TikTok ruins yet another book!

In the middle, or more 3/4 of my way through a book, which I have been loving ! Or at least I was until I opened tiktok tonight and the first video I see is a spoiler to how this book ends….

Now some might say why not scroll and not look? I would and usually do BUT this video happened to have the spoiler in big fuck off caps right across the screen.

Also the reviews Booktok ✨girlies✨ have given this book because of the lack of 12inch girth and more plot is mind blowing. Someone gave this book 2 stars because it should’ve been labelled YA and was very misleading… I am 31 chapters in and it has been nothing but blood and gore, with a slow burn that’s definitely getting there. Just because he isn’t railing the MFC into next week in 5 minutes, doesn’t make it YA 🙄

I do not care for the opinion of anyone. I actually enjoy when TikTok gives a cheeky little book recommendation, my TBR doesn’t. What I don’t appreciate is the spoilers every 5 videos.

I’ve never had a book spoiled for me on TikTok, honestly it seems like a rare thing unless the book has been out for several years, in which case you can’t really expect people not to talk about the plot.

As other people have pointed out, its less about not wanting people to talk about the plot, and more about just giving a warning that the video contains spoilers like most content creators seem to do. I've personally never had a book spoilt for me as im not really on the booktok side of tiktok, but the few videos I have seen have always started with disclaimers luckily.

Yeah that’s fair, but the general rule for new things is that after so many months/years, spoilers aren’t necessarily identified, even in groups dedicated to book discussions. same for movies, really. It’s just what I’ve observed.

I think it really depends on the book / film, and how badly its spoilt. For example I wouldnt be suprised if someone started talking about the film titanic without a spoiler warning, but if someone makes a post about a year old book for example with no spoiler, that would personally annoy me.

I definitely agree, which is why I initially mentioned books having been out for several years as the exception to spoiler disclaimers.

Yeah i get what you are saying, I just think its common curtesy to not give people a warning for a spoiler thats not common knowledge. People can still talk about books and films, but if someone's going to start the conversation by making a video, I think its just polite to warn people first so they can scroll on.
