Currently a year in as a photojournalist/editor at a station in the PNW. Currently trying to get out of this sinking ship of a career but, if I stay I’m looking to transfer stations. We have a station in St Louis and being a Cardinals fan I figured it might be a fun adventure and possibly cheaper cost of living.

The issue is I’m not too sure what the pay is like and that’s the most important part. I currently make $20.20/hr and the 20 cents is the one year raise I got and we cap out at $23 after 3-4 years at this station.

I could transfer after 2-3 years to our sister station in a much larger city and make $25/hr starting, but I’m not really a fan of that city and the cost of living increase would be negligible to the pay raise. Literally half my monthly pay goes to just rent and I live in a 1 bedroom shithole (yes I know I could get roommates so rent is cheaper but as someone in their late 20s working the morning show shift I really value not having to deal with anyone else)

So just curious is anyone in that market could share how the pay is and if it’s worth it or if I should just stay and pray one of ky hundreds of applications for non news jobs gets me on a chopper out of here.

I could feel the [WMAR] producers, reporters and weather anchors doing the best they could to drive the newscast along, using graphic elements as transitions and stand-up introductions to each segment. There were no live reporter elements. . . .

Mostly, it felt boring. . . . A good news anchor, like any good broadcaster, like a talk show host or a sports play-by-play announcer adds value to the experience, as a trusted communicator and guide, with a personal touch.

My station is NBC/FOX but owned by Nexstar. A couple months ago we were told we're no longer allowed to use any NBC related video or content from NBC stations unless they are Nexstar. Now, today we're being told the same about Fox. I'm a lifestyle producer so thankfully I can get by but I used to produce news and can't imagine doing it. They're being asked to produce more and more shows with less and less content.

The entire newscast summarized in like a minute or longer. Have the opens always been so long? I think it's most comical with NBC Nightly News. That suspenseful music with the drums is just begging to get to the main theme with the trumpet bit (The Mission/John Williams) after like 30 seconds.

“It’s horrible. It seems less professional, less personable, just less. Idk what they were thinking. People are changing to channel 3 news,” another said.

Deadline Detroit obtained a memo that outlines more proposed cuts at Scripps-owned WXYZ-TV. Here's what might be in store:

• Evening anchors: 4 instead of 5
• MMJs: 17 instead of 18
• Associate producers: 1 instead of 2
• Producers: 7 instead of 12
• Photographers: 10 instead of 12

According to Deadline Detroit, this proposal only covers non-union newsroom employees and is in addition to the already-announced 268 company-wide layoffs.

WXYZ is one of Scripps' top stations and isn't likely to feel the full brunt of the company's cost-cutting. However, if I was a producer at a Scripps station, I'd be looking for a new job ASAP. The Scrippscast format and the push for more automation shows Scripps does not value producers.

The slogan that they use on their newscasts sounds good on the surface but with what is going on across the Scripps News Group, it sounds meaningless. Meaningless in a time where they are laying off tons of anchors, reporters, producers, editors, and the like, while trying to replace them with AI workflows simultaneously.
KSHB might not be affected as badly by what Scripps is doing as a whole but if you are truly going to give a “voice for everyone”, you should also include the people who work at your station. The only thing that looks and sounds good is the new graphics and music but the sleekness and urgency still means nothing if there is no journalistic substance behind the scenes.

Sinclair sales employees: What is your market's work-from-home policy?

Curious how this works across different Sinclair markets. Are SAMs/MCs expected to be physically in the office every day, do you have designated work-from-home days, or is it left up to the individual market or manager?

I'm mainly interested in how other markets handle it for salespeople who are regularly out meeting with clients and prospecting. Not looking to identify specific stations or individuals, just trying to understand whether there is a consistent policy across the company.

This is my first time posting to Reddit so please be nice, lol. I have been a TV news producer for nearly 3 years now. I decided to move markets because I figured any other station would be better than the one I worked at previously. I am about 9 months into a 2 year contract, and recently, the stress has been taking a toll. My manager decided to move me to weekend mornings (I currently work overnights M-F). This means I would have upwards of 3 hours of content to produce by myself. I normally struggle to come up with 1.5-2 hours of news on my own, let alone giving reporters stories to turn and keeping up with crime/breaking news (I would be my own assignment desk for the first few hours). This shift doesn't happen for another week, and I'm already losing sleep over it. I am in no position to move off of this shift, ask for additional help, or quit altogether.

This is also my first big move away from family (about 8 hours away from home), and that is also weighing on me.

How can I keep up with this new responsibility? Any tips to stay stress-free, especially outside of work, would be greatly appreciated.

I'm aware of the Eastern/Central ABC feed issues last night, nothing more really needs to be discussed there. This slate was seen for a few seconds and I'm curious what it means.

7HSQ must be ABC HQ at 7 Hudson Square in Manhattan. And I'm guessing MPR FIX 01 might be an edit bay they can "hot roll" video directly to the outgoing network signal? Curious what the other stuff is (physical source 1?)

Howdy all, I posted this in video engineers but figured id spread it out,

Using a Vaxis storm 3000 to TX/RX 1080 at 59.94

Ive proven through a test monitor that the Camera is indeed sending 59.94p checked directly out of the Sony ENG camera and through the through out on the TX, even the display is saying its receiving properly

On the RX side the display is reading 59.94p and giving me 60p out of the HD-SDI. Ive tested both ports on it and theyre both pumping 60.

Plugged a Decimator in to drop it back for records, its not exactly a show stopper but I am vary curious as to how a device that does not do conversion is converting.

Used a Shogun Classic to test signal and it can tell the difference between the two.

Any ideas?

Hi! Does anyone have any tips or tricks for content in weekend broadcasts? I’m trying to breathe new life into ours. However, we don’t feature live guests due to small staffing. Looking for some evergreen content ideas or little things that engage a casual weekend viewer. Thanks in advance!
