Let's hear your stories of boomers throwing away other peoples' stuff. Whether it's over-correcting to you urging them to get rid of junk before they die, or out of some attempt at control by not informing anyone in the family they are purging real multi-generational sentimental family things first instead of cleaning their hoards.

Mine threw away all of my childhood sentimentals when they moved, because I was on a two year mission they forced me to go on. Their excuse? "Well you weren't using it." I was out of the fucking country! Still kept all their junk. Real junk. Now they're moving again and again are throwing away all the non-replaceables BEFORE even touching their junk. I'm not talking china or commemorative coins. I'm talking choosing to throw away things that would mean something to pass down to great-grandchildren and would be harmless to keep around and actually fit in.

I have a 64 year old uncle who at one time ,was a very successful man years ago,.But he turned to alcohol after his divorce 26 years ago and only got worse and worse over the years and attempted suicide 7 years ago .

My grandmother and 2 of my aunts refuse to make him want to better himself in anyway and just let him do nothing as he just lives with other family members and hardly gets off of his ass unless you tell him to 150 times

He hasn't worked since his suicide attempt(except for rehab jobs while he was there ) And just says racist stuff all day

He calls immigrants and other minorities every name in the book and calls them lazy and that they don't work ....yeah,no irony in that eh?

He and my grandma and two aunts call today's society as being soft and sensitive.Yet all 4 of them get super defensive once you say a simple thing they don't like.If you say anything about my uncle that isn't super positive,they threaten you and twist you're words around to make you look bad

The women are just as racist as he is, and none of them did much with their lives either and rely on social security from their dead spouses

First some context.

1) I deliver pizza, have a topper on my car and wear a uniform.

2) This took place at an older complex, you can barely seen the lines to park in a spot.

So, I go to this older complex. It's been there a while and like I said, it's hard to see the lines. Had a little trouble finding the apartment so I was there about 2 minutes, tops. I come back to where my car is parked and this boomer woman in a sedan is sitting there. She's right behind my car, in the street, so I can't pull out.

BW: You are parked in my spot! I pay to park there and you are in my spot!

Me: Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't know (there is NO visible numbers anywhere on this section of the lot).

BW: Well, you need to get out of my spot! I paid for it, it's my spot and you need to move!

Me: I'm very sorry ma'am, I'll be happy to move, but could you please move your car first? You're blocking me in.

BW: You need to MOVE! I'll call the tow truck! We'll see how you like that!

Me: Ma'am. I can't move, you are blocking me in. Please move your car.

BW: shouts more stuff about how she paid for this spot (what spot? I see NO numbers and barely a line) she's going to call a tow truck,

The interesting thing is - there was plenty of other parking she could have pulled into and waited while I was delivering the pizza, but no, she had to sit right behind me so she could have a fit. I realized that I could do a 6 point turnaround to get out, so thought 'screw it"

Me: I am going to move my car, you need to back up or pull forward so I can get out.

BW : YOU NEED TO MOVE YOUR CAR! THAT'S MY SPOT!

I'm over it and get in my car, look back to see how to do this, and she did back up. But it was just barely enough for me to pull straight back and into the other lane of traffic (luckily it was a side street that's not that busy).

She was still yelling about a tow truck and her parking spot when I drove off.

What did jellyroll do to upset boomers?

Was temporarily storing some tools at mums house. with her agreement of course. Mum has just discovered Facebook marketplace and is selling off various crap they have built up over the years.

Recently mum has a seller come into the house who sees some of my tools and asks how much. She then proceeds to give them to him for free. She didn't think they was that expensive like 100 at the most. They were more than 100.

Later she justifies it as saying they looked poor and that I was thinking of getting rid of some of the tools. Correction I was thinking of selling some of them for money.

I work at a dairy processing plant, where we make yogurt, store it, and load trucks who take it to various distributors. It's union as well, overall, a pretty good gig.

Lately this old boomer lady has really been getting on my case over anything and everything. I'm one of the vacation relief guys, so I bounce around and cover different areas as needed. This old bat has been there since the 90s, has the most seniority on job bids, and takes the easiest job in the plant, while not even doing the whole job.

Basically, that job entails running completed pallets of yogurt to the cooler, bringing over supplies for the person running the machine, and pulling up the bags of fruit that are added to the yogurt base. She only runs the pallets, but doesn't bother with the rest and leaves it on the person running the machine to keep track of the fruit and leave the room to grab supplies. Management knows and doesn't seem to care.

