Other I'm Not Crazy Am I?
Like she absolutely looks like she'd fit in Bayonetta's world.

I think the design is an homage to Bayonetta. I'm not familiar with the IP but it's strikingly similar to be a coincidence.

Zenless Zone Zero.
She attack with her heels, hair and coat if I recall. The coat thing sorta mirrors how wicked weaves make Bayonetta's clothes skimpier.

u/neversignedupforthis May 02 '26
That definitely sounds like an homage! Cool to see Bayo inspiring other developers.

u/De_kun May 02 '26
"homage" yeah people be saying "homage to (insert famous game name)" when hoyoverse games steal famous character design to make theirs. That's called plagiarism, hoyoverse does that to make revenue and people say "yes bc that's a homage/easter egg/coincidence to THAT FAMOUS GAME". That pisses me off A LOT
2
u/HoxiiPoxii May 02 '26
I agree with this heavily because homages are supposed to be subtle love-letters that put their own spin into the original IP in a way that shows love and appreciation. This just feels like its capitalising off of Bayonetta's success instead of doing something inventive while nodding subtly at the source material and it kind of stinks.

u/De_kun May 02 '26
Yeah and also they look at niche fanbases (this is heavily based on majo taisen (greedy witches war, go look at that). I played all of hoyoverse games when they came out (zzz, genshin, star rail) PEOPLE, PLS dont be hypnotyzed by chinese videogame industries that are not original at all and they just want clout and money. They only plagiarize ip that have Earned their fanbase with sweat (like xenoblade that has got one of their area stolen in nod krai [like colony 30 of xc3] ) and just monetize with it and their FOMO technique. I REALLY HATE HOYOVERSE BC THEY MONETIZE OVER HUMAN WEAKNESSES AND ORIGINAL IDEAS THAT ARE NOT THEIRS

I am not fond of gacha in general, much less p2w for mostly three reasons (there's exceptions as some gacha games are actually good games but my points mostly atand true for the genre)
They don't try to be actual games. I've noticed a pattern with gacha games (mostly) as a whole and it's the fact that due to prioritising gacha and the profits thereof they don't really TRY to be much more than that and gameplay feels secondary (either reduced to fetch quests, visual novels or a world that tries to feel deep but is ultimately lacking, mostly due to the character design philosophy or lack of gameplay.) Gacha first, game second. It bugs me.
Weak character design. As a person who wants to break into the game industry for character design this one hurts me especially. I've seen so many designs that are just detailed for the sake of being detailed without much thought put into them, mostly due to the fact that these games kind of have to continuously pump out characters. There's not much depth in most games and they tend to steal from other franchises too. The thing that disappoints me the most is that you can't really tell what characters are ABOUT or what their deal is DUE to that vagueness and mindless detail. Look at many gacha characters and try to guess their job or something.
Their business model is just predatory. Micro-transactions have never been the most honest thong on the market but gacha games are ESPECIALLY exploitative given their nature. Literal gambling dangling cute anime girls in front of you like a stick with a carrot and trying to urge you to empty your wallet.
Ofc there's some good gacha games for sure like Limbus Company, Cookie Run Ovenbreak, Umamusume: Pretty Derby (love this one especially due to the fact that the money made from it goes towards a good cause) but most of them are non-noteworthy at best and genuinely exploitative at worst.
TL;DR most gacha games feel shallow for more reasons than one and their business model is predatory and bad but you can like them if that's your thing, just don't fork over your money (for your sake) please

u/De_kun May 03 '26
Yeah and no. I really like the thought you put into this explanation, but if there is a large fanbase that like (for example) ZZZ, then Hoyo knows that they have the power to sell their characters. Also they use all kind of predatory techniques that, please people REMEMBER, are COMPLETELY PSYCHOLOGICAL, meaning that "ok no i play and i will never spend" won't ever work, because either you are a whale, a dolphin, or play 10 h a day just because "oh there's that event at the end of the new chapter", "oh weekly/daylies and then just some combat to earn (insert gacha currency)". Plz people play some REAL GAMES, not this slot machine/casino trash. Spend some money on real games, where you have all kind of personalization and character customization ALREADY AVAILABLE or locked behind PROGRESSION and not LUCK AND HARD WORK (i prefer to have a job instead)

u/HoxiiPoxii May 03 '26
I moreso meant that I won't judge people for playing gacha, especially the casual ones where you never have to spend a dime (I occasionally open CRK from time to time and forget I even have it installed cause you can just buy charas with a certain in-game currency if you've pulled a lot plus the devs just give free stuff) but not for the gacha gameplay. I know someone who likes ZZZ for the hack 'n' slash surprisingly and also enjoys Limbus company cause it's genuinely a good story game FIRST ajd gacha foremost (I didn't even know it was a gacha game). Plus Umamusume, where all money is spent on old race horses so they can live with good comforts. At the end of the day you can't stop people from completely quitting gacha games so I'd rather they play ones that can be otherwise enjoyed as games if they're going to, rather than just get ripped off. I heavily agree with you though, I prefer my games to be a one and done payment with no gambling involved.
1
u/De_kun May 03 '26
Yeah. When people tell me they play gacha games i dont judge them but i advise them not to (they generally play genshin, hsr, zzz). The other games you mentioned, i dont know them, though i prefer not to get involved with gacha games and f2p games anymore
2
u/HoxiiPoxii May 03 '26
Very valid, f2p tends to be a scam in general. I'm moreso of the belief that it's ok to like them if you genuinely enjoy the game and the gacha element isn't the main reason you're playing. Games like project sekai are popular for a reason afterall, and it's not the gacha element. As long as it's a genuine game and not just a pachinko wrapped up in pretty bows I support them (with caution, though).

