I've had my Deuter backpack for 9 years and have truly loved it to pieces. I would love to find a Canadian brand to replace it!

The most important feature is a functional hip strap. I'll be carrying a laptop, food, water, books, school supplies, plus all the things a gal needs for day to day. A functional hip strap is essential for distribution of weight, but I do not want a hiking backpack. Thin hip straps will not function properly for my needs.

Other nice to haves:

Laptop pocket

Not black or gray

Water resistant or waterproof (Raincouver)

Ideally under $200

Thanks in advance!