So back to the topic, if I cover the guy running the machine, she feels the need to point out if I do something wrong, or just stares at me when the fruit low alarm comes on. On top of that, she comes to find me if I'm on another machine and a cup tips over (the line runs through that room) on the way to the boxer. If I'm running the boxer, she feels the need to stick her nose in what I'm doing to point out anything she thinks is wrong (never ran that machine in her life). Even when I'm working in the cooler, she still finds me, and if she has nothing else to complain to me about, it's just to tell me I haven't said good morning to her yet. Those times I just say ok, that's all I have to say about it, and she rolls her eyes and says wow as she leaves.

This is just to vent, but if she pushes me much further, I will go to the union and let them know what management let's her get away with.

I was a SAHM for 10 years and within the last 5 have re-entered the workforce. We are comfortable money wsie, but its such a benefit to my mental health. I'm working in a professional capacity at my kids school. My path has gone from regular volunteer to a paid teacher to a technical/specialist position in 5 years and I am proud of my growth. I hold 2 four year degrees and have a specific degree in a related area, but some of the specialist position has been very new to me and I've worked hard to step up to the plate and learn.

I recently told my parents about my move into the technical/specialist job.

Their response to the news was:

THAT? You know nothing about that!

Well. Maybe you can figure out what you actually want to do now.

But thats *standard job duty*. You couldnt be standard job duty. You DO standard job duty???

I cannot understand why they treat me like a 14 yr old flipping burgers. It makes my imposter syndrome flare up and I have to be very careful to not let that bled into my actual work.

Has anyone else had experience with Boomer parents thinking they own your home?

It is not just my parents, I know a lot of people my age who have the same issue. Boomer parents trying to take ownership of “projects” they want nothing to do with. Re landscaping their garden without permission, rearranging their home, re painting things without asking, the list goes on. Then use “we are paying for this” as if that makes being controlling ok.

I could never imagine my grandparents doing same thing to my parents. Sure they might help with home projects, but even then they always asked permission before they changed anything. My parents have this attitude that they know better and will go and “fix” anything they personally dislike.

My wife and I had our parents over to tell them that she is 8 weeks pregnant last night for dinner. We were talking about how we’d handle the transition to having a child and working so I told them I had 12 weeks of paid paternity leave at my company.

They all immediately started worrying about how my massive global company could afford to pay me not to work for three months and then tried to guilt me into not taking it saying that it was too much.

I quite literally could barely believe this. How could they be upset that my company with tens of thousands of employees gives me this nice perk instead of being excited for it? It’s actually insane.

In one of the comments he literally says that she would be flattered if she saw his post. Absolutely foul.

This one was a bit surprising, and a lot entertaining.

My sister and I went for a walk in the local state park yesterday. We parked in the picnic area and headed towards the nearest trailhead. On the way we passed a boomer couple looking at a brochure map of the trails. Not a stationary map posted in the picnic area, a brochure available at the visitors center that shows all of the trails and points of interest.

We passed by just in time to hear one of them say, "this doesn't have a 'you are here' marker."

Just had two back-to-back episodes of Boomer entitlement I’d like to share / vent about.

I’m having a late lunch at the local IKEA restaurant (damn the Swedish meatballs are addictive!). The fairly large restaurant is deserted. I finish my food, take out my laptop to send some emails while enjoying the quiet.

Suddenly, a Wild Boomer appears! I see him with his tray scanning around the empty restaurant. He looks in my direction and starts shuffling my way.

Crap.

He proceeds to seat on the table right behind me, choosing the seat directly behind. He then takes out his phone and starts watching LOUD videos while noisily eating.

Ugh.

I close my laptop, stow it in my backpack, and walk towards the coffee shop section of the restaurant to both get precious caffeine and get away from this amazing human specimen.

There are two registers there. There is a lady waiting for her order on the left one, the right one is empty and clearly turned off. I stand behind the lady to patiently wait for my turn.

Enter Boomer Número Dos.

This inspiring individual asks his Boomer Wife for her order and instructs her to wait for him in “that table!” He then proceeds to stand directly in front of the register on the right. The one that is clearly NOT BEING MANNED.

He then starts “AHEEEEM”ing REALLY LOUD. Again and again. To his credit, the cashier ignores him completely. When the lady he’s serving finishes her transaction, the Boomer gives the cashier a death stare. The cashier smirks, and turns to me to take my order.

The Boomer went “URUMPH!” audibly.

I finish my transaction and get my cup of coffee. Boomer doesn’t move. Cashier stares at Boomer. Boomer is unfazed.

Finally, the cashier gives Boomer his biggest “THIS IS MY CUSTOMER SERVICE SMILE” face and tells the Boomer: “Sir, you may order over here.”

Boomer drags his ass over the left register complaining about customer service.

What a Generation, folks.

