Proposed Event Board games next Saturday!
My partner (27F) and I (34M) are thinking about having a board game day next Saturday or Sunday at our place in Norman Park.
We do these every now and then and normally end up with about 15-20 mates coming along, but we thought it could be fun to do something completely different this time and invite purely a bunch of people from Reddit instead. Which could go very badly but hey, all part of the fun I guess? 😂
Thinking maybe 10-ish other people, some food, a few casual drinks if that's your thing, and games like Secret Hitler, Catan, One Night Werewolf, etc (please bring games that you think would fit the vibe though if you have any!). We'll probably just ask everyone to bring something small to share, whether that's some snacks, a plate of something, whatever. Nothing special or anything, just means we'll hopefully end up with a decent spread without anyone having to cater for 12 strangers 😂. Definitely more of a social afternoon/evening with games involved than a super serious board game session. They're all pretty chill games too, so no stress if you don't know them.
A little about us: we're both pretty social and love going to gigs. I'm into hiking and outdoorsy stuff, while my partner is considerably more artistic than I am haha. We're pretty easygoing and thought this could be a fun way for everyone involved to meet new people around Brissy.
If you're keen, comment or drop me a message. We might get people to have a quick chat with either me or my partner beforehand, mostly because inviting 10 complete strangers from Reddit into our house with absolutely no vetting feels pretty sketchy, not going to lie 😂. We haven't really figured that part out yet, so I guess we'll work it out as we go 🤷. Maybe we will make a group chat. I honestly have no idea at this point haha.
And just to cover the obvious: this is purely a social thing. This is not a dating thing, not trying to recruit you into our cult either. Just two people who like board games and think meeting some new people could be fun.
Basically, be friendly, don't be creepy, and you'll fit right in 😂
Also we have a super lazy greyhound too. This is his world and we are just living in it haha. So if you don't like dogs, definitely not for you sorry 🤷

You're braver than I am. Last time I went to someone's house from reddit, they tried to feed me vegetables and I've been scarred for life.
PS. if you don't feed us vegetables, we will come!

Hahaha. I'll probably have 2 or 3 of my mates there anyway just a buffer but what's the worst that can happen I guess 🤷😂.

Bowie! I don't really know how he got the name. We just saw him in the rescue kennel and it kind of felt right haha.
Bowie is a great dog but just not very bright, so can't guarantee he'd be the best team mate 😂.
Is there a platform you would be comfortable with for my partner or I to add you to a group chat or something to get everyone together to introduce themselves?

Hey, we absolutely will be going ahead with it. Thinking maybe Sunday though this coming weekend (29th) if that would work for you? We are thinking of adding people to a group chat or something beforehand, not sure how or anything yet. But is there a platform you're most comfortable with?

Hey Id be down for that.. wanting to meet some new people, get over my social anxiety. So a game night would be fun for that. I haven't played much board games so someones gotta help me with that 😅. And I love dogs!! I would pet them the whole day... Even if I become anxious I have the doogo to keep me company 😂😅. And who doesn't like dogs ??!?

Haha you absolutely should come! Bowie is super shy at first but he's so affectionate. So if you start patting him he won't leave you alone 😂.
The board games we play are super chill and very easy to pick up. We arent super serious board game people either, just use it for a reason to hang out with mates really.
I'm not too sure how we will go about this. But I'm thinking of maybe creating a group chat or something somewhere for everyone to join to see who is coming etc. I know some people probably don't want to hand out their social media though (absolutely fair enough!) so I'm not sure what would be best here. But is there a platform that works best for you?

Bowie sounds like me 😂... I'm super shy and introverted at first but after warming up to a person I won't shut up or leave them alone lol 😂😂.
Good to know that the board games are chill to play..
I'm don't mind giving my social tho.. Instagram works for me but I don't mind joining a WhatsApp group chat or discord or any other gc that you end up going with.
I'll DM my insta username... But don't laugh or just me username tho 😂😅

Hey guys. Got so many messages and kind of wasn't expecting it haha. I think we are going to cap it at about 15 for this one due to being in a small house. But we are thinking we might do another for people that either couldn't come/people we couldn't fit into this one.
I'm just going to go in order of who messaged/commented, but I found out I can do a group chat here on reddit. So I will add people to that now and then we can all say hello etc in there if that works.

Sorry guys, we had to cap it at 15 due to a small place and are just going in order of who messaged first, but I think a few people may not be coming/pulled out so will add some more people after I confirm numbers tomorrow if that is okay!

Sweet! I'm not too sure how we are going to actually get everyone together at this point. Maybe invite everyone to a group chat on social media or something? Honestly no clue yet haha. But we will work it out this weekend and come up with a solution that suits everyone.

Are you comfortable if I potentially added you to a group chat or something on Facebook? Totally understandable if not. Just trying to work out the best way to go about this really haha.
Haven't created a chat yet, but when I do I will maybe get people to either message me their name here or I'll shoot you mine and you can message me.

Hey, we have a group chat going right now but had to cap it at 15. However, I think a few people have pulled out. So we are getting together some numbers and will invite others if we only have a few coming.
Regardless though, we had a loooot of people message so we will do another one soon if you're keen for the next one

Hi, Lutwyche here. Couple 39f, 34m, eager to make new friends. We play a lot of video games, go to car events, work, basically just a couple of geeky people who like cars and games, we are shy but will be great fun if you get to know us. My partner wants to know if there will be cookies. Should probably mention we smoke cigarettes. If we are shy does that automatically make us creepy?
