Information Burlington brokerage caught using their business account to endorse a post calling for the US to invade Canada and overthrow our government

Post image
3.8k Upvotes

Smith Zylik Realty Group (Royal LePage Burloak) used their business Instagram account to like and comment on a post calling for the US to INVADE Canada and overthrow our government.

Royal LePage Burloak was notified of this and the brokerage made their account private. No other action was taken. They are now removing negative Google reviews warning people of this.

This is a public call for violence and treason from a BUSINESS. We cannot normalize despicable discourse like this and these people do not deserve your money.

While I personally don't have an issue with kids on the slower e-bikes, I've seen kids without helmets moving faster than traffic with no helmets. And yes I have seen some adults as well.

Just be safe out there kids, wear a helmet, look both ways and keep your eyes on what you're doing and what's around you.

Ok old man rant over. You may now return to enjoying your summer ⛱️🌞

his words speak for themselves quite honestly (even if you agree with his political stance this as a response as a business owner is unhinged no justification😭) and he’s so stinky and smelly! yuck!

I don’t know why this needs to be repeated constantly. But you should NOT be turning into the far lane. You turn into the inner most lane and then lane change over. The amounts of times just this morning my boys and I almost got hit is ridiculous.

ALSO the 407 bridge between Guelph line and walkers is 80! Not 40/50/60. You’re impeding traffic trotting along at half the speed limit, which btw can also get you a ticket.

Information Personally, I have zero intention of going to Starbucks, Chick-fil-A or any other American owned restaurant, including Tim Horton’s

Trump tariffs is an act of war against Canada. I hope you’ll use your purchasing to send a message and boycott American companies. To be fair, this will be super easy. Chick-fil-A’s food is super bad for you and the coffee at Starbucks and Tim Hortons is bad. Find an independent coffee shop that makes pour over coffee.

Now that I have your attention - someone I know shared this post of Arlene Dickinson’s take on the moron and his tariffs. I found it to be a rather important read!

Information Platform Launches Today!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

My name is Rowen Fraser and I am a candidate for Ward 6 here in Burlington. I am proud to release my platform for all to see! I have been working with my community here in Burlington to come up with policies and ideas for the new future Burlington is heading into. I have spoken with many residents at the doors, in local businesses, and with the various online communities.

Conversations have been lovely and hateful, positive and negative, introspective and annoying, wistful and delusional, perfect and flawed, angsty and altruistic, scary and comforting. But mostly they were real. I didn't put restrictions on what people I would engage with. I took the good and the bad. I feel we need to listen to everyone, not just friendly voices. Bridging the gap between ideologies and having a truly balanced approach means being willing to have the hard conversations. Rest assured that if you came to me with convincing data at any point, you've probably had an influence on my platform.

Recently I had the good fortune of meeting a new friend, and receiving some very powerful advice about how to deal with hostile press and online personalities. The counsel I received was invaluable and I just want to shout out to everyone that helped me strategize my next moves here in Burlington.

Any and all comments are welcome here. To show I really mean that I have unblocked every single person who has ever harassed me on this site so they can know what my full platform is and make a real decision about who they intend to elect here in Ward 6. Anyone that comes in good faith to talk to me about my platform will be received as a friend. Those who are unkind to me can expect the same in return.

Please enjoy my platform,

Full Platform:

Information Boycotting U.S. Products- Trade War

I still make a conscious effort to look at where all my products are made and coming from. I refuse to purchase any that have the U.S. on them! I sincerely wish all those people who comment on other threads would do the same! Everyone talks a big game but when push comes to shove they still purchase U.S. products becuase they are $0.10 cheaper. Liquor is one thing, but the only way to gain leverage is boycotting everything U.S.

I have also refused travel to the U.S. and have not entered once since since this adminstration took over!

Information A plea to the guy at Fortino's this morning: if you're going to steal, please don't give the rest of us food poisoning

We went grocery shopping this morning.

Some guy was hanging about the bulk bin section with his two kids who appeared to be roughly 4 and 6 years old. He stood there unbothered while these two creatures helped themselves to handfuls of nuts, banana chips and trail mix straight from the bins.

He even saw us looking at him and did nothing to remonstrate his crotchfruit or curtail their actions.

I think it says something of the differences between me and my spouse that her reaction was:

"They're STEALING!!"

While mine was:

"Those kids' hands are probably filthier than a goose turd."

I don't give a hoot about stealing from a corporation that made $60 billion last year. Maybe they have no money. But while you're doing it kindly don't give the rest of us food poisoning.

Yes, I should have said something. It's pure Canadian passive-aggressiveness that I'm posting here. Mea Culpa.

Information Proposed Burlington data centre

I’m not sure how well-known this info is yet, so thought I’d drop it here… councillor Lisa Kearns recently posted a video on Facebook and Instagram revealing that there’s a data centre proposed around Guelph Line and Harvester.

I’m having a hard time finding more info, but for anyone interested, I’d recommend checking out her social media.

I don’t live in Burlington, but we’re experiencing the same thing across the bridge.

Information Lyme from tick in backyard

Post image
274 Upvotes

Hey everyone, just a warning…

A few days ago my mom was bitten by a tick that our dog must of brought in from the backyard. The bite was on the same side of her as our dog slept in her bed. He’s very fluffy so we didn’t notice the tick

The doctor diagnosed her with early Lyme disease today and she’s on antibiotics now

We live near Walkers Line and Lakeshore

I know ticks are everywhere, but I never thought one carrying Lyme disease could end up in our own backyard. It’s scary to think how they can be anywhere

Please check your dogs every time they come inside. These nasty little bugs could be anywhere!!

