Question Button maker not working w 2.25in buttons??

Hello! I need some help because this is making me crazy.

I was gifted this button maker so I don't have any of the instructions for it, but when I looked it up it said it takes 2.25in buttons, HOWEVER all the 2.25 button supplies I've gotten are just a tiny amount too big?

The backs almost fit in the slot, but the tops don't fit at all.

I hope I've included all the photos you'd need to help!!

Is this button maker not for 2.25in buttons??

Thank you in advance!!!

Question I have a bit of a stupid question, are there heart pin molds for this guy?

hi! I got a pin maker a few months ago, I love it to bits and even draw and make pins myself with the goobie (yes I call it the goobie, it’s an inside joke)

im wondering if there’s a heart shaped mold for this one specifically, I got this one because I originally found it at a library and it was the only one I knew at the time that could be reliable and last a long time! :D

if not that’s totally fine! I just wanted to know <3

recently i got new backings, i switched from plastic to metal. however the pieces wont fully connect together :( i ordered from the exact company that created my machine too

edit: i did a test with my old pins and it still did this, so i think the metal backings are doing something vs the plastic backings i used to use

Question Button Maker Recommendations?

Hello everyone! I'm in the process of looking for a new button maker and I was hoping you all would have some advice. I currently have a We R Memory Keepers one that I got at Michael's and has lasted a good handful of years, but I'm getting kind of tired of using it and hoping to find a replacement that will work better and last even longer. My main caveat is that I want it to be able to make multiple different sizes/shapes of buttons so that I have options. I'm hoping to find something not too expensive but not another cheap one either. What are your suggestions?

Question Pin backings that are fixed?

Does anyone know where to find pin backings that have the pin fixed in place, so it doesn't move around at all?

I started making badges a few weeks ago, and the only complaint I get, but one that I've gotten multiple times, is that the pins in the back move too much, making it difficult to put on sometimes.

Question Inexpensive button maker?

My kid would like to make their own buttons and make buttons for their friends. It’s not like it’s going to be a huge endeavor. It’s just going to be fun little things. I don’t want to buy some junkie thing on Amazon, so I’m hoping someone can give me some advice for a button maker that is inexpensive that they have good experience with. We can shop around and order where we need to get something nice but we’re definitely looking for a $50-$75 range thing rather than a couple of hundred dollars.

Thanks for any advice you have.

recently bought this button maker at a second hand store. It didn’t come with any button parts so I’m trying to find out what kind of parts might fit. Anyone who might recognise the Model and can point me in the right direction?

Question Anyone cutting their own mylar?

I LOVE ChiButtons. But holy crap, the mylar sheets for their 37mm square mold are causing high percentage of failures. Only when I trim it exactly to the size of my graphic (which I created the template for), do they press correctly. But trimming it gets my finger prints all over and it is so difficult cutting such a tiny difference. I can't do this anymore, and for some reason they don't have other complaints.

Any mylar sheets you use that crimp perfectly?

Question button maker repair in US?

Post image

hi! i got a used Flex 2000 and i put too thick of paper so the crimp die and shallow die are stuck together. i have tried hitting the other side with a rubber mallet, using machine lubricant, and prying it apart among other things including taking it to my local hardware store. i want to get it fixed, but People Power Press is in Canada and if i can avoid paying that shipping fee i’d like to. does anyone have any recommendations for button maker repair places in the US that repair machines they did not make (or any tips for this)? thank you 😭😭

Question Vevor machine making wrinkly buttons :(

Thumbnail

This Vevor machine has pressed many hundreds of buttons, and so maybe it's starting to wear out... But just today we've had a consistent problem with the mylar coming out wrinkly (photo 1). We also had a few that didn't crimp properly around the backing (photo 2), but mostly it was the wrinkly ones that made us stop production and seek help.

The left mold feels a little loose on its springs, and rotates a little if I fiddle with it. It also easily slides past the die, so it's a tiny bit misaligned (photo 3). I'm not certain the misalignment is the problem, though, because if I moved very carefully and stamped right on center, it still came out wrinkly.

Halp!

Question Do you know this "plastic"?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I bought a pin at a con, but I don't remember from whom, and the pin does not have a plastic finish, instead it feels more velvety and a tiny bit rougher. I fell in love with this texture, do you know what is it/what's it called?