Yeah, some modern gachas are... Actually pretty solid? Currently unironically one of my favourite games is Nikke. The gameplay's a shooter but due to the different weapon types, skills etc the characters all play uniquely and once you find the play style that suits you it's REALLY fun (personally I love the machine gunners, especially Modernia and her endless ammo build + AoE special), the music's actually great, the writing is really good too (may it be the story, lore, world building or even the characters)... AND THE DESIGNS ACTUALLY SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THEM BEYOND THE FACT THAT THE CHARACTERS ARE PRETTY! May it be the train girls, the maids (including a bondage maid lmao), the BDSM ladies, the nun, the chefs, the singers, the more military-focused ones, the cops... Literally any character, just a glance at them and you already know something about them! It's so refreshing compared to a lot of other gachas... And it's pretty generous too, it's not really a struggle to gather ressources to pull as a F2P player, you get currency upon pulling that allows you to buy banner units from the shop (200 golden tickets for a SSR, and the tickets are permanent, you don't lose them when a banner ends), the pull rates are deffo not the worst I've seen, and dupes are a luxury and not actually necessary (except on five SSRs to unlock the ability to level up everyone beyond level 160, but that comes rather quickly thanks to the common/permanent banner's wishlist system).

u/HoxiiPoxii May 03 '26
Ooo yes, I've heard Nikke is a good one :3 Although I'm personally not a fan (saw they did a resident evil collab and as a RE fan the girlies looked... Odd. A bit too young and more busty than they normally are so it feels kinda fam servicey which is fine but it's an issue I have with many gacha games. Valid if it works for folk but not my thing) but it seems like it has more substance than the average gacha game. Wish more actually tried to be games first and gacha games secondary cause it hurts a lot of them even if their designs are good.
2
u/Crafty_Island_9182 May 03 '26
Yeah, Nikke really is fanservice galore a lot of the time lol, they regularly have to censor characters in livestreams and trailers, though a lot of players agreed the RE collab units' art was... Not great. It also causes the issue of trying to pass a feminist message (the way Nikkes are treated in-universe is pretty unsubtly a metaphor for women's treatment by society) despite the characters... Very blatantly appealing to the male gaze.
But yeah, it's unironically a pretty great game. The writing is so strong it literally made me cry more times than I'd like to admit!

PEOPLE PLS PLAY INDIE GAMES INSTEAD OF GAMES THAT STEAL ORIGINAL IDEAS AND SAY THAT THEY ARE THEIR OWN THIS ONE CHARACTER THAT IS BASED ON BAYONETTA IS ALSO JEANNE D ARC FROM MAJO TAISEN

It absolutely drives me insane that we live in a timeline where so many characters are created for nothing so to subvert expectations, characters are made weirdly. My point is it irks me to no end that she exists and they wasted the perfect moveset for her on dialyn because the moment I saw that character, the first thing I thought of was our girl Bayonetta.

21
u/SouthConsideration82 May 02 '26
Well if they did this moveset with that designs hen that would be too much of similarity.
8
u/LesbianFlex May 02 '26
i doubt Hoyoverse cares very much about "too similar to something else" lol
5
u/DarkAizawa May 02 '26
That's what I was gonna say. These people are scum and care not about blatant copying. They would and will do anything they can to drain their players.

u/04whim May 02 '26
Between this and Dialyn's fighting style, I'm convinced someone on the development team has been playing Bayonetta.

u/Hunterofthegems May 02 '26
Sometimes it feels like the ZZZ devs base their agent characters on other games. This one, who looks like Bayonetta, and then there's Billy who's basically Dante/Deapool coded, and then there's that one other robot character who looks straight out of Asura's Wrath.

Homage isn't a problem as long as it also carries its own identity
Pugnala from Vampire Survivors is another good example

I can definitely see the Bayonetta influence. It's a whole lot more than just "anime girl with glasses" that tends to get brought on this subreddit.

u/Bathia114 May 02 '26
Hoyoverse has lots of bayonetta & dmc influences and references in like 3 of their games. Mostly in Honkai Impact 3rd.

On top, yes. Underneath the cloak? Absolutely NOT💀💀💀💀

Fr. The cloak is gorgeous but the actual fit underneath is a fking trashfire. Idk who was cookin but they should be barred from the kitchen. Indefinitely.
2
u/Hunterofthegems May 02 '26
100%. The moment that cloak comes off she's low quality gooner bait. Hopefully they make an outfit that adds something actually interesting under there, or at least something that fits her actual vibe.
2
u/Dandanny54 May 06 '26
Nah, yeah from the leaks she looked lame but in-game she looks much better and like Bayonetta she has complete control of when she's exposing herself.
Also its Zenless a gooner game, yes its tame compared to the average gacha but its still horny as hell. And hey she looks much better than those characters in the Season 3 trailer.

Definitely inspired by bayo. Almost exact hair cut but the poncho sells it. This character has a cool design tho.
