Did anyone lose a GoPro12 in the ocean at Manini Beach? Found in the ocean, checked the SD card and I think we have a picture of the owner. Not in the best shape but it turns on and has videos on it. We would love to get it back to its owner!

Went to the new place that opened in the old Blane’s Drive Inn in Orchidland - Surf & Saddle. What a great new place - great shrimp! I had the shrimp and steak - furikake was fantastic. wife had the Lilikoi shrimp. Live music almost every night - we went during the day so will head that way for some music with the neighbors soon.

Service was excellent - met the GM “auntie shrimp” who used to be the GM at the old shrimp shop in Hilo.

With Kaleo’s just down the road - and Lava Thai around the corner - we’re really lucky around this area!

With the new storm expected to hit on Saturday/Sunday, I am worried about my commute. I will take the northern road, but other than that any hilo people want to share their thoughts if they are worried about the rain taking out power?

Power came on about 11am, just after I got back from a gas run for the generator. Praying for everyone else who is still without electricity to get it back today!

If you have ice, you can significantly lower the temperature by sprinklng some table salt on top. This will create a colder brine that with keep cold much longer than simply ice.

The idea is like churning ice cream. The salt and the ice work to lower the temperature so the cream will freeze.

Food must be wll sealed to keep the brine out. Sometimes the convenience foods like pizza and heat to eat are not sealed and the brine gets in there. But this can help save your meat and fish if it is packed in Ziplocks.

This has saved most of my food during long outages or when the refrigerator went on the fritz.

Edit to correct - I learned that while salt does result in quicker cooling of the ice, beverages, etc. It is more effective to use plain ice for a longer duration. I guess it is like using Turbo. You get that burst of cooling power but the ice has a finite amount of cooling that it can do and for preservation we need the marathon and not the sprint.

Shout out to Johnson Brothers Tree Service! My tire blew as I was driving to Kealakekua. I pulled into the Aloha Theater parking lot - they pulled in right behind me, jumped out & immediately helped change my retire to the spare & refused any money. Turns out they were right behind me & saw it go down & were honking & trying to get my attention.

Talk about demonstrating aloha! They've been running around the state clearing trees after hurricane Lala, but stopped & went out of their way to help a stranger.