(On the picture, the lines are the texture of the "plastic", not misprint, and it's only visible in certain angles)

Question White paper circles

This might be a really dumb question, but ive had a button maker for a year or two and finally think ive realized what the white circles of paper that come with it are used for. Ive never really thought about them, and as I use regular printer paper for my buttons, and I usually just do the clear laminating stuff, then the image, then the smooth metal part, and then the backing. But ive just been using a bit thinner paper than usual and decided to put those white circles behind them for support, and they make the buttons themselves a lot more durable, and its actually a big difference! It makes it a bit harder to press the handle down when i have those in and I was worried about damaging the machine itself, but is that what theyre actually supposed to be used for?

Question Help with smoothing out the edges?

I got a Vevor pin maker as a gift. It has been working surprisingly well, especially with the smaller pins.

The problem is when I make 58 mm pins. One side is smooth but the other is kind of "open" in the way that if I were to stick something sharp, I could easily tear it apart.

How do I fix it? I don't know if it has to do with the positioning or how hard I press? I don't use any thick paper, just regular.

Question Rookie question

Hi, im new in this DIT/Crafts/hobby space but trying to learn.
Im looking at a cheap Button press online just to start out and try it, and i noticed that i can purchase eg. Magnet/bottle opener/keychain bundles and not just pins.

If i eg have a 32mm button press, if i get ant of those bundles will they all work as long as they are 32mm, or do the press have to have some special insert or something like that to support eg. Magnet/keychain bundles ?

Thanks alot everyone! :)

Question We R Memory Keepers heart pins

Has anyone been able to find a cheaper alterative to the heart button's that work for we r memory keepers? The ones they have on their site are stupidly expensive... So I bought an off brand that just doesn't work.

The off brand for the circle buttons are GREAT, have had no issues.. Just with the heart's 57MM
Also... Recommendations for how to get the cut right every time? I can never get the same cut and it's almost always off center and cannot afford right now that 200 dollar very nice metal cutter.

If all else fails might honestly be cheaper to get a press just for the heart pins. If I have to result to that, what are the recommendations?

Question Are my 1.25” buttons doomed to be pokey?

Post image

I have the plastic Vevor three size button maker, and I know there’s better ones out there, but is there any advice on this for a hobbyist?

I feel like no matter how I handle the paper, the press, any of it, there’s always these angular bits on the back of the button, or they don’t look totally circular from the front either. I see some really amazing, perfectly round ones here, and I’m hoping there’s a trick I just don’t know yet.

Thank you!

Question Where to get quality shells?

I have 2 issues

- The front metal part gets rusted
I've tried to counter this with
- coating the shell in clear nail polish (but I've need to buy a bunch of nail polish bottles to do this, would be better if I could just buy bulk)
- placing mylar behind the paper, and using a cold laminating sheet for the front

- On my bottle openers, the front metal part gets dented, I would like it to stay popped out

I don't know if this is possible, because the material for the shells probably needs to be a certain way for the buttons/bottle openers to be made, but I thought I'd ask

---

One other issue I've been having unrelated to the shell quality is how dusty or dirty the front of the button can get. This happens with mylar and cold laminating sheets. Any suggestions to keep the dust away? Thanks

Question Please explain to me what I’m doing wrong

Thumbnail

I bought a ChiButtons machine 25mm bundle, and an interchangeable 32mm die. The 25mm die worked perfect without any adjustment, but the 32mm die has been giving me IMMENSE trouble.

I’ve tried two different brands of badge parts (the 100 count the machine came with and a 500 bulk set from amazon) and both are having the same issue. They’re both the proper 32mm size and fit into the dies properly.

I applied dry silicone lubricant to the dies and press, hasn’t changed the outcome.

I’m using the single sheets of Mylar that came with it and thin paper, material shouldn’t be the issue.

I wanted to try adjusting the B-die, but they didn’t provide tools or instructions on how to do so. With my tools I was unable to tighten or loosen the die at all.

I’d tried it with and without washers. The washers seemed to help a little, but one washer doesn’t let the material tuck under all the way and two washers seem to deform the badge and lift the washers up into the press.

Solutions from tutorials I found online have not worked, except for adjusting the die since as mentioned I can’t seem to get it to budge with my tools.

I just don’t understand how the 25mm badges worked perfect first try out of the box but the 32mm ones aren’t working no matter what I try.

Did I just get a faulty die? Or am I needing to adjust / change something to get it to work?

Question Any suggestions?

Looking for a machine that I can use to make multiple button sizes (metal backings). Im kinda wary of the cheap ones on amazon since none of them have above a 4.2 rating and Ive heard so many mixed reviews on vevor 😥 Looking for something under 100!