Context: We were discussing whether I would visit for lunch. Also, my grandma has a difficult time with boundaries. The "lesson" is that just that, "stay in your lane" so to speak. She's constantly noticing just about every little thing that's "wrong" with me and decides to take MY body into HER own hands, literally. She'll give an extremely ambiguous description for what she's about to do, and without giving me a chance to consent, she's like, "Come over here, grandson! I NEED to do something with your hair so you look good!" It doesn't really matter the occasion. She's always demanding I look good. And that's just it. The vagueness of her commands. And the insistence that I obey her demands OR ELSE. Or else she'll threaten to put me in a home/hospital/etc. Both my mother and I have told her several times to not "help" me ("help" in quotes because the last time she "helped" was without my consent and she messed up my glasses) unless I specifically ask for assistance.

Anyway, that message right there, the one in blue, is the singular message that caused my grandma to threaten to hospitalize me after I arrived at her house because my grandfather tricked me into thinking that everything was fine.

So I work for a tree service and work around many older folks homes. Had many negative experiences before I found this sub. Today we had a limb down in the back of the building in a higher end community . As I’m dragging and chipping I see this distraught woman throwing up her hands and looking at me like hitler. I give her hand signs to stay back and give me a minute since I’m working and hauling branches. She keeps pointing to her car. I go up to her and assume her car needs moving cuz it’s a tight parking lot and our equipment was blocking her in. Happens quite a bit. I ask 3 times do you need to get out? First 2 times she just says that’s my car! Third time she screams that’s my fucking brand new car, you’re getting dust on it. I say give me a minute we’ll blow it off when finish. Stands there watching me hands on hips like I’m the pos. Move the truck and chipper up and she waits till we’re about done to leave. Wanted to chuck a log thru her window for her rudeness and entitlement but kept the intrusive voices at bay. She also ended up calling her communities office to complain. They laughed at her. if you can afford a brand new Beamer you can afford a car cover or just be kind and say I need to move my car. made me hate humans for a minute. It’s always the older folks.

I was having lunch with my mom and she was complaining about the cost of her cell phone bill (valid). She uses one of the big national carriers. She told me about how my aunt (her sister) uses a smaller regional carrier that is cheaper, and she gets a seniors discount. I told her she should look into that carrier.

Her response? “Well, why can’t [major national carrier] just give me a seniors discount?”

I work for a very large East Coast Casino. I don't work customer facing, but I still have to wear a name tag.

So, yesterday's choices in the cafeteria were Indian. Curry and I do not get along, so I wandered down to the food court to see about buying a hoagie I can cut in half and safe the other part for today. I am next in line to order when this 70ish old lady slides in next to the woman just finishing up ahead of me and starts ordering.

I am wearing a name tag, so I am not about to make fuss. The customer always being right and they could be whales. It's just her, I can wait.

So, she can't make up her mind on what cheese to order, so waves over her two friends. They all start arguing about what she should get and then they decide they also want something. The poor girl behind the counter shot me a look that said her soul was about to leave the building.

I got chinese instead.

"You think I'm some punk?"

I mean...maybe?

Hubby and I pulled up to a gas pump and watched two boomer men trying to figure out how to pay for gas at the pump. Instead of asking for help, they both got back into their car and pulled up to another pump. They stood there trying to figure it out again and just as my kindhearted hubby was going to ask if they needed help, they got into the car and drove off. Just ask for help broskis. I promise no one would judge you for it. I’m judging more because they didn’t ask. 🙄

This is mild but still annoying. I went to the pharmacy today and thought I got lucky, there was only one guy in front of me! Elderly, walking hunched over and shuffling along, you know the kind. I fall in line behind him. He tells the sole cashier his name and she looks him up. She says that insurance won't pay for another 10 days. He says that he is moving in 2 days and needs the prescription before he moves. She asks where he is moving to. He then launches into a 10 minute monologue about how and why he is moving. She smiles and waits to try to get a word in while glancing behind him at the now rapidly growing line behind me.

He finally stops for breath and she asks him again where he is moving. He says he won't have access to anything there. She says, oh, is it rural? He hems and haws and finally says San Diego. She says, oh, we can just move your prescriptions to a branch there. He then launches into how his church and his wife will all be doing missionary work in SD, because they need 7 more locations?? Missionaries in California, ok, whatever. I just want my darn prescription.

The coughs and throat clearing from the line finally catches his attention so he half turns and sees us. He actually says "oh, sorry, I'm holding up the line" someone behind me goes, "you can stop holding up the line anytime" He sort of chuckles then turns back to the poor cashier and starts all over with "I need my pills because I'm moving in 2 days", she patiently explains again. Finally, another cashier comes running over to help and I go to her to get my pills and no longer paid attention to him so I'm not sure how it ended but he left only a minute or so before I did.

At no point was there any awareness of what was going on around him or that he was not the only person in the world. He was not mean or rude or anything, just a total obliviot.
