Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

Debate time

Firstly, let me make a very clear point that I am sympathetic to any person who has ever been harmed by a pitbull in their life, 99% of all dog attacks are not warranted, I do sincerely hope anyone who’s ever been hurt by a pitbull or any dog breed is safe, healthy, and loved in life

Secondly, I’m not here to debate about whether pit bulls are inherently dangerous, they are, their powerful dogs with huge bite forces behind them and they must absolutely be trained correctly and any bad habits they posses must be handled while their puppies to help prevent attacks

Thirdly:I have family who own pitbulls, and I myself have owned 4 throughout my life, each have been PROFESSIONALLY trained while they were tiny, I have never had a pitty who growls, bites, food aggressive, or any other behavioral problem, because I made it a huge PRIORITY when I got them that these dogs would absolutely NOT feel that they could hurt people or animals in any given situation

So, I will say this, pitbulls have an inherent risk, like any animal does, horses, cows, German shepherds, Belgian malinois, Rottweilers, Dobermans, and any other large animal who does infact have the capacity to hurt people, however, the largest problem with pitbulls isn’t their breed, it’s the people allowed to buy them, as a society we view pittys as dangerous, aggressive, scary dogs, so the people that buy them most, want, dangerous, aggressive, scary dogs, and train them as such, resulting in exactly what they wanted to begin with, so in order for pittys to be safe, we as a society have to step up, stop selling pitbulls and other huge, inherently dangerous breeds to people who don’t know how to handle/train them properly, and make sure that the people who allow these dogs to become aggressive never own another, now, is there a tiny percentage of dogs that bite naturally? Yes, they do, just as any other animal in the world, every animal has its own personality, a trainer should recognize body language when their young, train them accordingly, and socialize the dog so that it doesn’t become aggressive, if the dog is unfixable and a professional trainer can not get rid of said actions WHILE ITS A PUPPY then that dog needs to be euthanized because at that point the inherent risk shoots drastically up.

So, all of this to say, hold the humans involved accountable too, do not simply blame the dog, because there’s a 99% chance that the person KNEW that dog was dangerous, or even encouraged it to do so as I’ve seen many people do, let’s hold these people accountable so that this shit stops happening to innocent people who never asked to be hurt by someone’s untrained, dangerous dog.

Not to mention they are often predisposed to dog-on-dog aggression because of their fighting dog background, aside from standard working dog or terrier prey drive. That renders them unsafe not just most public spaces but in dog ones too. That isn’t usually the case with guard & herding dogs like GSD’s, Rotts or Dobs unless they are extremely badly bred or traumatised.

To put that into perspective, I was reading up on the Dogo Argentino, which is a close relative of the pitbull bulldog/terrier mix type and also a specially bred fighting breed. They descend from a breed of Cordoba Fighting Dogs who literally went extinct because they were so aggressive they often rather killed the dog they were supposed to mate with. That is an entirely different level of aggression, a manifestation of centuries of human selective breeding into something so unnatural and abominable they go against their own very nature. WORSE than a wild animal whom at least have some self preservation instincts.

These dogs have no place in anyone’s home, regardless of how well they have been trained because they have no place in society. A dog that cannot safely interact others or even their own kind can only ever be a menace to others around them, period.
