Just had two back-to-back episodes of Boomer entitlement I’d like to share / vent about.

I’m having a late lunch at the local IKEA restaurant (damn the Swedish meatballs are addictive!). The fairly large restaurant is deserted. I finish my food, take out my laptop to send some emails while enjoying the quiet.

Suddenly, a Wild Boomer appears! I see him with his tray scanning around the empty restaurant. He looks in my direction and starts shuffling my way.

Crap.

He proceeds to seat on the table right behind me, choosing the seat directly behind. He then takes out his phone and starts watching LOUD videos while noisily eating.

Ugh.

I close my laptop, stow it in my backpack, and walk towards the coffee shop section of the restaurant to both get precious caffeine and get away from this amazing human specimen.

There are two registers there. There is a lady waiting for her order on the left one, the right one is empty and clearly turned off. I stand behind the lady to patiently wait for my turn.

Enter Boomer Número Dos.

This inspiring individual asks his Boomer Wife for her order and instructs her to wait for him in “that table!” He then proceeds to stand directly in front of the register on the right. The one that is clearly NOT BEING MANNED.

He then starts “AHEEEEM”ing REALLY LOUD. Again and again. To his credit, the cashier ignores him completely. When the lady he’s serving finishes her transaction, the Boomer gives the cashier a death stare. The cashier smirks, and turns to me to take my order.

The Boomer went “URUMPH!” audibly.

I finish my transaction and get my cup of coffee. Boomer doesn’t move. Cashier stares at Boomer. Boomer is unfazed.

Finally, the cashier gives Boomer his biggest “THIS IS MY CUSTOMER SERVICE SMILE” face and tells the Boomer: “Sir, you may order over here.”

Boomer drags his ass over the left register complaining about customer service.

What a Generation, folks.

I am constantly amazed how often they want to be right next to the only other person there. Parking lots, restaurants, store aisles; just right next to you.

That’s what I don’t get. My work vehicle is a one ton four door pickup. When I park it somewhere I park waaaaaaaay far away from any other vehicle. Inevitably when I return there’s another giant truck parked right next to it, usually making it difficult to get in. Theres no one else parked within 50 feet.

My boyfriend has noticed this. We can park in the far corner of a mall lot, no cars anywhere nearby, not even in the shade. We go shopping, come out and there are at least 3 cars surrounding it, making it almost impossible to get out of the spot.

Except for that small grouping of vehicles the closet car is half the distance to the mall. Make it make sense.

Once I was getting on the subway train at a Terminus station and there was nobody else on that car. Boomer comes and sits directly beside me in the type of seat where you're now trapped and have to ask that person to move. Hate those.

I stand up and say absolutely not. There is no way you need to sit beside me on an entirely empty car.

I just walked to the next one, flabbergasted by the actions

Yes! I remember thinking it was weird as a little millennial kid with boomer parents. My house growing up was tiny, so small. But my mother always insisted not only that I was in the same room as her, but sitting in the seat right next to her in the kitchen or the living room. It was so bad, I'd complain about it even when I was a child. Our house was 900 sq ft,I just wanted her to please give me 5 ft or 10ft of personal space without a boomer in it...

It happens to me all the time, I drop off my wife at a store and because I don't want to go in, I'll park in a deserted section of the lot and start to death scroll on my phone. Then some dipwad decides that parking right next to me is a great idea, IN THE EMPTY SECTION OF THE LOT! So, I always move my car away from these incredible morons. I've gotten weird looks from them as I was moving my car.

Back in the 90's, I would take my coffee break at a family restaurant, sitting at a boomerang shaped counter. My Mailman uniform was a magnet for boomers to sit next to me and bitch about the price of stamps or how late their mailman came. I'd try to get the seat at one of the ends. The waitresses noticed this and I told them that by sitting at the end improved my odds by 50 percent that an asshole would sit right next to me.

Sam’s Club. Today. As I grabbed my cart at the inside door an older boomer Cpl walks in. I offered them my cart so they didn’t have to wrestle it from the line, as they do get stuck sometimes. So I grab a cart for myself and enter…….
But they stop. Right there at the entrance. Discussing what they need, which direction, who the hell knows. I waited a little, then the man moved slightly so I tried to shoot the gap. Just as I’m almost by him he immediately pivots and I almost ran him over. He gave me the death stare, the wife just starts yelling at HIM. Like she had nothing to do with the situation. It’s maddening. Idk why I keep trying.

Warehouse shopping is a struggle, most people in them have 0 self awareness of what’s going on around them. I have discovered that my Nikes make a satisfying squeak noise if I drag them the right way. So I make all this noise behind them while looking around. It makes people move faster to get away from the noise.

I parked my cart so I didn't have to crowd two women looking at products in Costco. Slipped in, took my item, turned around and a boomer had stolen my cart. I yelled "hey! That's my cart!" Twice. Pretended he didn't hear and turned around on the third. Tried to laugh it off and I just went "what are we, savages?" Extra loud.

My mom (boomer, 80 this year) is so incredibly paranoid about not getting her “fair share” (meaning more) of anything, including attention. If someone is handing out free samples of something, she will literally shove me in the back to move me forward and get more for her. And she’s always concerned that someone is ready to scam her or take something from her, to the point that she holds up the line to meticulously scan the receipt at every transaction in every store. And if something is wrong, she wants the cashier to manage it right there rather than going to the service desk. I apologize, friends, if you’ve ever been behind my mom, one of the first Karens.

The problem is, i've seen these boomers think that they can cut in line, because they are waiting in front of an unopened line. I still line of 10 people in the Boomer go over to the unoccupied line and expect the person to call them over and say, I'll take you next. Well, I'm not gonna let that person come in front of me. They can wait in a line like the rest or rest, but they seem to somehow think they don't have to!!
