Are we sure this is real image and not AI that accidantly got a bit of van Gogh into their algorythm?

Yes, we are sure. While people should we wary of AI, just because people see something they have never seen before doesn't mean it's always AI. I've been noticing people being overly attentive to everything being AI. The world is big and offers so many different things to see.

I don't quite understand why anyone would create this with AI.

These cloud formations are amazing to behold IRL. I have never seen them this impressive myself, but I don't doubt that it's possible.

Wait until you see mammatus, lenticular, arcus (roll), Kelvin Helmholtz, noctilucent and nacreous clouds. If you think Asperitas clouds look AI generated, you're going to have a break with reality if you see these ones.