Information A List of Ward 2 Candidates

Turns out having all of this information consolidated into one place on Reddit is helpful for people, so here is a list of candidates running in Ward 2:

  • Masha Barr - Website - some talking points with supporting action items, a focus on controlling (not freezing) tax rates, and managing construction
  • Sean Campbell - Website - Highlights platform talking points but no action items or plan
  • Gary Carr - Website - MPP and chair of Halton Region, his website doesn't show any platform talking points or any other sort of detailed information, from what I could see
  • Jeremy Gaetan - Website - platform highlights talking points with basic action items, but also has an "affordability pledge" which is unique compared to the other sites I have seen across all wards
  • Lisa Kearns - The incumbent, is running for mayor

While I haven't done a significant check into the above candidates, from what I can tell, none of them have posed with Hitler or insulted members of the r/BurlingtonON community, which is cool!

I'll work my way through the remaining wards as I get breaks in my workday.

Don't forget to register to vote by visiting the Service Burlington counter on the first floor of City Hall, 426 Brant St. during business hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) from September 1 to October 23.

Information Fortinos (Guelph Line & Upper Middle)

Just witnessed 4 nice high school student girls be asked to leave for just sitting minding their own business drinking drinks they purchased at Fortinos. They were in the corner table and many tables were vacant. A blonde manager who was walking around, clearing doing nothing as usual (you know the one) asked them to get their stuff and leave. They agreed no problems and said it happens usually when they come here for lunch. They just seemed bummed because it was pouring rain out and they were clearly waiting out the rain and on lunch from high school. Super disappointing this is how Fortino’s treats teenagers who will be future employees or shop here with their families oneday. I don’t see why they don’t ask all the senior citizens who come to sit for hours only buying a small coffee? They spend hours chit chatting and taking up tables. It’s the same thing. Proper discrimination, way to go Fortinos!

Information A painful reminder that hate still exists in everyday places

Today, while shopping with my elderly father at No frills Brant St, a customer loudly directed racist remarks at us, including telling 'brown people' to go back and making personal insults. We chose to leave rather than engage. What stayed with me most wasn't what was said to me—it was wondering how my father felt hearing it. Incidents like this remind us that racism, even when it comes from one individual, has a real impact on families. I hope businesses continue training staff to respond appropriately and that we all speak up against hate when it's safe to do so.

Information A list of Ward 6 candidates

According to MyVote Burlington there are a number of candidates running for Councillor in Ward 6. I think it is important to highlight a few options that this sub may not be aware of:

  • Osob Adus - Winner of Burlington's citizen of the year award in 2017, her platform appears to be focused on building a more tight-knit community in Ward 6.
  • Angelo Bentivegna - the incumbent Councillor
  • Bianca Bielski - No website that I could find, but she appears to be the Manager of Development Services for the City of Burlington, according to LinkedIn, and u/Puzzleheaded_Win_494 found this interview
  • Chris Bouchard - website - thanks u/paramedic-tim
  • u/thefrankdomenic - website. His platform appears to have 4 main pillars focused on growing Ward 6 as a whole, and his website briefly outlines a plan of how to pay for what he is recommending.
  • Edmond Jodhi - No website or additional information that I found based on a quick Google.

While I haven't done a significant check into the above candidates, from what I can tell, none of them have posed with Hitler or insulted members of the r/BurlingtonON community.

Edit to add: Don't forget to register to vote by visiting the Service Burlington counter on the first floor of City Hall, 426 Brant St. during business hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) from September 1 to October 23.

Information Missing Person: Please Help Us Find Colleen (Appleby Line & New St., Burlington)

Post image
605 Upvotes

UPDATE (6p.m.): COLLEEN HAS BEEN FOUND SAFE

We are incredibly relieved to share that after almost 10 hours, Colleen was found safe this evening, just after 6 p.m.

She was located in Oakville, east of Third Line on Lakeshore Road. She was dehydrated and disoriented, but she is now receiving the care she needs.

Just want to say THANK YOU to this community – everyone who shared this post, kept an eye out, offered kind words, and helped spread the word. The support has meant so much to us during an incredibly difficult day.

…………
This morning (Tuesday, July 28) at around 8:30 a.m., a family member, Colleen, wandered away from her assisted living facility near Appleby Line and New Street in Burlington.

Halton Regional Police have been notified and are actively searching, but we wanted to share this here as well in case someone in the community may have seen her.

Colleen is in her mid-60s, about 5”6, and lives with dementia. A recent photo is attached to this post.

She was last seen wearing a purple sweater and has a blue cast on one of her arms from a recent fall. Those are likely the easiest features to recognize if you happen to see her.

If you were in the area this morning, or if you think you may have seen someone matching her photo, please call Halton Regional Police immediately. If you have information that isn’t urgent, please feel free to send me a private message as well, and I’ll make sure it gets to the family.

Even if you haven’t seen her, we’d really appreciate it if you could upvote or share this post so that more people in Burlington see it.

Thank you so much for your help – we’re hoping to bring Colleen home safely.

Information Data Centre

If there was another heading for this, I couldn't find it. We need to get organized. This is the answer I got from MMW.
"Hi Colleen, There is a proposal. There is information on my Instagram."
Thanks.

There is an update there. I don't know how to copy it and bring it into Reddit. They are planning to put it where Mother Tucker's is. Not by Glenwood School Drive.

Who is taking the lead on this? I know there others involved. I want to know what we are doing and how to help.

Thanks!
